God also wouldn’t be God if He made a mistake, because God by definition is the greatest possible being; and the greatest possible being can’t make mistakes, that would make Him less than. Therefore the God that can make mistakes, the God that progressive Christians believe in: is not God. He’s a figment of their imagination, ultimately an idol.

I believe you can come to faith without acknowledging a physical copy of scripture as being The Word Of God. Think back to medieval times. You had all that ornate stained glass of Bible stories and paintings of Biblical events. Most of people back then couldn't even read. People could become Christians through other means than coming to know the "Bible", but the faith should still line up with what the Bible states.
(not arguing, just stating my opinion) I believe the Bible IS the Word Of God, but I think you can get the gospel without being in the Bible, even if being in the Bible / scriptures is exceedingly helpful.

@@XSquibX Absolutely sister. Once we start to cherry pick one rule, there is no reason whatsoever, that we should follow any of them. I always like to ask someone who is making a moral claim that is either not Biblical, or they themselves are not Christian: "What authority are you appealing to when you make that claim". If they say "me" or "society", then that may as well mean nothing. If they say "God" or "the Bible", then that can be tested.

@@marissajones1840 I guess not believing in the Bible is like being married, but not believing in the marriage vows. Dangerous. Also, I would agree that they are not Christian if they reject the Bible. Jesus certainly didn't reject scripture. He fulfilled it. If someone rejects the Bible, they reject the One who inspired it. They may think that they are following Jesus, but they have crafted for themselves a false Christ. In Greek, we call that an "anti Christos" - a "false Christ".

But, I've been around the block for a while with the more conservative and liberal of Christians and we ALL commit this error. Salvation is lifelong and we must look in the mirror for our hypocrisies, be open to being wrong, welcome correction. Sometimes the very person you are criticizing ( the Progressive here ) might very well be on to something of the Spirit. Any Conservative that doesn't leave their ears open might quench the Spirit's instruction.

Sure, i do also take the bible as authoritative, but it doesn't mean that i don't pay attention to the different ways of reading text, especially when dealing anient texts like the Bible.
The words might suggest one thing to us in the 21st century but have meant something very different to the people who wrote them a long ago.
To say what a biblical text teaches us today, you first have to understand the text in its original situation and then apply the meaning to the present situation.
To be very clear with you, everything that is written in the bible has validity, I am aware that the Word of God is perfect and that nobody denies it.
The literal reading claims to take the text simply for what it says. This is the approach of Biblical Fundamentalism. It claims not to be interpreting the text but merely to be reading as it stands.
Clearly, however, even fundamentalistm follows a rule of interpretation, a simple and easy rule. The rule is that a text means whatever it means to somebody reading it today.
Now, compare the other approach, the historical-critical thinking.
Now the approach here is called "historical" because it requires you to place the text in its original historical and cultural context before deciding what it means.
This approach is called "critical" because it requires careful reflection and detailed analysis of the Bible.
The word critical is NOT used here in the more familiar sense "trying to find fault with something" but in the sense of the current phrase, critical thinking.
An example, one day you are in a course with a teacher and he teaches you a class on such a topic, and later, you go to the library to find out more about the subject. You go to the library NOT because you are questioning the teacher, but rather because you want to enrich yourself with more information or get out of your comfort zone.
Why do you think that the bible was used to justify slavery, inquisition, subyugation of women, flat-earth arguments?
I hope my argument did help you!

    • @orangeblossom9279
      @orangeblossom9279 3 года назад +6

@@dostoyevski9423 well that’s definitely why context exists. My study Bible helps with that. Also why I like the Bible is that it’s not a utopian fiction. Non believers hate it because it’s not a utopian fiction and is probably the most offensive text in the history of mankind even simply because of what Jesus says about being the “Truth”. People take good and twist it for evil. Also back then slavery was used by everyone, as my East African ancestors were also enslaved by the Arabs which had the biggest slave trade in history. Contrary to popular belief that only white people “committed atrocities”. Some people in history were called “slaves” and were paid = employees today basically. People took something nutral and forgot about historical context and the complexities of life to justify their harmful and stupid actions just like when I was a lukewarm I avoided Bible passages and knowledge about why lust is bad to get away with my P0rN addiction. Other then that non believers demonize Christians today and call us oppressors just because of someone’s twisted interpretation. It weird being black with close African decent and Christian 😂 because slavery is always used as an anti Christianity argument

The gospel should not be something we learn in 10 minutes then go on to the next lesson, but something that we look at daily and learn from. No one is good enough to be saved, therefore no one is good enough to stay saved. Repentance is a change that takes place with what you believe. The thief on the cross is a great example. We are fallen, deserving punishment, but Christ is good and holy. However, even though Christ was innocent, He received the wrath we all deserve. If we believe He took our place in punishment, we shall be saved. This belief changes how we think and what we do. There is nothing we can do to be saved, and there is nothing we can do to stay saved. Therefore there is nothing to be proud about or boast because salvation is a gift, not an earning. Salvation is fully on the work that was done through Jesus as the Passover lamb. On judgement day, God no longer sees our iniquity, but sees the righteousness of Christ if His blood has cleansed us, causing God’s wrath to Passover us. If someone believes the good they do grants themselves forgiveness, they don’t believe what Jesus did is enough for their salvation. If righteousness came by the law, then Jesus died in vain.
This is pride, which is opposed by God. That is why Jesus is our only hope, cause there is no good thing in us, that is, in our sinful flesh. We deserve to die, but God has offered us life through the blood of the messiah.
Why has God offered us life? Because He loves us and doesn’t want us to die. Ye are saved by grace through faith, not of yourselves, it is the gift of God: not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Thank God Salvation is not done through works, we’d all go to hell.

Can I ask you a question? Why must we make the false dichotomy that one guy is totally right, and the other is totally wrong? Couldn't they both be a little bit right and a little bit wrong? We are imperfect human beings which is why we need grace. I don't think that any one human has a 100% perfect understanding of the nature of God. Claiming perfect understanding of anything...especially God...is what is arrogant. So in that sense, the progressive guy is right and is actually being humble about that. If we are really honest with ourselves, *no one* knows with complete certainty what God is, and what God wants for us. That is what FAITH is for. We can use the Bible as a tool for understanding truth, but we also have to use the faculty of reason that God has given us humans. But we can't make the Bible an idol. What the progressive guy is saying is that there IS a standard for morality, and that standard is Jesus' life and teachings. I think the conservative guy is right that we do need a standard for morality, and that the standard comes from God. But I disagree that the standard is the Bible. I see so many Christians idolizing the Bible in that way and just completely throw out all rationality in doing so. My friend, JESUS is the standard, not the Bible. We can understand Jesus through the Bible, but not all of Jesus' moral standards are held up through the entirety of the Bible. The Bible is full of all sorts of sin being idealized: slavery, greed, lust, murder, incest, rape, war, etc, etc. Those things do not align with the standard of the life and teachings of Jesus. The Bible was written by all sorts of flawed humans, and it shows. What the progressive guy is talking about with the fruits of the spirit is what JESUS said...and Jesus is the standard. I agree that we can know if something is moral and from God by whether it bears the fruits of the spirit, and can be confirmed through our conscience via the holy spirit. Jesus himself told us this, and Jesus is the standard.

You can't say "we've made it this far" and include polytheistic and pantheistic religions in that "we." It was Christianity specifically that gave rise to the modern sciences and Judaism that first acknowledged objective moral law and the source of said moral law. Other religions have rituals and stories about the gods. Christianity has reason and standards from God. When you build lives, communities, and nations on that foundation, we've seen how that turns out after a few hundred years. When you deviate or build on a different foundation, we've also seen how that plays out over time.

Dude, made a definitive truth claim about not being able to have a definitive truth clam. It's scary to see so called pastors out there that teach people this. Brothers and sisters in Christ hold fast to God's Word and the truth it revels. Pray for both these men, one to keep standing firm in his faith and to fight the good fight, and the other to repent and turn from his undifinitive clam to truth and back to the unshakable standard of God's truth. Love you bro, love this channel, keep preaching the true Gospel 👍!

    2nd Opinions
Well church gather around cuz we got us a problem
There's a lot of inspiration floatin' around these days
Words that paint a pretty picture
But you won't find them in the scripture
That's because there all from the book of second opinions
Well they'll say follow your heart where ere it leads you
Just let that little voice inside you show the way
    I guess the million-dollar question.
Is that your heart or indigestion?
Cuz the hearts been known to lead a fool astray
It ain't hard to get hooked on the book of second opinions
We'd rather live our own truth
Don't tell us what to do, just what we want to hear
But it's high time we turned our interest
To God's word instead of Pinterest
And finally close the book of second opinions
We'll say everything happens for a reason
Just to give our foolish ways a clever spin
And I've heard it said the Lord won't give you anything you can't handle
But the truth is we can't handle anything without Him
You say I don't have to change
Cuz it's just the way I am
I got all the proof I need right here in my Enneagram
I can tell myself it's always been about me
So give me love and positivity
But all the good vibes in the world
Will never make a dead heart beat
Well the world might tell you all roads lead to heaven
Well to that there's just one thing l'd like to say
There's one throne and I'm not on it
A solid rock and I stand upon it
And Jesus is the truth the life the way

actually mr the "Do not kill" is not a command in the bible. Only "do not murder". Killing does not equal Murder. Murder is killing with ill intent. Killing itself is not an evil action but doing it with evil intent is. This is why the israelites where allowed to kill people in war but not murder them. God justifies wars not out of ill intent but of requirment. He wouldn't use war metaphors if he had a command such as "Do not kill". Killing for self defense is valid in Christianity to since it's not of ill intent.

I think when he uses the fruit of the spirit to be his compass... I would ask him "where did you find that compass?" It's in scripture, which he doesn't seem to think we can trust the interpretation from man over time. So, how can he be sure that that is a good compass if it is from scripture? Because, my interpretation (I believe correctly based on the context of that passage) is that when the fruit of self-control is named that includes, among other things, sexual self-control. Not acting on unrighteous sexual desires, one of which being homosexual action. He can't say in one part that we can't trust scripture because of man's interpretation over time and then the next part use scripture itself to justify his compass of morality.....

My response to the Nazi Germany example would be that ultimately it lost out. Germany was defeated, because several other countries saw it was wrong. How did they know it was wrong? Because torturing and killing millions of people is about as contrary to the maximization of human flourishing as you can get. So ultimately, as a species, we advanced one step closer to good societal morals.

He wiped out what the law said that we owed. The law stood against us. It judged us. But he has taken it away and nailed it to the cross." NIV. NO LAW, NO SIN, NO NEED FOR JESUS. "If you love me keep my commandments".
