Okay, this looks like a feel good movie with some serious humor, some heartbreak, an odd friendship that turns out to be good for both men and a bit of love. And Bruce Dern being given full reign to do whatever the hell he wants!!! I love that!!! All taking place in my home state, my birth place, Texas. You know what? All of a sudden, I feel really excited about seeing this movie!!!
I dont like the clichees used like small towns dont have wi-fi ? Guys people around the world in the most poor places have internet so they should stop with this crap.
This is a sort of a play on Doc Hollywood. Thomas Hayden Church, a transplanted Texan when he was young, actually worked in the oil fields of Texas and Louisiana for a time. Brad Leland a true Texan from Friday Night Lights. Bruce Dern, at one time was the most hated man in the world when his character killed John Wayne in The Cowboys, and he is Hollywood Royalty. Carrie-Anne Moss is a very talented actress, she and Jennifer Connelly remind me of each other.
Doubtful that a Harvard-educated 'land man' will be able to find a productive drill site just by looking at a map. But an old oil man (like Bruce Dern's or even Thomas Hayden Church's character) would look at the land and have a good idea where to drill. That's pretty much how the independent drillers did it when I was wildcatting back in the late 70s. Looks good.
I thought the Harvard component was about how to game the leasing in some way . . . He needed an angle to get in on a place where he thought there was oil, or he needed a way to pipe it out.
Wow, Carrie-Anne Moss of Matrix! I'm a fan of Thomas Haden Church since Sideways (2004) and Bruce Dern ... makes me think of Jim Carrey! =) Didn't even know he (Bruce) was still alive ...
Very true, life cant be bought or paid for, oh it can be, but then who are YOU! Being part of life and the others out there truly mold you into a real life human being.
I still remember him as the dim-witted aircraft mechanic (like there is such a thing) in "Wings". Looks like he found a role that fits him to a T, at long last.
Tom Hayden is a Laredo, Texas native. Id be willing to bet he speaks Mexican Spanish pretty well, too. Everybody there did when I lived there decades ago, even the one Chinese family that owned the only Chinese restaurant in town. No English, but they spoke Mandarin and Spanish. Haha.
Glad to see Thomas Haden Church acting again
The rumor is he has made more money from being a voice actor all over the world than from all his acting on television and movies.
He was just in a series called Divorce or something like that.
love him, totally agree, always great to see him on screen again
& Bruce Dern!!!
Looks like a wholesome movie. Finally.
Ha. That's exactly what I was going to post.
Dear God, I hope so. I hope it doesn't make yankees or Texans look bad, just two different cultures meeting and working together for a good purpose.
Good
Thomas Haden Church giving off that Robert Duvall vibe, nice! And Bruce Dern, still chugging along, another treat.

So, I'm not the only one who was reminded of "Doc Hollywood".

Ditto. Movie was fantastic and this looks good too
yea man. Watched PBF for the second time last night - LOVED it.
I liked it the first time I saw it when it was called "Doc Hollywood" (1991)
Also, "The Party", Peter Sellers spoiling the movie with his wrist-watch.
yup + a little rebranding on big oil to make it look folksy and just part of the community
Don't nobody like you
I'll watch anything Thomas Haden Church is in. He's so relatable.
