    You can use every one of today‘s systems for nearly every type of photography. They‘re all great. Leica just have their own approach, and have done their own thing for what‘s feels like forever. Those of us who like good design, good menus, and an independent take, might be interested. For professional use cases, you should try the SL line though. The CL is a great travel and everyday camera. As for prices, a lot of people buy their equipment second hand or at discounted prices anyway.

      I had a segment talking about the SL line and How I would use it for my professional uses but I cut it from the video for time and to keep focus on the m10r but for sure that would be the way to go for the type of jobs I use my canon for, I just think it’s really ugly lol 😂

    I’m a longtime Canon shooter, I shot the Canon 1D line for years and now I’m using the R5 and the R6mkii and I don’t get the Leica hype. That’s what it is to, just hype. I can’t the Leica delivering any better images than my R5. Especially without auto focus. I mainly shoot weddings and events and the Leica does not just isn’t fast enough to keep up. Sure I can using it on a tripod to do landscapes, but my Canon can do it all.

      The only Leica that could compare for professional work like weddings and events is the SL series SL2 SL3 can compete but overkill in price for sure

    Heh heh heh. Honest review. I like the simplicity of the Canon 5D MK 1! Ha. A lot of people talk about the experience of using the Leica, and it seems to be because of the simplicity of use. (Like the 5D). You showed a couple of Leica shots and, yeah, the color is quite terrific. I've seen some people's shots with Leicas, and they are not good photos. So really, you have to know what IS a good photo. Leicas won't do it all for you. But the good Leica shots truly are sublime, and mostly, I'm referring to B/W images from Leica cameras. But, you know, I've taken some nice shots too, so it is not all about the camera for sure. I find myself looking at Leica because I want that "taking your breath away" sensation when I look at the files on screen. I get this with Sigma's DP2 camera. But it is not a friendly camera to use, and again, not every shot makes me go "Wow!" And there are certain subjects that it excels in. Anyway, I could go on forever. I liked your review. I was looking at the Canon R6 MK2 to get me into F/F mirrorless. Full Frame to me has something extra compared to APSC. I suppose now we have to talk about consistency of quality in the images. Oh dear, I'm still going... Thanks for your honest appraisal. Meaningful to me right now.

    Thanks for the vid Jason and for your take on the Leica. As someone who has come from Canon to Leica and has shot M's for several years, I can say it just takes time to master the rangefinder but once you do it is the simplest form of photography you can get. Many Leica photographers favour zone focusing in the street. I prefer to manual focus. There are several professionals that use Leica M's for professional work, including weddings - it's just a different (perhaps slower) way of working. As you say, to get the best out of the 40mp of the M10r, you need top glass. The summilux you have gives a vintage look but isn't optimised for modern digital cameras. The Voigtlanders are great budget alternatives and I own a couple but believe me if you try a modern Leica M lens you will see a massive difference in image quality and rendering. Hope to see more of your stuff soon. Cheers from Aus.

      Appreciate the view and detailed comment! I’m in love with the image quality and that I’m pulling from the lenses I currently own, sadly I think my investment in more glass for the Leica may end there, I’m definitely satisfied with the quality I’m getting right now. I bounce between zone and pure manual when I’m shooting Street depending on the environment I’m in. I appreciate the Leica and the M system for what it is and I’m enjoying the purist photographic experience. $7500 or more if you go the m11 route just seems like price gouging but the experience does hold value regardless.

    For me, every camera I could use is capable of taking better pictures than I could ever shoot. I chose Leica because I wanted to get back to the stripped down, analogue style photography without the hassle of film. Leica did that for me but I accept I could probably have bought Fuji and saved myself a fortune! Did you think about the Leica Q2 or Q3 as a mid-point between normal cameras and a rangefinder?

    • @JasonOsbornePhotography
      @JasonOsbornePhotography  11 месяцев назад

      Hi and thanks for watching! Yes I have thought about the Q2 and Q3 but I hated the fact that the lens (as great as it is) is a permanent fixture on the body and can’t be switched out. I know that they offer “digital zoom or focal lengths” as a work around to that but I prefer actually being able to swap out my lenses rather than the digital crop that replicates the focal length. 28mm is too wide for my style so I passed on the Q series, if the body was interchangeable I would’ve went that way for sure. I am enjoying the m10-R for what it is though. I would’ve sold it if I didn’t.

    I can see the frustration in your demeanor in this video... I've been curious about Leica for a very long time but the price always pushed me away... maybe 10 years from now I'll find one in a garage sale and be able to grab it, but for now my canon mirrorless does everything I need it to and more for my wedding photography. After watching a few videos about the system, especially yours I'm not as interested about it. I really can't justify the price with the little that it has to offer. Thanks for the video.

    Jason, I dying laughing great post, you are right on some points, I just paid $150.00 for my battery. but I get it, I started with Canon, then I moved to fuji and I own a Leica. There is something special about shooting with a Leica maybe it's the build, maybe it's the lack of bells and whistles but whatever reason I just love it. I have not abandon my other systems, I truly love Canon and Fuji, but I do understand the Leica appeal and why their cameras are what they are. Enjoy and i'm looking to see more images from the Leica.

    • @JasonOsbornePhotography
      @JasonOsbornePhotography  Год назад

      That “something special” is for sure a true statement about shooting with it. I may not think it’s worth the cost but it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it a ton lol. I think if it was priced brand new at the price I bought it on eBay it would be fair price point. Right now I’m seeing a body only brand new sell for $7500, I got mine in great condition and extra battery for about $2500 less than that give or take. Thanks for watching!

    i think if you love photography then people who use leica can understand. because i know professionals who shoots film still and not own one AI autofocus camera that shoots 33 frames per second. leica is a small company everything is made in-house. ive realized that people who love photography are the people using leica. when you take an image you did all the work not the camera

    Really enjoyed your video! Leica cameras are incredibly expensive but, as a Canon shooter, I am envious of their image quality for street photography while being so small and lightweight. I'd like to duplicate that experience (or come close to it) with my R5. Out of curiosity, which Canon lenses do you use on your R5 for street photography? Do you lug the heavy L lenses for that purpose or have you found that some of the cheaper lightweight RF lenses give you good enough image quality? Thanks!

    • @JasonOsbornePhotography
      @JasonOsbornePhotography  3 месяца назад

      Hi thanks for watching I don’t use my R5 for street work to be honest. I would use a m6 mark ii before I got the Leica, paired with some affordable manual lenses made for the M mount R5 is mainly for my professional work.

  • @dangilmore9724
    @dangilmore9724 11 месяцев назад

    The only thing I like about Leica is that they are compact for street work. That said, I am a Canon devotee and prefer my 5D MK IV with vintage DKL mount lenses. That, and the MK IV is heavy enough to use as a self defense weapon on shoots in West Memphis or Jonesboro, AR. 😉

    I bought a Leica M6 and am planning on getting a M11 solely because I like the rangefinder experience and there is no comparable alternatives in the digital space. I don't want a camera with autofocus, a flip out screen, or video functionalities just something that's a pure photography experience. If Fujifilm was to make an actual rangefinder camera for manual focus I would buy it, but they don't and probably won't.

    As a Leica M10-shoter. No this should NOT have AF. that would ruin the whole deal with the M10. The whole system and the history of the M is built around manual focus. The lens system is made for the rangefinder system and adding AF to that would've changed the whole camera, you can find hudnreds of cameras with AF out there, and if you want a Leica brand on it you have the SL or Q-series. The M is for passion and not for AF-work. The big deal with the M-series is that you can pick up any new lens and put it on any M-body, and an old lens and put it on any new body without adaptors or anything. The price isn't based on functions, it's based on small batches, handmade gear IN germany, exklusive materials and a unique system that's not for everyone. :)

    Is Leica SL expensive?Sl 2 and Sl-2 s new are very expensive.SL 1 type 601 used is expensive as a used camera but worth the money for what it is.Have much better colours from any Canon camera even the newest,even the much more expensive ones.In my opinion has much better image quality also much better video quality.I personally don’t care about crazy good auto focus,SL auto focus is good enough for everything and for video I always shoot manually.24 fps 4k is the sweet spot for me for video and 24mp is the sweet spot for photography.Unfortunately I don’t have the money to buy (I have work with a friend’s one).If I had the money I would prefer it from every Canon exists.It ia also very beautiful and Canon and Nikon wanted to mimic it (with no success).

    People have normalized the exploitation of human beings as production machines to such a degree that it is incomprehensible to them to understand that when a person earns a living wage building high quality products with their hands and minds, it drives the price up. It should never be that “at this price it should have auto focus”. Maybe ask the question, how does canon get the prices of their products sow low? 🧐

    Leica's are worth the money for two simple reasons a they last forever best build quality and be the resale value is very high. Some people get more than what they paid for for older gear

    Wishing for autofocus on a M is just strange. Then you already have the right camera in the CL or move up to SL system.
    The price is about quantity and handmade but also made in Germany where people have a fair salary and social benefits etc and not made in China by people working for slave salary and no rights.

    "less is more"= Leica. Less everything for more money. The "legends and old masters" used analog Leicas because of the lenses. Digital Leicas mostly want to be or think to be " old masters and legends" but they forget the vision of those people are not included when they buy a Leica.

    • @angryrabbitproductions1690
      @angryrabbitproductions1690 11 месяцев назад

      Less in some areas… more in others. My Leica M11 Monochrom runs circles around just about every full frame camera that I’ve used in both resolution and low light performance. As the sensor lacks AF pixels and a colors filter array, both resolution and low light see a significant boost. The M11M is able to capture clean images at 50,000 ISO and usable images at 100,000 ISO. I can think of no other mirrorless that comes close to this.
      But the mainstream appeal of Leica is mainly a desire of the photographer to have a more involved photography experience.
