MJ was like that teacher you hated because they always made everything hard and gave the most test, didn’t cut anyone a break but when you are older and look back, you realize that that was the best teacher you ever had because you knew you really learned something and you couldn’t just slide by. You had to give it your all and study in order to pass.

In my opinion, this is the greatest sports documentary ever made. I was thoroughly engrossed in this during quarantine when ESPN aired in it 2020 for 5 straight weeks. Having lived through this in my early adulthood and revisiting it as an adult was so impactful, really helps you appreciate who and why MJ was the way he was. As I've said before, I'm a Knick fan but there were teams I hated much more than the Bulls despite Mike, Phil, Scottie & crew stopping my team's from its first championship since 1973. The Pearl Jam outro, "Present Tense" is so perfectly chosen when you know Eddie Vedder is from Illinois or that Pearl Jam was on the radio the day Dennis Rodman almost took his life in that Detroit parking lot. That song and "Massive Attack" cover by Jose Gonzalez have been on my playlist for the last 3 years because of this documentary. It's so deep motivating, reflective like this doc was. Again, I highly appreciate this content and you guys trying to learn about our sports, our culture, it's flattering in a way as an American that someone across the pond likes the same stuff I do. Keep it up. For some more recommendations, I think most 30 for 30s are great, there are 2 pretty good "American Gladiators" documentaries, I do prefer the Netflix one over the ESPN one, and for NFL stuff I think you have to watch the John Madden "All Madden" documentary that FOX Sports put together before his passing, that also made me cry as a lover of his broadcasting and the video games that bear his name, it was so beautiful for an icon like that to receive his flowers.
Also for NFL: Peyton's Places on ESPN+ and OJ: Made in America (5 part series) that explains the rise and downfall of the greatest running back of the 1970s, Orenthal James Simpson.

Yeah, the OJ series is another good one. If you didn't grow up when OJ was in his prime, it is difficult to understand how famous he was. He was known for being a really friendly guy who did commercials and worked for NBC as an NFL commentator.

In Jordan’s last game (as a bull) he had 45 of their 87 points.
The second most was kukoc with 15 points. Shows how he literally CARRIED with their scoring.
Rodman played his part on boards and defense as he always does

The reason teams get rid of their good players is to get high picks in the draft to select the most talented prospects (ex. Bulls selected Derrick Rose #1 Overall in 2008) Also, fun fact Michael Jordan left retirement and played two seasons for the Washington Wizards in 2001-2003

To be fair, there were only 10 teams in the league during the Celtics run (before NBA and ABA merger) and little free agency. There were 29 teams in the NBA in the 90s.

In basketball, football, and hockey you want to completely dismantle you teams to rebuild because you want high draft picks. Most partial rebuilds don't work in these sports and will most likely end up in your team being in what we call purgatory. Meaning they are perpetually a middling team that are a little too good to completely suck and bottom out, and too bad to truly compete. This can go on for years and by the time someone finally decides to blow it up, the value of your players has gone down. So, what you can get in return for trading them is much lower. This is what the current Bulls are going through. They are in purgatory and we've been saying for years they need to tear the team down and completely rebuild.

Barely mentioned or seen here, but a good player, under-rated, with his own unique story. Worth watching.

Flagrant penalty 1 is 2 free throws and ball from the side (if it was flagrant from Rodman then ball from the side for Utah obviously). The free throws can be shot by anybody... the coach decides.
Penalty 2 is an automatic ejection, though I'm not positive there was such thing as penalty 2 at the time.

It's STILL baffling this team was split up and didn't get to defend its championship in a shortened 50 game NBA season the following year in 1999, which ended up as NY Knicks, an 8th seed vs Spurs with San Antonio winning in 5 for its first title.

The perception at the time that the Bulls were broken up was that Jerry Krause was eager to prove he could build a championship team without Michael Jordan. He was responsible for bringing in every player on their championship teams except for the most important player. The Bulls were one of the worst teams in the league for the next several years and didn't start to become competitive until after Krause left.

But there has never been a hard playing team like the Bulls. Their defense was as good as their offense. I’m 70 years old and live south of Chicago a few miles. We all watched every game and would go to Milwaukee, Detroit , and Indianapolis to watch the Bulls play these respective teams. They packed the stadiums everywhere they went. The only player close to Jordan is Kobe Bryant who patterned his game after MJ. Kobe grew up in Italy and watched European basketball and he said it taught him not to feel privileged.
