Loved it mate, some absolute nailed-on beasts got span there, and I've nicked one or two ID's for me own future use! \o/
@@maxdee9525 i do techno on 3 decks with a sample bank. its hella fun. techno is the most fun to layer and mess about with i find, its like the base for your creativity. plus you can basically remix tracks live using loops and FX now. my GF plays piano too so going to try having her on my 4th channel live and see how that goes.
Mate, your energy and enthusiasm is truly unmatched and it makes me really happy whenever I get a notification from you. Gods work right there you legend 🙏🏽
thanks for the video...I was never much into courses before I found you...makes me explore new genres, I have never touched before...Your energy is on another Level...Thanks for teaching us not only the skills, but also the joy in electronic music 💜
Great advice, back in the vinyl days we knew our tracks soooo well, to the point of boredom, we always had groups of 2's and 3's that we could put together in different ways to create a set. The boredom soon disappeared when the crowd came along for the journey. Melodic/Progressive, THE WAY.
I really like to do no prep. Not only because I'm a bit (understatement) lazy, but I really enjoy the surprise factor when you're about to switch base lines and it comes out awesome. Feels like a million dollars.
But thinking about it. This way of mixing we end up mixing alot more on the build up then on the outro. And you're an old school guy like me, mixing in the easy areas was considered kind of cheating.
i love getting some new tracks. sorting by key and just jamming, seeing what goes with what and sometimes you hit gold dust. its a great feeling isnt it? or like when 2 vocal samples just align and make a new chorus or something.
You are class and thank. I am a Living Room Dj and an avid listener of all electronic music trying to keep her lit. Been djing house and techno to couches for a few years now but ive always struggled with my personal favorite genre melodic. Ive learned to keep the sets interesting during the low and often extended low points in the songs that the couches die with. Fair play to ya man
Love it that you're using Eckhart Tolle as one of the books to cover the screens! 100% agree it's about feeling the music. Have to give it a try, take me back to the old vinyl days.
Man nice video. Love your energy. To be honest I just got so exited to Dj without a screen that I had to stop your video and try it myself. 😅 But after an 1:30 hour long session I am back and now even more hyped. 🔥
This is bizarre. A few days ago I was trying out a new Audio Book on my afternoon walk. Wanting to become the best version of myself I decided on Eckhart Tolle: The Power of Now. Later (Wanting the become a better DJ) I watched some videos by my Favourite DJ and positive person when something on Deck 1 caught my eye. Almost 50 now and i hope to enjoy myself behind the decks as much as you for a very long time. Buying the book seems like a good start. Andrew, thanks for the inspiration.
Hello, I really appreciate the way you're explaining and teaching. After I saw couple of your great explanation videos I see I have to try different way of learning. I just watched few DJ videos before and tried to learn, how they do it. But without any explanations like you're doing. So I learned myself and I felt it is not good enough till now. So after two years of streaming live sets I'm in the beginning again. Many thanks for your great work. You're so huge inspiration for me. Thank you so much and good luck !
love the transition at 21 min. I hear again a trace bit of "dream of heaven". You fade back in bits of the old track that way playing that's neat. Like a memory test / trick.
Salute Mate! from another DJ you are the best teacher of all RUclips you vids always have and brings good vibes, u skills are top, music selection and transitions are exquisite, keep up the excellence and love for music.
I'm not surprised to see a book of eckhart tolle in this video! you're videos are awesome and you're an awesome teacher with a great personality. hope you're going to do what you love for a long long time!
Excellent choice of tracks. Great topic too. Before I moved away from a console to CDJs, I was obsessed with looking at the screen and matching the BPMs exactly (.00s). Now I do not blind my screens, but use this technique, when I can hear the tracks are misaligning after a couple of bars and apparently I have to either slow down or speed up one of them. Then the fine adjustment of the tempo fader does the trick. It is really helpful when I want a loop to keep on playing ion the background for a while without having to correct the alignment over and over again. It is really a great habit. But here and then I admit I sin using BPM sync :-)
Haha nothing wrong with sync, and I often use it when prepping, but I just try to ring home, people should know how to beat match so if they find themselves in a difficult position they have solid understandings of how it all works - sounds like you already have that level of understanding - great work Martin!
yeah man, reading the grooves. not as easy as now with spectrum tho as it gives you a better idea (can see synth coming etc) plus you can even see the beats.
Amazing. Always love your videos so much. I learn tons and you are one of the only people who really looks like they’re enjoying playing and teaching 💙I’m working through all your courses and absolutely loving them 💜
How the fuck have you only 50k views. This video has changed my whole outlook on learning to dj. So inspiring, I've picked out a nice towel to throw on the screen
Duuuuude. Found this video looking for tips on mixing melodic house & techno in advance of my first club gig next month. I've never Dj'd in public before. Your passion and sheer excitement for what you're doing seems unparalleled and I can't wait to dive into all the content you've created!
Your videos are very cool!! I enjoy mixing trance and have used a lot of your techniques that you show with melodic techno/house! I haven't found a dedicated trance episode, would you ever be down to do one?
trance relies a lot on melodies. my advice would be to try and mix in key and watch your melody loops. dont clash them too much, use your EQs. echo/delay & reverb etc on the synths and stuff works really well too. trance really doesnt like being mixed as much as other stuff like techno tho as often more things going on. i like to say bring a loop with some of the next track pretty early, just to get the listener used to a hint of the next track. loops are your friends here. trance also doesnt like to be that aggressively mixed i find. its all about blending into like a seamless experience/vibe. some tracks the melodies will compliment and some sound awful. best to just try and see which go into each other. i used to DJ a lot of psychadelic trance in the 90s and that stuff was super hard to do much with. so many things going on. modern trance is much easier tho to play around with.
nice tutorial, I don't want to fancy myself. * prepare before playing. because many songs do not start in signature 1/4 but 3/4 or even 6/8 and many people confuse the notion that 1 beat in a song is always No. 1 and this is a mistake. especially techno and melodic techno. I think that without headphones on monitors or sound system is the best learning system many songs do not reflect the nature of the headphones Again really good job !

i think with people using more than 2 channels a lot now crossfader kind of lost its use unless scratching. i never use mine its just there to knock and screw me up haha
Really grateful for this. Perfect timing as I’m working with modular gear and production, and I’m trying to nail a genre that can be worked on live. I’d got it down to techno and melodic, but really needed to see how I could approach things. This answers all questions :D
i find ethnic type vibes work really well in that environment. you have sample banks etc to use for it? i use traktor with 3 decks and an F1 for samples and it gives so much flexibility. you can link ableton etc in with all that if producing too. i lack the production skills so i make up with samples and loops and an extra deck.

Your style of mixing and song choice is very similar to mine it's weird to watch, even the low volume spinbacks! Some people won't even hear that but the subtlety works best for what I like. An alternative idea if it's possible.... have 1 channel on the video playing the main out and the other channel as the cue, basically what you've got set for your headphones so people can listen with headphones and hear how your cueing, beat matching, phrasing etc. Would sound weird as a normal video but as a teaching video might work? Appreciate your efforts 👌
