  • Feel like joining me for a cactus sale tour again? Hundreds and hundreds of fantastic cacti and other succulent plants were on offer last Sunday at a plant sale event hosted by the Erlangen-Bamberg local branch of the German Cactus Society (Deutsche Kakteen Gesellschaft e.V.). Another awesome event hosted BY amateur plant hobbyists and enthusiasts FOR plant hobbyists and enthusiasts! Come and see this incredible selection ranging from tiny seedlings to large and mature plants...often in cultivation with their sellers for many decades!
    Among others see lot's and lot's of wonderful plants from the following genera: Astrophytum, Ariocarpus, Coryphantha, Echinocactus, Echinopsis, Echinocereus, Ferocactus, Eriosyce, Mammillaria, Thelocactus, Parodia, Notocactus, Strombocactus, Trichocereus ...also many non-cacti succulent plants including Delosperma, Sempervivum, Agave, Aloe, etc.
    Despite the hot and sunny weather (...perfect cactus temperatures, reaching around 35 degrees C that afternoon, haha!), I decided to go for a visit - especially as the event was hosted at the visitor center of a local forest adventure trail, so under lot's of trees and shade, and a gentle breeze. And, wow, the visit was definitely truly worthwhile!
    Come and join me for another exciting and interesting tour!
    Part 2 of the video, with my plant haul at: • Cactus Sale PLANT HAUL...
    Cheers,
    Joe

Hahaha, I 100% agree with you, there simply HAS to be room for just one more...or better still, several more!!! I have recently been telling a few of my plants to just straighten up a bit and just shuffle down the shelves a bit further and closer together, as there will be (more...) new neighbours moving in soon, hahaha! I really hope they behave and listen for a change! Hope all is well your end, and sending you and Hans very best wishes and cactus greetings for a fantastic Friday evening and also wonderful weekend ahead! Thanks again, Plant Power and Happy Growing!!!

    A great video. A marvelous tour around the Cactus & Succulent sale held by the Erlangen-Bamberg branch of the German Cactus Society. I have felt a healthy envy when watching the event. A great selection and variety of plants and, in my opinion, one of the most important things is that you said "BY amateur plant hobbyists and enthusiasts FOR plant hobbyists and enthusiasts" Greetings from Sapin and enjoy the Sunday!

Haha, omg, the goodies I got, yep coming up in next video soon... I always seem to get carried away and also somehow there is always a mysterious shrink factor in play everytime I get home...while at these events I always seem to remember my greenhouse as being much larger and having so much more space than when I get home ...and reality hits, lol!! Wow Joe what an outstanding video! Thank you so much for taking us with you! That was a beautiful venue to have a show. All the cacti and succulents were awesome, but the show stopper was the breathtaking Echinopsis Hybrid flowers!!! I appreciate you translating the signs and your commentary is so educational and at times just hilarious. You took great footage especially with how many people were there. I really enjoyed the special tour and I wish you a great evening and a Wonderful weekend from Georgia, USA to Bavaria, Germany my friend. Thanks for the tour Joe!!! Some spectacular plants at that sale!!! Yeah, really love that Tephrocactus hidden back there!!! Lots of beautiful plants!!! Unfortunately we don't have anything like this near us. The closest cactus nursery is almost 2 hours away from us through the hill county of the Ozarks in Desoto Missouri. My wife said " never again " she's not interested in my love of cactus & succulents. Hers is peonies and the outside flowers!! Hahaha!! The closest cactus & succulents society would be in St.Louis, another 2 hour drive. I've not been to a show since I lived down the street from the Los Angeles County arboretum, 1984, right before I moved here! I know...sad...hang my head in shame!!😞 Hahaha!!! When I first moved here out to the country, the locals & my step fathers family thought, think I'm crazy!!! They said all the plants I brought with me would be dead in a year!!! They wouldn't survive. Wow I still have quite a few left!!! Almost 40 years later!!! My step father was most supportive and helped me build my present greenhouse. People here buy cactus as temporary plants that usually always die. So yeah, I'm kinda a loner out here in the Ozarks country of Pulaski country. Really wish we did have stuff like this!!! It would be great!!! thanks for sharing Joe!!! Very awesome!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, out to Bavaria, Germany 🇩🇪 have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🌿🌻🍀🌹🌴🌱🌸🪴🌾🌷🌳💐😃👍

Always so inspiring! Haha, also quite funny to read about your wife and her preference for peonies and outside flowers, that is exactly the same with me and my wife...she much prefers her outside plants and flowers, roses, also many hibiscus and equally peonies...not much time for those gnarly, prickly 'cactuses', hahaha! Hope you are having a fantastic Friday and sending you all very best flower greetings (cactus & others, haha) for a wonderful weekend ahead at Morris Park in the Ozarks my friend, happy growing!!

It was particularly busy on this occasion as the event was also open of course to anyone from the public who wanted to join, so there were adverts in the local papers, etc. That attracted a lot of interested folks who wanted to see, hear, buy more of these plants! They wanted to get more people who like growing a few cacti to join the local branches and groups! Makes it a lot more fun to have new people join, especially younger people new to the hobby! Hi there! Many thanks indeed for all your fantastic feedback, I'm very happy that you are enjoying the videos, much appreciated! Really sorry to read that there is nothing comparable around you - would it be an opportunity perhaps to get a few cactus friends together and just start a new cactus & succulent group of like-minded people? Many groups here meet very informally too. And what has been important here, is to always also invite people from the public to join these events, in order to slowly grow the community of interested cactus hobbyists. Anyway, just an idea, but I appreciate it is probably much easier said than done. Thanks for another great video and for taking us along on this joyful tour 👍🏻
    By the way: At the moment I have an internship at one of my local "vegetable farmers" (it's called "Gärtnerei Fuldaaue"; they are a rather small business and do most of the work still "by hand" and not with "big machines", it's definitely a great experience to work there for some weeks) and now it was the perfect "timing" for a new upload to have a relaxed "Feierabend" by watching your tour 😎 I think a day couldn't be any better than doing gardening-work during daytime and then having a great evening seeing this wonderful show.
    Now to the meeting itself: There were definitely many absolutely stunning specimens, I think one doesn't even really know where to look first when there are dozens of amazing plants. And the prices seem "unbeatable" again I would say, haha 😅
    Furthermore, I very much liked the "written commentary" in this video, was a great way to lead us through the adventure.
    Oh, and you seem to have much great "Cacti-Merch", indeed amazing T-Shirt (as others already mentioned too😉).
    I can't wait to see what you have got from the sale, see you then! :)

      Hallo Jacob! Thanks so much, as always I really, really enjoyed readi ng all your comments and feedback! And of course wonderful to hear that you once again enoyed the tour, thanks for joining! Yeah you are right, there were so many fantastic plants that I found it rather difficult to stay focussed, and where to look first, as you say! Super also to read that the video was perfectly timed for a bit of Feierabend relaxation on your end! Wow, sounds like you are having a great time working at that local nursery and traditional-style vegetable producer. It definitely reminds me of my pre-student days when I did the same, and I enjoyed it so much, also one learns so much - and it all helps with growing one's own plants at home! Thanks, glad you liked the lates cactus t-shirt too, I got it as a present from my daughter - in case you are interested, she said she got it on Etsy, a cool little shop called OhioOutfit. Have a wonderful weekend ahead, stay safe and especially, stay cool! (...omg, just saw that looks like tomorrow is predicted to have temps going up to 38 C, yikes!). Kakteengrüße nach Kassel!

      And I always enjoy reading your answers to my comments! 👍🏻😉
      Right now I have the urge to write to you once again about the hailstorm: The plants on my balcony (apart from the ones that I immediately had put in the waste bin) luckily "collected new power" during the last 3 weeks so that most of them now look very good again.
      BUT today I read on the website of the "Kakteenfreunde Friedrich Ritter Kassel e.V." that their greenhouse in the botanical garden got completely devastated too, there were two pictures on the homepage, and you can see that it's indeed a huge mess (the glass is completely destroyed, I hope that not too many plants got hurt😞). According to them, their collection is now going to be closed until Summer 2024, when they will get a new-build...
      In spite of this sad message, I nontheless wish you a great weekend! :)

    • @cactusjoe
      @cactusjoe  Год назад

      @@jacobsiebert2204 wow, that is EXCELLENT news to read about your plants on the balcony, Jacob, having regained new strength and looking much better again now after that terrible hailstorm in Kassel! But, also truly TERRIBLE news about the greenhouse, my goodness, that is indeed sooo sad to read!!! The only "good" aspect, I suppose is that this happened during the warm summer period, and not with freezing temperatures outside in the winter! Otherwise that would have been the almost guaranteed death of most of the plants! I hope that they are able to rebuild the greenhouse very quickly again before the coming winter! Thanks for letting me know about this news. Hope you are staying cool! We had 38C in the shade in the garden here about an hour ago...and I stopped looking at the thermometer in my greenhouse, haha! Enjoy your Saturday evening and Sunday ahead! Kakteengrüße nach Kassel!

    • @jacobsiebert2204
      @jacobsiebert2204 Год назад

      Yes, that is indeed excellent that my plants got relief and look healthier now again. I think it also shows that many plants are more durable than one might think. For example my Zauberglöckchen had just a few branches left after the hailstorm but now they are full of blooms again, just wonderful 🤩 And also my strawberry plant (luckily😉) started to grow many new leafs.
      To the greenhouse: You're absolutely right, if these hailstones would have come down in the winter months, surely most of the plants wouldn't have made it. The "good" thing is that - in spite of the hailstorm - they already planned to build a new, bigger greenhouse for a few years and only couldn't realize it already because of the costs (I think the one that got destroyed was from the 70'ies, so already very old and nevertheless necessary to renew it) but I hope that they manage to rescue the plants before the winter so that they won't get struck by frost.
      What is problematic is that at the moment they can't access the plants because everything is still full of broken glass 😬 I hope they find a solution for that.
      Regarding the weather: Here in Kassel it wasn't SO hot, I think maximum was about 30° Celsius, but it's quite humid so it feels a bit like being in the rainforest, haha 😅 We also had a bit of rain a hour ago 🌧
      Sending you happy-growing-wishes to Bavaria! 🌵😎
