Im getting so pissed at this video by shane. The part about the cheese, as a vegan, vegan 'cheese' cannot be called cheese legally as it has no diary in it, ice cream cannot be called ice cream if there isnt enough fat in it, saying it isnt food or has 'chemicals in it' is so annoying everything has chemicals in it, water itself is a chemical, 😂
It’s sad that Shane’s like “oh my god! Cheaper food that’s the same!” How dare they?!” Yeah, how dare poor people get the same shit other people get and actually be able to afford it! 🙃
I don't think he was saying how dare they, it was just confusing that for the first time he's hearing about 2 brands having the exact same product. I didn't know this and I was shocked too, idk why this video is such a big deal, you're putting words in his mouth.
I think he was upset that other companies are making the same product more expensive and tricking you that its a better product and manipulating people about it overall

The way they treated the poor minimum wage employees at Taco Bell though. They knew they were behaving rudely and made the woman uncomfortable to the point of switching with another coworker, commented on that fact, then had the audacity to proceed doing what they were doing while Shane was bragging going “iT’S tHe G, IsNt It?” And as ryland asked the workers if the food was “dog food.” He asked workers that most likely can only afford to eat that “dog” food, while they get to go and by a fucking $20 smoothie 🙄
Literally, anything can happen to a kid. I got bitten by a dog right before our health insurance kicked in, and it was not cheap. I only recently saw how much it cost, and it really opened my eyes to how expensive kids are😭

Single-ingredient drugs, like ibuprofen, should always work exactly the same regardless of the brand because legally they should contain exactly the same active ingredient and dosage.
Also, if it was a 7 yr old realizing this and going on into a conspiracy theory rabbit whole and they think they figured out the world secrets it would be cute. When Shane does it it’s pathetic and frankly kinda sad
While my family wasn't poor, we weren't rich either and my parents would always buy generic from Aldi or Walmart. As a kid I didn't know that name brand just re-labeled stuff like that. I had an inclining back then, but I didn't know for sure. Thanks to my husband telling me, I know better. Many things work like this, from milk to electronics. It's not surprising to me at all. We love going to Aldi, buying generic, or going to the dollar store because it's a great cost savings. We know what we're getting into when buying those products.
As someone who works for a promotional company, so I am constantly buying wholesale apparel/items at 1/3 of the retail price for our business clients, it’s hilarious watching Shane find this out. Wait until he finds out that the clothes he wears actually costs less than 1/3 of the price he bought it for. Name brand is literally just that. It’s a basic wholesale brand with a specific name/logo on it to market towards specific people?
I think the thing that pisses me off beyond belief about Shane Dawson discussing conspiracy theories is that he literally does not understand the difference between conspiracies and conspiracy THEORIES and somehow built a fucking image and personality around it.

Most midwestern moms call Aldi, Aldi’s. When I was younger we’d go into Aldi and collect empty boxes and then at the end we’d sit on the counter while mom and dad packed them in boxes to my knowledge Aldi has always been that way
This makes sense because I’m from the Midwest, and I’ve always called it “Aldi’s” 😭 I remember ALDIs always having the cheap paper bags, but it was common knowledge that you buy the 25¢ fabric bags to reuse. I wish they had the empty boxes in our ALDIs because I know Costco does that and it is very convenient.
Oh same I always thought it was Aldi’s I find now a days empty boxes are harder to find I think staff is picking them up I think now they probably prefer you too bring in bags or buy them. It could also just depend on the location
I love that they comment on how grocery stores don't have windows or clocks. Like honey, when is the last time you even looked at a clock? Everyone uses phones now. And windows can break and cause glare at certain times of day. It's easier to just not add them if it's not required by law. Also, about the eggs being at the back- the fridges and freezers are mostly against the walls because it's easier to route power there. So yeah, some key staple is bound to be at the back.
I wonder if Shane knows that EVERY SINGLE grocery store has a store brand..... also if you look at the ingredients of great value whipped cream it doesn't contain any dairy products, its basically oils. Cool Whip DOES have dairy products in it hence its more expensive.
I do agree with them that some of the dollar store food is basically not food, but i don’t judge anyone who buys it whether they need to or not. Our food system is too complicated for me to judge consumers. I judge the companies that make it and take advantage of what they can get away with.
There's something about these incredibly wealthy people acting like their mind is blown by generic equivalents of name brand items that really just feels gross to me. Especially when growing up poor you literally get made fun of for having the great value cheese and crackers instead of the name brand lunchable. Going to my friends houses felt so strange when we'd open the cupboards looking for snacks and I'd be wondering how their families could afford to buy all this name brand stuff without even having to think about finding a cheaper substitute if possible. This isn't some fun crazy conspiracy. This is how many people get by.
i feel like this can be read as "poor people don't deserve nice things" especially with the starbucks cup thing. boo hoo poorer people can get a nice cup. shane is getting upset like this is a "secret thing" when it's been a thing forever. unhealthy foods are cheaper, which leads to worse conditions for already poor people, so if it's slightly better to get a generic brand instead of name brand, people will buy it. shane's in the clouds with this video
It’s really amazing how he turns it to be like this. If anything, my first thought would’ve been that this “conspiracy” uncovers how actually low quality expensive brands are that store brands charge up to half the amount less or even lower for the same product and how you really only pay for the name. My first thought would’ve been “wow, branded food is a rip off and I get the exact same value for so much less money”. Shane somehow still manages to turn this into “how dare poor people get the same for less money”
I get the pink wig song stuck in my head way too often and I hate myself for it so much. 😭 I only heard it a couple years ago during the whole controversy and now it just pops up sometimes.
shane and ryland remind me of my grandparents who talk to no one except each other and live really far away from the rest of us and are so deep into ultra religious ideologies that they're genuinely just going senile and insane (obviously the comparison here is not about religion but the fact that they are just so out of touch and in their own bubble that they do not realise shit exists outside of it)
i feel like by cutting in uncredited videos of like 20 other people comparing all these products, they made the taste test incredibly unnecessary (and also who gives a shit) so they're basically just buying all this stuff they don't even want just because they have more money than they know what to do with. gross
Own brand or generic (im from the uk) is usually made in the same factory, same recipe, same ingredients as branded things. Not always. The mark up is so high, and the price difference is packaging and branding. Some places do have better sourced ingrediences better quality. I notice this with ketchup. But most things i get are own brand. Organic , clean, natural isnt a regulated term. This isnt new or a conspiracy theory. 😂 shane is so out of touch
Omg! This is hilarious. I was a store manager for Walmart and remember my shock when I learned this about 15 years ago...😂😂😂 can't believe this is what I spend my life watching
Lol I work in the produce department and the greens are sprayed with a mixture of water / veggie wash. It is literally to keep them fresh and crisp longer. Every day someone goes through and cuts off the bits that go bad throughout the day. Water does not add that much to the cost.
I've been buying generic forever, so that story is actually very positive for me. The fact that Shane is blown away and feels, "scammed" just shows that he hasn't been buying generic, and that's on him. 💁🏽♀️

Self diagnosis is valid! it’s extremely difficult to get an official diagnosis as an adult because most of the time people are diagnosed as a kids, there aren’t a lot of Psychologists that know the behaviors of adults with autism so it’s often mistaken for ADHD and anxiety disorders.
48:00 you clock in for your shift and a 12 yeard old boy with peircings driving a g wagon with friends making a youtube video asks if the taco bell is dog food it would make me want to commit
I work in food production and this is so hilarious. it's pretty standard to package the same exact product in different packaging. you can see the code on the packaging for the factory a product is made in, if similar products from diff companies have the same code they're probably the exact same product.
Shane read some article on buzzfeed and act like he’s the only one that knows what’s going on in the world. That’s basically his content, learning about life thru buzzfeed articles.
to be honest, there are a few of those generic brand cereals that come in those giant bags that taste WAY better than the products they're supposed to be dups of. Like Cocoa Dyno Bites and Marshmallow Mateys taste better than their name brand counterparts imho.
in reference to the first 'conspiracy theory', foods labeled organic have to be usda certified to market them that way, so either trader joes is marketing them illegally or they're just extremely similar which honestly isn't far fetched.

Shane is so fake. How can you say you got the genetic stuff as a kid and were made fun of for it but then walk through Aldis like it is a zoo. “ OMG do people actually buy this stuff? Whoa that’s so crazy they are so weird this place is crazy”. Thank you Jake for letting us watch this without giving him any more views
at this point shane has been rich longer than he has been poor. so all those boohoo stories about his poor background is just a way for him seem relatable and quirky. its not like he's some frugal millionaire too he literally flexes his money and plays the "I'm oblivious to my wealth" personality to death
literally aldis stuff is so good. knock off stuff taste the same w choclates and such. hes just poor shaming... as he always does
The real gag is that Aldi does have bags you just have to pay a couple cents for them. Shane just likes to complain.
No Shane just likes kids
@@Medusa_The-Bard and animals
And the "they don't pack your groceries"
In germany that is the norm lmao
I've never seen here that people pack your groceries except when my sisters school class did that one day for whatever reason. You can pack your own damn groceries 😂
At my Aldi's they have boxes for you to pack your groceries in, I'm not sure if that's most Aldi's though. And there's also the option of buying reusable bags.
@@eggdog-- at my Aldi, the norm is to being your own carts and bags, but ofc ppl bring plastic bags that they’ve gotten before, that’s what my mom does!
I really hope that Shane Dawson doesnt make it "trendy" to buy off brand bc I just know that prices would go up, leaving poor people to suffer. this entire video feels like it's making a mockery of people who have food insecurity
Right! Even if it wasn’t the same, people who buy it are not always buying it because it’s the same thing, it’s usually just affordable.
Exactly!! and also his little rant about dollar tree bothered me. Some people don’t have the OPTION to not shop there. Choice is a luxury.
Good point Lydia! Haven't even thought of that possibility 😬 That would suck. Lets hope it doesn't happen! 🤞
It seriously does! Like let the rest of us eat off brand food without the prices being jacked.
@@aloeleaf yes exactly this.

AND they're about to have a kid while so frivolously spending money.. Sure they're well off but anything bad can happen with a kid. They're givinggg irresponsible man-child..
I only recently saw how much it cost, and it really opened my eyes to how expensive kids are😭
Shane is gonna lose his mind when he finds out that name brand prescriptions and generic prescriptions are literally the same thing…
The only meds that have ever had a difference for me are name brand vs generic pamprin. Idk why because they’re the exact same. Maybe pamprin secretly puts cracks in it or something but Istg it’s different 😭

@@anahand4137 I'm not American so I don't know much about your drugs, but that's probably because it's a combination drug (i.e. it contains multiple active ingredients in a specific, likely proprietary, proportion). Different brands likely use a different combination of active ingredients, or they're present in different amounts. Single-ingredient drugs, like ibuprofen, should always work exactly the same regardless of the brand because legally they should contain exactly the same active ingredient and dosage.
@@oenone3805 That totally makes sense. Thank you for the lesson!
Also, if it was a 7 yr old realizing this and going on into a conspiracy theory rabbit whole and they think they figured out the world secrets it would be cute. When Shane does it it’s pathetic and frankly kinda sad
It’s so out of touch fr 💀
While my family wasn't poor, we weren't rich either and my parents would always buy generic from Aldi or Walmart. As a kid I didn't know that name brand just re-labeled stuff like that. I had an inclining back then, but I didn't know for sure. Thanks to my husband telling me, I know better. Many things work like this, from milk to electronics. It's not surprising to me at all. We love going to Aldi, buying generic, or going to the dollar store because it's a great cost savings. We know what we're getting into when buying those products.

I’m an hour in and Ryland said carrying groceries in the rain was “too humbling”… uhhhh????? My face could’ve been a mirror of Jake’s.
Shane figures out how the supply chain works in 2023
As someone who works for a promotional company, so I am constantly buying wholesale apparel/items at 1/3 of the retail price for our business clients, it’s hilarious watching Shane find this out. Wait until he finds out that the clothes he wears actually costs less than 1/3 of the price he bought it for. Name brand is literally just that. It’s a basic wholesale brand with a specific name/logo on it to market towards specific people?
I think the thing that pisses me off beyond belief about Shane Dawson discussing conspiracy theories is that he literally does not understand the difference between conspiracies and conspiracy THEORIES and somehow built a fucking image and personality around it.
if anyone wants to know why Jake got "mad" at chat, this doofus was spamming "that's not how OCD works" after he made the joke abt his OCD hating how Shane was mixing the brands and chat started ratio'ing them.

Shane is so upset seemingly because he feels ripped off by the name brand stuff he buys being the same as the "cheap" off-brand stuff. I feel like he's angry for reasons that are so shallow. Like... it's so amazing that they have generic brands for people who can't afford name brand and they are the same quality. We shouldn't be made at the generic brand for "stealing" or "scamming". It should be the other way around. Why are we paying so much for things that don't need to cost that much? It's disappointing.

Am I crazy? I thought Shane literally talked all about this shit in his first documentary with J⭐️ about white labeling companies and manufacturing and brands using the same formulas for different products. Like. You already knew about this bro, come onnnnn
Is shane just trying to manipulate his audience to the point were they question basic day to day things? Like I'm sure even a kid can understand this.
They def do, Shane just thinks his audience is fucking brain dead or something
Shane reporting the store brand vs name brand thing like this is so strange. what’s so shocking. like this is something my mom told me about when I was little cause we couldn’t afford name brands. I always pictured a factory with a line that splits into two with one path going to the name brand and the other going to the store brand & it made me feel better about not being able to get the name brand. I work as an organic farmer and have worked in organic plant nurseries and have learned a lot about organic certification. There’s only very specific certification labels on most packaging for it to be authentic organic.

I have a local grocery store where it's front wall by the check out is all windows. I'm also p sure Marianos has windows near the front of the store and the cafeteria/buffet area.
The no service in grocery stores is probably bc theyre usually built of heavier materials like brick and concrete, which blocks signal. My office building has spotty cellphone service for the same reason, but they also don't care if I use my phone at work. Some people even have company cell phones that they need to use in the building...

They’re just mad this means they are eating the same food as poor people
Jake don't be rude have some empathy for him normally the servants get the groceries for them and he's just not used to this obviously
Also, a lot of grocery store have giant back stock rooms so if there were windows all over the store, they would just show the back stock rooms
not to mention not all grocery stores have the same layout. for instance mine has the dairy products right in the front when you walk in
I wonder if Shane knows that EVERY SINGLE grocery store has a store brand..... also if you look at the ingredients of great value whipped cream it doesn't contain any dairy products, its basically oils. Cool Whip DOES have dairy products in it hence its more expensive.
I do agree with them that some of the dollar store food is basically not food, but i don’t judge anyone who buys it whether they need to or not. Our food system is too complicated for me to judge consumers. I judge the companies that make it and take advantage of what they can get away with.
that's just true for most grocery stores lol
36:40 Jake losing his voice along with his mind and saying "tinnamon oast unch" is killing me
i was talking with my sibling abt this and its crazy how theyre so quick to shit on food from dollar tree when they LITERALLY JUST ATE TACO BELL
if shane shook a magic 8 ball it'd say "All signs point to retire"
There's something about these incredibly wealthy people acting like their mind is blown by generic equivalents of name brand items that really just feels gross to me. Especially when growing up poor you literally get made fun of for having the great value cheese and crackers instead of the name brand lunchable. Going to my friends houses felt so strange when we'd open the cupboards looking for snacks and I'd be wondering how their families could afford to buy all this name brand stuff without even having to think about finding a cheaper substitute if possible. This isn't some fun crazy conspiracy. This is how many people get by.
shane dawson discovers capitalism wow
i feel like this can be read as "poor people don't deserve nice things" especially with the starbucks cup thing. boo hoo poorer people can get a nice cup. shane is getting upset like this is a "secret thing" when it's been a thing forever. unhealthy foods are cheaper, which leads to worse conditions for already poor people, so if it's slightly better to get a generic brand instead of name brand, people will buy it. shane's in the clouds with this video
I literally found the live as soon as the screen went black. Hello notification settings

i feel like by cutting in uncredited videos of like 20 other people comparing all these products, they made the taste test incredibly unnecessary (and also who gives a shit) so they're basically just buying all this stuff they don't even want just because they have more money than they know what to do with. gross
wait until shane finds out pickles are actually just cucumbers
no one tell him olives dont grow from jars
The camera guy is a walking laugh track. I wonder how much extra he gets payed per laugh.
😂 shane is so out of touch
i'm so confused... apart from common sense, doesn't the packaging usually say who the manufacturer is? and the ingredients?

BREAKING: we pay more for a popular brand name attached to a product. crazy investigative journalism by shane going on
sometimes brand name has real ingredients in it compared to generic brands
Shane read some article on buzzfeed and act like he’s the only one that knows what’s going on in the world. That’s basically his content, learning about life thru buzzfeed articles.
to be honest, there are a few of those generic brand cereals that come in those giant bags that taste WAY better than the products they're supposed to be dups of. Like Cocoa Dyno Bites and Marshmallow Mateys taste better than their name brand counterparts imho.
in reference to the first 'conspiracy theory', foods labeled organic have to be usda certified to market them that way, so either trader joes is marketing them illegally or they're just extremely similar which honestly isn't far fetched.
also aldi cheese its taste different than normal cheese its. As an autistic person who had a cheese it food hyperfixation, there is a genuine difference in flavor. It is slight, but it is there.
