Thanks for this review. I ended up buying this drone and have been flying it for over a month now. There are a few idiosyncrasies with the drone. For example you'll need an adapter to reach the USBC port on the flight controller. Other than a few gripes, I am in love with this drone. It flies well, and it crashes well. It is very sturdy. This is my first drone so I can not compare it with others i have owned. I think I'll buy another one at some point. I have configured this drone to be under 250g with battery/filters/nakedgopro. Wish it had a bit more flight time, but all in all I think this is a great deal and a great performing drone.

Watching yourself and le_ti_lik originally with the xi35 pro is what sold me on them. I've since become a HUGE fan of oddityRC. My xi25 and xi35 pro builds still shock me as to what they're capable of. I look forward to your taking the 25 out, because to me, having the 25, i don't see much of a point with a 20 that probably doesn't weigh much less.

I wish I could remember the weight, maybe I have weighed the xi25 pro yet, but that could be a determining factor. That and just having more thrust for performance or to carry an external HD camera effectively.

The analog version uses nano camera and if you want to go 0 tilt you have to slightly melt the plastic bellow the camera and then you can do 0 tilt. Believe it or not it was originally designed for micro racing, not cine stuff. 🤣
If you want to fit a bigger camera, then you get the o3 version of the frame and I've got a custom print that I'll upload soon that will fit a 19x19 camera (designed for the polar).

Needed a wee 3D printed shim to put the props at the right height in the ducts (the cinerace motors are shorter), and I'm loving seeing reviews of the native version! Definitely buying an all up one if I ever have to replace after this.

I also have the OddityRC 5" toothpick which is sub 250g with a 1000mah 4s, and the J5 Ultralight 5". Can attest, quality is absolutely top notch. The low weight of my Xi20 means I can carry a Peanut or Thumb Pro and still come in under the weight of this factory o3 version.

Blown away by this quad. Tried a 2"er in the past (z20), and was very underwhelmed -- bad flight times, handled poorly in the wind, underpowered if you wanted to fly aggressively, etc. Gave the xi20 a try just because I had heard good things about it, and wow was I pleasantly surprised. Acros better than any ducted quad I've had, good flight times (~7 minutes an on 850) and seems to handle the wind reasonably well for such a small quad. Of all the cinewhoops that I've tried, this one feels like it flies the least like a ducted whoop.

would this be a good choice for indoor real estate when there are tight spaces and small rooms while using a naked gopro ? Would it be beneficial as an addition to the XI25 which would be used for more open indoor flying ? I would use naked vista, 4S and a naked gopro (the analog/vista option of the XI20 has a gopro mount)

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  11 месяцев назад

I think if your shooting professionally or wanting to a larger propped quad like the XI25 will be better suited. More stability, more flight time and able to carry the external hd camera more effectively. This could do it, but as previous a somewhat larger propped quad will make a big difference. This also doesn't have a canopy we can easily attach an external hd camera to, so we have to DIY that portion.

I don't care if the ducts break (they all eventually do unless they are large/heavy, which I don't want either) ... what is a "yes, that's the frame I want", is the ability to change out a broken duct without dismantling the quad/removing motors...etc. This frame is exactly that, if you crack the ducting (which almost always results in unwanted vibration or jello), you simply change out the plastic part without removing motor screws, etc.
We humbly await the 2.5" review (hopefully under 250 G) and a direct comparison.

    • @NickBurnsFPV

I think there are two qualifiers. One is the batteries you already have. I think it wise to buy quads based on the batteries we have that we can use on hand. The next one is how comfortable have you gotten with fpv. More weight and speed can be a recipe for big crashes and damage to property, the quad, and the wallet. I think it also wise to stay light to decrease our overall damage in our crashes.

The fpv gear is now at a level where it's prob best to just build your own quad so you can get one exactly how you want it spec'd out. Get the frame and motors you want, the fc you want, and build your " perfect quad". Parts are so good now that there's no reason to settle fpr bind and fly's that aren't exactly what you're looking for. I'm at a point where I only buy BNF quads because it's cheaper than buying parts individually. I'll buy 3 BNF quads and then pull the parts I want to build one and use the rest for spare parts after crashes etc. It's cheaper than buying oarts as you need them and encourages you to build random franken-quads on a whim haha

I suspect we have a substantial group that are less experienced that prefer the bnf route as I get so many questions about motor and prop choices. I think this group is a few $K from having the experience you have built.

@@NickBurnsFPV you're absolutely right....I almost forget that it's already been a few years since I started and I sometimes forget what it's like to be new to the hobby. Thanks for reminding me to check myself and my blurted opinion. Man, I remember watching your vids before I even got my forst quad and having no idea where to start or what to get or expect...time really flies in this hobby! Cheers to what you do for all the new guys and also for us guys that are now longer into the hobby as well. Your vids definitely land with everyone of us and I need to remember that I'm definitely not the last guy to start the hobby no matter how late I felt I started haha. Cheers, Nick! Thanks for the review and I apologize if my original comment came off as negative

Everything coming out now is small with a 5-inch price. Companies don't want to deal with RID and their sales are lessening so they're creating smaller sizes with a 5-inch price. DIY drones are the way to go in this hobby.

Honestly, I always self-build, and there's basically no difference in price between micros and 5", unless you're talking about tinywhoops or something.

That's because of the cost of the o3. With discount code this is a $350 quad. The vtx alone costs $230. You would struggle to build this, with an o3, for less than $350 imo. (Obviously if you don't want an o3 then this isn't the whoop for you )

Personally speaking, I'm not custom building wacky Frankenstein quads because I like the work or process, I'm just disappointed with the thrust output and correlating price with all the non tiny whoop quads. Don't like getting stuck with vanilla power for a few more seconds in efficiency. Hence why im watching this after building my own (with bigger motors)

It is a biggie for a 2inch prop. But when it works well in a specific configuration, hard to argue

Everyone just keep giving DJI all your business and see what happens. Gosh, damn - everyone's so short-sighted. I suppose that explains the broader quagmire we're in....
