Mr. Lad, I think its very commendable that you impart Hokkien (Penang Hokkien) & Bahasa Malaysia to Naomi and Ailsa not forgetting the little one. Im fr KL, due to visit PG again in early Sept with Aussie friends. Its so delightful to hear Pg Hokkien spoken. For me if the food vendor/hawker speaks Pg Hokkien then the food is 200% legit. If they speak Mandarin (no disrespect) , Cantonese (again no disrespect) for sure I give it a miss😂. Hope to meet you somewhere in Penang soon. Perhaps you could take me to a hidden gem for Pg Hawker food... Cheers !

My favorite yong tau hoo stall. Thought it opens only from Thursday till Sunday. 16:00 normally we used noh kap.to order...the poh piah now has a different aroma probably from the change in crab meat. I preferred Cecil St food court poh piah opposite the duck koay teow soup. Another stall at Padang Brown, tau kua chien is no longer in business. Very simple and yet so good.

Nice daddy buying popiah for Ah Kong. To encourage Naomi to speak BM and / or Mandarin just use it with her and the siblings. This habit will become automatically accustomed to in due course. Naomi appears to be a “ quai “ young girl.
Singapore’s bronze Olympic winner’s mother was reported to have said that she only spoke Mandarin to him ( though his dad speaks German) and he’s now effectively bilingual. Keep it up.

U normally speak to your children in English? Or also mandarin and hokkien at home? They don't learn bahasa in school? I pick up Cantonese by speaking with my dad. I do speak English with my mum though. Mandarin I pick up along the way by speaking to friends etc... can understand a little hokkien though. Can't speak much.. hahaha.

The kids speak English most of the time. My wife speaks Hokkien with me 80% of the time. So they can understand the language but just won't speak it with us. I hope they will use it more with outsiders!
