I think it's a mistake to use sealant. The gutter needs to expand & contract in the fitting, but sealant will lock it in place. Just put a new seal in IIWY.
Put a screw in the union otherwise it will leak under continuous strain from rain water. And the union should have rubber gaskets in not just some silicone. Far easier to replace old union for a new one at a cost of around £3
Really not worth messing around, union brackets are less than £3! Can tell by the easy way the clip snapped on, that there's not much meat on that gasket for it to clamp tight.
Not really... this fix will last for years... extra time wasted going getting one and fuel.. fix and repair will always save you money.. people just want easy fix even if it costs them more money... and trust me the way thinks are going we all need to save..
Fit 2 new seals if you don't want to replace with a new union! You fixed the leak on one side but give it time you'll find the other side leaking now! 😂
The labour involved in messing about cleaning the old bracket etc really isn't worth it. Better to just buy a new coupler and change it. I've never seen this sort of repair to last long term no matter what sealant etc used. If I had to do a quick fix then In my opinion denso tape is hard to beat and will cope with expansion and contraction.
keep life simple and replace the union couple quid save all the faffing about all together 5 min job instead of...6.minutes 52 secs of yr precious time 😆😆😆😁😁😁😁
It's only £3 something and might just replace it. Not worth the effort to clean and reuse the old one.

Plastic waste should always be avoided!
Fair play to you
Just replace the union hardest part is done to remove union replace with new union, just friendly advice 🤙

OB1 sealant will flex and is perfect for this type of job where slight expansion can occur...
@@PaintingandDecorating The whole reason you shortened the gutter length is to allow sufficient expansion. The OB1 won't allow that much expansion
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿correct
Can I buy the rubber seal to replace the old. As I cannot get hold of this shape of gutter ?
@@Allan-loveswoodturning you may find some seal not sure where from. Thanks
Problem is its hard to source unions for old guttering so replacing rubber seal's is the only option sometimes.

Do you work in London? My gutter wasn't fixed properly so when it rains the water falls in the windowsill.
Get adecent handy man will do it for a 40 ish quid charge its easy
@@ttsstt1000 thanks!
Before you cut the old gutter to length, make sure it fits into any other union or running outlet. Might just need re positioning

Another job well done 👍
Thank you.
Excellent so satisfying to watch 👍
Thank you glad you enjoyed.
Surely it would be easier to put a brand new joining bracket on the spend time cleaning it and siliconing one side

The sealant that you used was probably more expensive than a new union

Thank you.
A new seal does not always work, ive found even a new fitting can leak, annoying when youve put new joints on.
"Here's a seal ! " Reminds me of Blue Peter and Play School "Here's one we made earlier !" 😅 Amazing how you just happen to have a seal 😊
Did you expect footage of him going to the DIY shop or something?

It is these days.. tape would look terrible.
The denso tape goes inside the joint so you would never see it.
There note made for sealant no no just saying
Why not just replace the two , with new ones , seems pointless 🤔
@@neiledwards8931 pointless wasting money you mean. Amazing people can't fix stuff.. oh just spend.
Will take you 10 mins to install a new union and will cost you less than a fiver
@@Hinchy1a yes but this cost nothing and I didn't have to drive to get one. 👍
Why when a new one is £2.50 drrrrrrrr
Kill the planet. 😅
and the union should be screwed to facia to stop it moving.
Yes you're correct.
just get a new union
Why waste money?
