Konami's 1986 release Tokushu Butai (Special Forces) Jackal is essentially I Can't Believe It's NOT Ikari/TANK except with standard controls instead of a loop level setup. As regional differences go, the JP version has the player's jeep shooting in the direction it's facing instead of upwards in the EU/US releases. The US Top Gunner also replaced the flags for the player's jeeps and enemy camps and vehicles. It's best known for its home ports on FCDS/NES, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64 (two different versions) and MS-DOS (1988-1989),followed by emulated reissues on Krome's Game Room and Hamster's Arcade Archives (2010-2024). Both the JP and overseas versions were included, but not the US Top Gunner variant (the blatant flag swaps). During the interim, the NES Jackal was present in Konami Collector's Series: Castlevania & Contra (November 16, 2002 in US, September 25, 2020 worldwide on GOG Dot Com), but it's normally inaccessible in the program. It's a direct emulation aside from the updated copyright notice without the Nintendo references. Enjoy Jeep Caravan Action!

    They bring hell.
"JACKAL" is an action game released by KONAMI in 1986.
"Jackal" is a special force that can survive under any conditions.
Control them and drive your armored vehicle into the heart of enemy territory to rescue prisoners.
The "Arcade Archives" series has faithfully reproduced many classic Arcade masterpieces.
Players can change various game settings such as game difficulty, and also reproduce the atmosphere of arcade display settings at that time. Players can also compete against each other from all over the world with their high scores.
Please enjoy the masterpiece that built a generation for video games.
*The options menu and manual are available in Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

With Independence Day (more commonly known by many people as 4th of July) just around the corner, Hamster decided that now would be a good time to bring more arcade classics home to modern consoles, and this week's Arcade Archives release is Nichibutsu's 1986 arcade shooter game, Ninja Emaki (also known in Japan as Yōma Ninpō Chō). You take control of a young hero named Shinbei, who is on a mission to battle a demon army to rescue a kidnapped princess.
The game features a mixture of vertically-scrolling shoot 'em-up-esque stages and run and gun-style levels and occasionally sees players collecting various scrolls to gain access to 8 additional forms of Ninja Magic. This allows players to improve their defense, unlock more powerful weapons, or gain additional ninja allies to act as assist characters.
As far as I'm aware, it was never ported outside of the arcades, so this marks the first official release of the game on a home console. You can watch a trailer below: ruclips.net/video/B2TOt7_iT_E/видео.html
Now, being a Japanese-only release, will it get a worldwide release on digital storefronts, or will it stay exclusive to Japan? Stay tuned to find tomorrow on Arcade Archives.

Anyone know why this has been unavailable in UK since yesterday? Thanks for the video.

No clue, but when that happens it is usually a copyright issue with the game's title.

@@ShiryuGL Yep. That has definitely happened in the past. Metro Cross was one, I believe. Weird that there is a store listing, you just can't buy it. I don't think its happened that way before.

@@Corleth oh, that is a first. If you can see the sore listing and can't buy it, that might be some sort of bug.

@@ShiryuGL I don't Twitter, if I did would message Hamster or something. In my enquires about this, I've had someone else in the UK confirm they see the same as me. Whilst someone in Portugal said they could get it fine. So not a Europe wide thing. PS Store seems to be having a lot trouble at the moment. Stars is still down for example

Quite possibly never, we are still unsure what trademark this is infringing.

@@matthewsmith1999 I still prefer the NES / Famicom version. Konami just put out gold on the system every time.
