kenwood amplifier restoration is my next project.
today i'm going to restore the japanese amp, it looks brand new on the outside, but inside the components are badly damaged. it took me a long time to get the amp working again.
The recovery video still has many shortcomings, looking forward to receiving your feedback so that I can build a better channel...thanks a lot!

Better do it one more time just to make sure its warmed up.
You had me until you clear coated the front panel :(
Yeah, these devices look better with a matte clear coat.
@@christianrottler there is no clearcoat on them, it's matte anodized aluminium

Got rid of the bad ju ju via, electrical exorcism, put in new smoke.

the thing is, it's burning but inside there are no traces, whether on the cables or the circuits.... He spray paints the facade black but the yellow inscriptions are not covered by black paint! It's truly magical..... you're a good guy, you should get an engineering degree.
Clear coat ;)
The opening is hilarious!!!!
Where a Variac comes in handy. bring up the voltage and if the current starts to climb too high not exponentially to the voltage, you know there is a problem and before you blow something.
the thing is that he is not supposed to touch eletronics, i guess this repair is also fake.
🤔🤔...?
@@restorerestoration4705 Cables dont seem to melt this way if a good Amper Value fuse installed there. Thats questioning.

Amazed at his confidence of his work. No bringing up with variac or troubleshooting. Congrats.

Try using flux while soldering. That way you won’t get that brown schmutz after soldering. Plus, copper braid should be moved after absorbing solder, because using only one place might not absorb all the solder.

Blindly switching on the amplifier without first cleaning and checking essential components is unprofessional and can lead to massive damage to the circuit board and the previously intact components. Before anyone gets upset about the criticism: I have a master's degree in radio and television technology and 45 years of professional experience in the field of audio-, video and power-electronics in the areas of service, production and development, I know what I'm talking about
nice job! But please, someone get this man some modern day equipment! That voltmeter and soldering iron are older than me. lol

Very good staged 'restoration' project. Sadly you missed a few things which indicated that the amplifier was made to look old, corroded and failing in a spectacular way. But entertaining none the less.

How anyone would neglect their amp like this, is beyond me 😮. I think I would have binned it right away. FUBAR IMHO but you prove me wrong.

Beautiful paint job....reminds me of a cat butt
You should paint capacitors also
The failure of this amplifier is man-made. A power outlet can be seen around 1:57 in the video. There's a wire that doesn't belong there. And at 2:08 it's gone. The soldering of the outlet also has new traces only in that part.

Whenever you are testing ANY ELECTRICAL products, ALWAYS connect it via a SERIES BOARD. This SERIES board has two paralled 200W filament bulbs, but in series with the load . This avoids sparking, flashing etc of the electric product.

You, As a technician should be admonishing him for his reckless initial application of full mains to a device of unknown condition. Doing so could easily result in failure of many other components turning what may have been a simple repair into a much more costly and time consuming project.

Wouldn't it be better to replace the damaged parts (or at least those ones that looks pretty bad) first, and then try powering it on? This way those damaged parts wouldn't cause more damage, right?

Looks like rectifier is short on the secondary, its best to use current limiting such as a light bulb in series on the mains side to prevent further damage. Secondly, its best to pull apart and clean the PCBs first.
Thanks for your feedback

WHY the orange peel clear coat 😢

Current limiting device is a good tool to test equipment that looks abandoned. Its better to be safe with those old amps. Damaging original Audio Power Amp ICs or Transistors can be expensive . And if you're thinking Aliexpress will save you, there are lots of counterfeits ICs and Transistors for your "vintage" audio amp.

The nice orange peel texture all over the amp really adds character. Permanently encasing years worth of grime beneath the paint is a good idea for future archaeologists to study when it’s dug up years later. The clear coat and paint really seal in the dirt and grime for future studies. Prep is the key to a nice paint or clear coat.
If you’re not going to prep at least wet sand.
It never got repaired. you will never close the unit before testing it. Audio on video is coming from another source. Is just a camera trick.
Y’know what’s funny? He hearted that comment… but also, why did he make it so shiny!?

Hello. If you turn on the amplifier for testing, I advise you to turn on the amplifier through an incandescent lamp connected in series with the amplifier. If the amplifier is defective, the light will illuminate and protect the amplifier components from fire. After repair, the first inclusion must be carried out through an incandescent lamp, so as not to re-repair and understand that the amplifier has not yet been repaired and there are problems in it.
