Lovely vlog - beautiful countryside, awesome sky scapes, thunder, reflections in the water….wonderful! Thank you for taking us on your adventure. Hope you have a fab weekend 😊
Tunnels all the history and all the many generations that gone through the tunnels look at the lovely trees the brown water may be mud . All the green around you is lovely wildlife you got it all out there better then watching TV. Lovely video.
I love a good thunder storm ⛈️ especially from inside a boat 😊 that tunnel was rather moist 😅 beautiful moorings at bridge 21 😂 great camera work as always Julie ❤xx
Remembering a week long nb holiday from 1976 - we hired at Braunston and turned left at Norton Junction. An early experience was strong wind from the left blowing us into the righthand reed beds.
Aww how lovely, a nice holiday memory. Yes, the wind can be troublesome for sure! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment too xx
When you have to work in Railway Tunnels, particularly Red Hill Tunnel and the Tunnel of ‘two halves’ Corby Tunnel.. you will be glad to go through any Canal Tunnel, wet or dry …
Nicely done Julie! I really look forward to seeing your journey each week. I think you're getting good enough to graduate to a little more sophisticated camera and sound. Just a landlubbers opinion. Pleasant sailing!
Hated that tunnel. We had a boat come towards us and it definitely didn’t feel like it was big enough for 2. Loved the Crick area though. The landscapes were beautiful. See you soon guys ❤
Great video and I'm with Martin, not a fan of tunnels..so claustrophobic. One question, how do you know from that far away entering the tunnel that the light on the other end isn't the light of a boat? Can't wait till next week! Safe travels!🥰
Haha, I suppose we don’t, but generally, a boat light has a different shape. You can pass a boat in this tunnel, it’s two way, although Martin doesn’t like to lol Thanks! xx
I am always just amazed by the sheer quantity, variety, and volume of the birdsong along the canals. I'm an amateur Birder, so I always sit here wondering just what birds I'm hearing. There's only one I can identify by its song/call, and that's the Chiff Chaff. I would love to learn many more. Oh, I have a random question for you two! When I was in my 20s, I helped crew my dad's cabin cruiser down in Florida, and our ropes were always called "lines." Bow line, stern line, spring lines, etc. Why are they only called "ropes" on the canals? It just seems a bit odd to me.
Thank you Chris! Yes, sometimes the birdsong is so loud, it’s lovely! 🥰 I try to let you hear the birds if I can 😃 The one that was in the tree when the thunder was rumbling was a blackbird. If I can, I’ll try to name the birds as they are singing. There’s one bird in particular that sounds like R2D2 from Star Wars lol 😂 You’re right, the ropes on boats are called lines, but I think everyone has got lazy and just calls them ropes, we shall try to use the correct terminology lol, we used to, then everyone referred to them as ropes and we sort of went with the flow (pardon the pun😂) thanks again! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB Oh, I would love it if you named any of the birds we’re hearing! That’s the perfect way to learn them, and I can’t wait to hear the R2D2 bird! 😁 The ropes vs lines thing made me laugh; even Narrowboaters can’t escape peer pressure! 😂 Have a great week!
The horses would have walked over the top of the tunnels and the men on the boats would have ‘legged’ the boats though the tunnel. They would lay on planks and walk their feet along the inside of the tunnel. Look up ‘legging a narrowboat through tunnels’ on Google, hopefully it should come up. It’s hard to explain without showing you an image. Thanks Randy! xx
Hi John, yes, occasionally you do see bats in the tunnels, but it’s impossible to get them on film! We could, and have cruised in thunderstorms, but both Martin and myself love them, so would rather be moored up and listen to the thunder lol. Thanks John! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB blessed be thy name. I would likely be scared to my wits end. But when you consider it, I guess it's no different than being on a large cruise ship during a storm. Thanks!
Hi Mark, was good to meet you at Crick too. I won’t be doing the map thing again, it seemed like a good idea, but is too distracting it seems. Yes, we often use what 3 words in the notes section when ordering, it’s really helpful, thanks Mark! xx

Julie, were my eyes deceiving me, or was there no tow path through that tunnel? How would that have worked in the yesteryears?

@JulieandMartinonRIB oh my goodness, I just watched a RUclips video. That's incredible. I couldn't imagine doing that upstream, though. Thanks!
Do you get bats in the tunnels. Or are they just to wet wet wet as you said. We that thunder must be a stopper for you each time it comes .

Is there ever any concern for being on the water in a steel hull boat during a lightning storm? 😢
Hi Randy, no we’re quite safe, a narrowboat is very much like a faraday cage, so we’re all good. We love a good thunderstorm! xx
