    Akeeba, you are doing the Lord’s work with what you do here. Especially this course. You may never know how much hope you’re giving us. I spent my weekend crying because I felt so lost. I am a homeschooling mom for 12 years now. My first child started reading at 3 years old with my help, I literally just did flash cards and sight word games I made up and then I moved into homeschooling curriculum for phonics. When she was 4 she was reading at about a 3rd or 4th grade level. She’s 14 now and wants to be a writer one day. Specifically Christian fiction books for kids (like Narnia etc) She was a natural. She still reads tons. She goes through books so fast. Her knowledge is amazing too because of all her reading…and I can’t take much credit for her success, it’s like she was born ready. I did read a lot to her in the womb and as a baby..I made books another member of the family. . Now my second child is 6 and she’s totally the opposite. Reading is not her first love. She prefers numbers but she’s also very unable to sit still for periods of time. She’s very active. She only reads cvc words and guesses at everything else. I’m extremely anxious because I know it me that’s the problem, I’m not the best teacher right now. So I hope this course will help me. I have faith in the Lord that this is my answer to my prayers for a couple of years now. Thank you so much. If you don’t mind, I’ll update you in a few months, which I’m sure will be much success. God bless you!

    Thank you for saying this. If every parent in our community (black) did this 20 to 30 minutes a day in reading and basic mathematics. Our scores collectively would greatly increase and improve. 🙂

    Akebe, thank you for all you do!
    God will surely reward your efforts.
    I tell parents to spend few minutes with their kids on reading a day. It worked for me when I was teaching my kids reading and math at their early childhood. Do not leave it all for classroom teachers. Teachers are overwhelmed already with paper work, behavior, classroom management, tests scores etc! I worked as assistant teacher in pre-kindergarten campus for 4years plus till the lockdown. I knew I wasn't going back to school classroom anymore .
    I have been working from home as a licensed child care provider, the school ages kids I got during the lockdown are so advanced when they got back to school. My current 4yrs old in my childcare are ready for kindergarten and moving closer to 1st grade level in math and reading.
    The system messed the kids up when they start them with sight words instead of phonics.
    I love the benefits of starting kids early to reading,math, writing.
    I have families on waiting list because of my method of care and teaching.
    Questions;
    Please when is your next group sign up ? I missed the January date?
    Also, can you share your email address?

    Good morning. I am a Guyanese teaching in Guyana. The books you mentioned are not available in Guyana. I am teaching grade 5. I have 3 non-readers in a class of 4. May I join the reading group and adapt for our local situation? In Guyana there is a national competitive examination at Grade 6. Thanks

    Hi. I'm all the way in S.A. This year I'll be starting with homeschooling for my 5 and 10 year old sons. I'm really struggling to get the phonics to reading teacher's guide in a reasonable price, could anyone kindly recommend other websites or stores apart from Amazon or thiftbooks. This is will be highly appreciated.

    Hi, the same rule applies in TN or kids will be retained in 3rd grade. Alternatives are to take the test again and pass or send the child to 4th grade with year round tutoring.

    Hi Akeeba, Do you think it’s necessary to purchase the Teacher’s guide to the Phonics to reading curriculum?

    • @AkeebaMaze
      @AkeebaMaze  Год назад

      Hi! Yes, it’s a must for two reasons. One, especially in the first two books, there are a lot of oral exercises that you will miss. There are also sections for dictation, where you tell a child the word to spell. Without the teachers guide you will not be able to do this. also one of the main reasons that children fail to learn how to read properly is teacher preparation and knowledge of phonics. Reading The script directly from the teachers guide will almost completely get rid of that. If you’re worried about the cost, join the group, and a couple months there may be people who are finished with one book and ready to sell their teachers guide. I also bought a used teachers guide for about six bucks on abebooks .
