    One thing I always find interesting about the Trilogy is that Hiccup is a person with a physical disability. This is something that is rarely discussed in children's films and also shows that the world is not without consequences.

    Edit: just to be clear this is a very well made video and I enjoyed watching it I am not trying to be hateful or rude I just was bored and typed out a little rant I did not think anyone would notice or even bother reading. I respect everyone who enjoyed the hidden world the animation was great the soundtrack was great and the general cinematography was enjoyable I only really have issues with the plot.
    As much as I love the first two I have to disagree only because of the hidden world. They changed toothless from a sleek nimble and intelligent cat-like dragon to a dumb reptilian dog. They made his relationship with Hiccup into a dog and his master instead of best friends. They tried to paint their friendship as if it was toxic. They also took away from the message of the first two films. Instead of being a story about facing adversity and fighting for change it became a story of if things get too hard just quit. It doesn't matter if you are the closest you have ever been and will most likely ever just quit because the fight to equality is just too hard. They know that the dragons will one day be found but they just ignore that. They were so close to finally getting a world where humans and dragons could live together but they instead chose to just give up because maturity is abandoning your best friend for a girl you met a week ago.
    They are basically like each other's caregivers, both are disabled in some way and both help each other overcome their disability. Then they try to paint this as a toxic relationship of two people slowly growing too dependent on each other to try to justify the cliche of having to let go of your animal companion. Like in the movie cheetah, free willy, spirit, fox and the hound, pete's dragon, The Royal Tenenbaums, flipper, honey i shrunk the kids , ect
    I also think the light fury had an incredibly shallow personality. She got so little screen time she was just an alluring feminine night fury. She had smaller teeth and claws with less face frills which tell age according to Valka so she must be rather young. I don't personally mind her being a glittery marshmallow. I like the aesthetic but they did not have to make her so feminine. The art book literally said that their only goal was to make a feminine more mammalian night fury. The only excuse I have heard people say is that they are different spices which barely even true. They are a subspecies because they had constantly healthy and fertile offspring as was shown in the nine realms as thunder was shown to be toothless direct descendant.
    Not to mention the plot holes such as how do land based dragons get to the hidden world? Did they go around picking up each individual speed stinger? And what about the dragons that require very specific habitats? Do They just conveniently have every single plant and animal and biome already in the hidden world? And what about all the ecosystems they must have ruined by removing a whole order if not a class of animals. Even a toothless tail prosthetic can only move when his other tail fin moves which would greatly inhibit his movement in flight. You also can't just leave something touching your skin forever either. You can see that with real life prosthetics. It would most likely after the first week of independence cause rashes and without being able to take it off it would then become infected and slowly rot. You could say that is a plot hole with each movie but with hiccups there it could be possible that they are taking his prosthetic off and cleaning it off screen. There is just too much bs for it to be believable.
    The only reason they wanted to have that ending is because they felt the need to connect httyd movies into the httyd books even though they are completely different. In the books the dragons are seen more of disobedient beasts of burden which you must bend to your will to get them to corporate. But in the movies they are less stubborn and more of companions and it is seen as highly frowned upon to try to control against their will.
    I wanted to like the hidden world I even did at first but something felt off and the more I thought about it the more it made zero scenes. It was poorly executed and had a terrible message and was totally thematically inconsistent with the first two. I respect everyone's else's opinion but in mine it was just an overrated cash grab.

      And you missed the point entirely.
      Toothless and Hiccup leaving is essentially two friends starting their own families and seeing each other in the holidays.
      No friends stay and live in the same house forever, stop being a clingy bastard with attachment issues.
      Because forbid our dearest friends seek love and fulfillment in their lives.
      And mentioning nine realms?! Really? Are you an actual HTTYD fan at all? Haha.
      Welcome to the real world. Utopias are not and will never be a thing whatsoever.
      Hiccup is not a prophecy figure meant to solve all problems of the world just because you want UWU dragons to stay.
      If anything, forcing them to stay is what damages the ecosystem for both dragons and humans. YOU CANNOT FORCE DRAGONS TO STAY IN ONE ISLAND JUST BECAUSE ITS A "UTOPIA".

    I really don't understand why people say that the third movie doesn't follow the themes of the other two like... It fucking does? In the first movie Hiccup goes through a journey of self discovery, in the second movie he starts to mature and embraces his responsibilities, in the third movie is him realizing that, sometimes, you need to let go of one of the things important to you cuz nothing is eternal, you need to know when to let go of something and understand that the thing/person that helped you find your way and yourself can't always be there for you, you need to know how to live on your own without relaying on that exclusively

    • @blobby883
      @blobby883 9 месяцев назад +2

      because how to dragon has more than one theme.
      one of its main themes is overcoming prejudice and fighting to change society. hiccup even ends the 2nd movie with a speech about how berk is 'the voice of peace' and that bit by bit they can change the world. these themes were completely disregarded and trampled on in the third movie when they decided 'humans don't deserve dragons' and 'there will always be people who want to harm dragons'. they essentially decided to give up and segregate (how people are meant to understand dragons when none of them are around is a mystery to me)
      another one of its themes, arguably the most prominent, is friendship. in the first movie they forge their friendship, in the second its tested, and in the third they grow apart and let go. now while in theory that works, the execution was terrible. because the movie was set only a year after the previous one, they didn't grow apart organically. to make a rift between them, the film completely diminishes their relationship, dumbing down their dynamic to owner and pet, as well as having toothless seemingly ready to leave hiccup for a girl he just met without a second thought. the movie, intentionally or not, takes the stance of romance being more important than friendship which cheapens the relationship between hiccup and toothless
      for someone like me, where the themes i discussed are what made me connect so deeply to the first 2 movies, the last movie is painful to watch and almost feels like a betrayal. if however the themes discussed in this video were what made you love the franchise so much, then i completely understand why you would still love the movie

      @@blobby883 to me that was a sign of growth, they were naive to think that they could live in peace with the dragons and protect them, letting them go was accepting that there are battles that you can't win because the problems like thses can't be solved in like -10 years or something, so letting the dragons go to a place where they would be safe was mostly their best option to protect them and the human race, as long as there were dragons there would be always people taking advantage of them.
      Toothless did not leave because of the Light Fury, he left because he is the leader and he wanted to do the best for his race, if you were in his place, would you:
      A) Leave your best friend behind because you need to protect your kind as you're the example they're supposed to follow;
      B) Stay with your friend and risk to put your kind in danger like they were before
      I think Toothless made the right choice, of course, friendships are important but taking care of your responsibilities should always come first.

      @@ninalove_9 that was not a sign of growth,, it was regression. during the civil rights movement was it naive of people to think racism could end? racism still exists so should we just give up and segregate? should we just give up on equality? i obviously don't think that the dragons could have been completely accepted within 10 years, or even within hiccups lifetime. but just because you won't live to see the fruits of your labour, doesn't mean you should give up. berk had already made leaps and bounds of progress. berkians aren't some sort of uniquely accepting hyper progressive people. if berkians can come to accept dragons, any community can when given time. the how to train your dragon movies constantly show that humans and dragons are better TOGETHER. and although the movie claims dragons will come back when the time is right and they will be accepted, that's completely illogical. people very rarely accept things they don't understand. by sending the dragons to the hidden world, hiccup not only gave up on future progress but also lost all progress that had already been made
      and i honestly can't take the idea that it was too dangerous seriously. we saw 6 people stop an entire armada, and right after that they're going to say it's too dangerous and they can't protect them? if there was actually any consequences to the battle in THW i might be more convinced, but from what i saw they seem to be doing an excellent job protecting the dragons
      and also in terms of toothless:
      i'm not talking about when he leaves in the end, but rather towards the middle. after he flies off people start thinking that hiccup is wrong for thinking toothless would come back now that he can fly on his own and its really strange. i could have overlooked that, but when hiccup goes to the hidden world i got the very strong impression that toothless wasn't going to come back if hiccup didn't go looking for him. if that wasn't the intention then it was poorly directed

      @@blobby883 I feel like that's a really terrible comparison, people are the same, no matter the color, race, sexuality, gender, whatever, they're essentially the same, but then you look at dragons and people and like, those guys are literally flying fire-breathing lizards and their intelligence isn't as developed as human's, toothless was mostly and exception to this, maybe because he is a night fury and they're known for being quite intelligent, so if you know how to control them, their weakness and all, you can easily take advantage of that and use the guys as very dangerous weapons, which can easily annihilate anything in their path if the right mind is controlling them. Our society has proven time and time again that strength + intelligence isn't a good combo. Of course the conflicts wouldn't end even if the dragons were gone, but at least if there were conflicts they wouldn't be using and exploiting these creatures of massive destruction for their own gain, it's a lose-lose situation. Separating humans from dragons at least until society has become less greedier is really the best option they had here for both species. Imagine idk, if people were allowed to own dragons irl, there would definitely be people exploiting the creatures to get revenge or something they really want for the sake of themselves, this ain't about different races, this is about different species, if they can live in the wild, they should live in the wild, just like real wild animals.
      I can understand Toothless decision there, till that point he had always felt like he was the only one and there wasn't any hope of him finding at least someone like him that he could call family, then, against all odds, he actually found someone, there was no way he could let the opportunity slide, and then again, Toothless is still a wild animal, he still feels the need to reproduce, that's just how nature is, he's following his instincts, that does not mean he forgot about Hiccup AT ALL, it just means that he can be an individual without Hiccup, they're not the same person, they should have separate and distinctive lives.

      @@ninalove_9 while it's not a perfect comparison, when you extrapolate the themes of the first two movies onto the real world, prejudice against spieces/people who are different (e.g racism), and striving to change that (e.g. the civil rights movement) is essentially what it's about. it's only because these themes were so present in the first 2 movies that i feel this is a valid comparison despite the obvious difference. obviously if we look at the plot in isolation and ignore the themes of the first 2 movies, the decision be seen as very understandable. but your original comment said you didn't understand why people think the third movie doesn't follow the themes. it's because these themes were set up that i can make these comparisons, which is why the complete disregard of this in order to have the third movie end the way it did hurts so much
      and honestly i don't think what toothless did was that understandable. hiccup is his closest friend and they've been through so much together. the fact it didn't seem like he was even planning to go back to say goodbye really rubs me the wrong way. i understand if that's not something that bothers you that much, but for a lot of people it did feel like a tarnish on their friendship. and because the growth of their friendship and their loyalty is one of the main themes, that's another reason why so many people feel httyd thw didn't follow through on some of the themes that well. (and also you have to understand that the people who get most invested about themes of friendship are also the group of people most likely to dislike the idea that romance > friendship, which is what this seems to push weather you feel it's accurate to the characters or not)

    I disagree. The first two movies are more than great, but HTTYD 3 desintegrates Toothless, Hiccup, and the whole franchise. Toothless was stripped of his personality in HTTYD 3, and his relationship with the Light Fury is just so forced. The rest of the gang is used as mere comic relief, barely doing anything. Also, Hiccup, who was supposed to be this average-looking, small, thin guy, is just a gigachad now for no reason. The entire movie looks plastic-like. But the worst thing is that it does a complete 180 on the message of the first two films: peace between man and dragon. "We are the voice of peace, and bit by bit, we will change this world" This is what the previous movie ended on. But in HTTTYD 3, the villain literally wins. The Night Furies go extinct, and dragons and humans are separated. Hiccup abandons all his ideals because of a man much less a threat than Drago did some bad things and said some tough shit. This wouldve only encouraged the real Hiccup more, but this version just gives up. And another message this movie betrays is the message of friendship. HTTYD shows Hiccup and Toothless bonding and Toothless almost sacrificing himself for Hiccup. HTTYD 2 shows Toothless overcoming literal mind control to save his friend. But according to HTTYD 3, romantic relationships are better than and preferable to friendships and Hiccup and Toothless go their separate ways to pursue their love interests, if you can even call the Light Fury that.
    If you wanna spread the message of having to let go, dont do it with a franchise whose main message was the power of friendship overcoming everything.

      @@memecliparchives2254 Comparing Hiccup and Toothless to Andy and Woody is insulting on a whole other level. To Andy, his toys were just mere inanimate objects and Woody wasnt his best friend in the whole world, his brother. These two things are beyond incomparable. Would you just leave your best friend to a little sibling?
      And considering how easy it was to convince Berk to make peace with dragons, it wouldnt be much forcing as just more convincing. When warring with flying fire-breathing reptiles, what Average Joe wouldnt say "Yeah, Id rather stop fighting them than watch my village burn down every 2 days".
      And Hiccup in the third film did force a vision on the world, namely that dragons and humans should never interact again. It was just much easier and in a way much more forceful than spreading peace.

    • @memecliparchives2254
      @memecliparchives2254 8 месяцев назад

      @@zack4915So which is it? Should Andy let go or not since Woody and his childhood toys are inanimate objects, so could he have just thrown them in the basement or just in the thrash?
      Lol, what? So youre saying dragons should end up being bargaining chips like nukes to force a vision of peace? Thats not peace whatsoever. People can just pretend to that and use dragons to their own personal benefit anyway.
      And no, Hiccup at the end finally accepts the reality that dragons are not uwu creatures that should be forced to live on the same confined island. If Berk suddenly hated dragons and wanted to kill them, thats breaking character.
      But there's no such thing, since all of Berk loves their dragons so much that it hurts them to let go and vice versa. But its a decision they have to do because it paints a target on their home in which it was almost destroyed twice by villains now.

    • @zack4915
      @zack4915 8 месяцев назад

      @@memecliparchives2254 Yeah, Andy should let go, because his toys are inanimate objects that have mere sentimental and nostalgic value to him, they arent best buddies.
      And no, dragons shouldnt and wouldnt be used as bargaining chips. Your vision of the relationship between Berkians and their dragons is skewed and so is your view of dragons themselves. Youre actually the one viewing them as "uwu creatures", incapable of their own decisions (which the third movie ignores, what with all dragons leaving their riders just like that). The relationship between Berkians and dragons is one of equals, as weve seen time and time again. And weve seen that enslaving dragons takes time, resources, skill, and commitment, and if the majority of society was friendly with dragons, such an enslaving operation wouldnt come to fruition.
      And if youd watched RTTE youd know that Berk wasnt the only place dragons lived as weve seen them across the archipelago. Where do you think them Speed Stingers would be kept on Berk? This is just another major flaw of the third film.
      Hiccup "letting go" of the dragons is breaking character. He was an optimist who had hope and saw a possibility for change in everyone, like his father, or like Drago. In the third film, he just gives up.
      Berk is just objectively stronger with dragons, and bonded dragons are stronger than enslaved ones. If we took Dragos armada minus the dragons vs Berk, he would absolutely have wiped the floor with the Berkians, and we know that his goal was conquest and not eliminating dragons.

    And unfortunately, the whole "Letting go" part was forced, unnatural and contradicted the ideas of first two films, which are bonding, following your ideals, changing the world for the better against all odds and coexistance in piece.
    Instead of that, the third movie is about unfixable warring human nature, giving up your ideals and necessary segregation (themes that are not so bad in themselves but work very poorly in the context of this universe and these characters).
    The same happens with the "letting go" theme - not only it's execution is unrealistic and illogical (can elaborate if needed, but it's less important anyway), but it also doesn't fit in the already established world and characters (which, among other things, leads to Toothless acting completely out of character in the third movie, and that's just scratching the surface).
    And on top of that, i'd personally say that spreading such messages (like giving up and others) is a very bad and even dangerous idea (although this could have happened by accident due to the desire to force such an ending).
    I wish that I could say something like - "hey, at least it was a proper conclusion of the story, and nobody will be able to make the Star Wars sequels of HTTYD". But now you have The Nine Realms, which is kind of a disaster. So they failed even there :(
