Thank goodness that lady called the police to say that the photo fit looked like a guy she once knew, hence giving the police his name. Great police, detective and scientists work. Feel so sorry for Shannon and her parents. Such a wonderful, capable and talented young woman she was. All taken away by a sadistic pervert. Love the second woman's court speech at 19.40. RIP Shannon.
God bless you. I live a few hours northwest in a very rural part of PA. Idk how y'all can stand how bad Philly has gotten. It's sad, it used to be such a great place to visit. But now I'm not risking it.
Just for scaring women ! He needs further punishment. Just for 1 woman to have to live and work knowing there is a predator lurking is horrible. What a man prancing around and picking on single young women. And he was in the military or something ? Ugh ! I hope his butt is properly re-imagined in prison where he belongs. Yes, I mean this in every way. I have no sympathy for these demons posing as humans !
Perseverance is the great way of solving crimes. It is a virtue to have it, and it will pay off at the end no matter how long it might take. Great work by these detectives, kudos to all of them. 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍🙌🙌
Oh my goodness this episode struck a nerve. In 2016 one of my friends named Shannon was killed. She too was brilliant she probably the kindest, sweetest person I ever met, she was 20. She went into a popular chain variety store in my country's capital and was missing for about 4 days before they found her in a freezer in one of the storage rooms on the top floor. All of a sudden the camera footage for inside the store went missing. She was raped and they said she put up a good fight. We all really think that she was kidnapped to be human trafficed but she fought too much (human trafficking was rampant at that time here, still kinda is) My country is really small so that case was massive. Unfortunately so one was ever charged with her murder and the company is still up and running but none of her friends and family ever shopped there again cause the business acted really shady when she was found
I'm really sorry to read that. I'm sorry for your loss, truly. I hope that some day you're given the solace of a solved case but as is the way of trafficking that is a stranger world of crime and somehow goes unsolved more often. Thank you for sharing.
“I thought about everything we ever taught Shannon to believe - to turn the other cheek, to show compassion and to be forgiving,” Mrs. Schieber said. “If you have a set of principles and then don’t live by them when you are tested, were they ever your principles to begin with?” Mrs. Schieber’s request for a sentence of life without parole was ultimately given to Troy Graves, who also pleaded guilty to 13 other sexual assault in two states.
Admirable from families but I do believe that their opinion ( relatives of victims) should be irrelevant and the jury or judge always should impose the most stringent sentence. We all have seen people sentenced to life without parole being released at some point. At the end, the society as a whole is a victim too and some of us don't want to take any chances with other than death penalty
The cops that went to her apt. that night should have been fired. They were called out to investigate noises from the apartment & did nothing. It was believed she was still alive at the time. It looks like that part was left out of this episode.
What also makes my blood boil is the city officials covering up the other similar crimes that were committed in the city, just to make it look as if crime was down, which possibly helped this monster to get away with more crimes
This sad criminal tale was a triumph of teamwork and multiple contributions to solve a tough case. Kudos to all the investigators. Condolences to all the victims and families.
No such thing as "Fort Warren" and it's not in Colorado. It's "F. E. Warren" Air Force Base and it's in Cheyenne, WY. Graves was a Missile Maintenance Technician (MMT) working on the Minuteman III weapon system and was assigned to the 90th Missile Maintenance Squadron. Until he was caught, he worked on a nuclear weapon system and possessed a security clearance. He was described as quiet and a loner. There were no indicators in his job performance during his time at F. E. Warren.
The juxtaposition of men who rape and murder women… and the fathers of the women who are victims.. is so jarring. Why are so many men predators? The sheer number of forensic files episodes about victimized women… is just mindblowing. This needs to change once and for all.
I don't get it either. I think it has to do something with high levels of testosterone mixed with male privilege and power issues. Meaning both biological and social
The juxtaposition of usually female Caucasian teachers gRAPE male students…and the mothers of the women who are victims.. so jarring. Why are so many female teachers seemingly predators? The sheer number of them are excused by women, as well as the “where was she when I was in school” pathetic male. I guess women aren’t seen as predators, and the boy wanted it. This needs to change once and for all!
I'm from Philly • _Rittenhouse Square_ has always been an exquisite sight & a superb vibe overall. Shannon was beautiful, brilliant and the fact that some lowlife unjustly snatched that away from her isn't fair. People fucking suck.
Geographical profiling has been used in many different investigations, including robberies, rape, murder and arson cases. Still a very effective tool today in profiling and eliminating suspects.
Perhaps I'm odd but the narrator, music and sounds of this series is comforting to me in a way. I just like having it on in the background when I want to mindlessly surf the web and relax.
I've always loved the fact that Peter Thomas could tell a story In 22mins. What shows like , Dateline:SecretscUncovered takes an hour sometimes an hour & a half to tell. And I mean they told just as much info that we needed to kno to be able to get and follow the Whole crime story. And up til now Forensics Files is still the undisputed crime story Champ🎉 and it is now 2024 YEAH! P.S. & Now they are trying their handcwith Forensic FILES II. Hope it continues. This is a highly scientific method, allowing investigators to narrow down the search and get closer to the identity of the perpetrator, especially in serial cases.
Its just awful that people still want to hate and hurt others. I pray for comfort for these loved ones and that people would come to know God and let Him guide their lives.
A somewhat similar story on another true crime series in England where years ago a married serial rapist would commit his crimes late at night. His victims were all elderly females, and, weirdly, one elderly man.
What a tragic story. Shannon a beautiful young girl with a bright future,a Future mom and grandmother. RIP. I can t imagine what her folks went thru.Condolences to her family and friends. As far as Troy her killer he deserved the death sentence. The amazing work by detectives, police, forensic investigators who helped solve this case .And again the Bible speaks the truth: Thou shall not kill, thou shall not bear false witness, thou shall not steal, thou shall not covet. As a man sows so shall he reap. Evangelist Roger Mansour
A clear case to me for the death penalty. Habitual rapist, murders one of his victims, confesses to his crime, knew in his letter he would get caught and knew he had a problem, would not stop unless apprehended, crimes supported by evidence, witness testimony, and his own confession. Usually not for the death penalty due to being applied unjustly, but this would clearly be the just outcome here.
The laws need to change, those who are proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt including DNA, fingerprints and video evidence, their lives must not be spared. The victims will continue with the trauma for the rest of their lives while paying taxes to feed the perpetrator.
10:40 that image appears to be an error. That's a composite volcano and looks like Mount Adams, which is in Washington (it also could be Mount Rainier). That image is not from Colorado. I firmly believe there are no mountains that look like that within the state.
So he was never tried in Philadelphia? I don’t think the Pennsylvania has the death penalty so maybe it wasn’t worth it. The only good thing about life in prison is the possibility of jailhouse Justice happening to him over and over.
