A certain reviewer called it buttrock deathcore and I completely disagree. There's nothing generic about this album. It's beautiful, and it's not like they've completely forgotten how they started back in 2008. There are still deathcore elements, but this time with a melodic touch to it, and I'm all for it. We saw it start in The Valley, and here, it's in full force.

“Masterpiece” is thrown around a lot, But I Truly feel this album is a masterpiece. Not only is every song uniquely beautiful. But the contrast of the cleans and screams goes perfectly along with the theme of the album. Same with the heavy parts and the slower more “rock” parts being perfect counterparts to one another. I will be very surprised if any other albums surpass Kin for AOTY (at least for my favorite album this year).

I feel Kin is the counterpart of The Valley, we take on a journey through Phil's life (The Valley); the other we take on a journey through the depths of his mind (by my interpretation [Kin]).
English is not my native language so i wanted to what does Kin means and… it hits very HARD after experiencing the album. I felt every scream, every clean of every track that hits home.
This is a hot take but The Valley and Kin are peak Whitechapel both musically and lyrically.

kinda yeah, Phil said that Kin is the continuation of TV with him moving out of that place and trying to move on and on Bloodsoaked Symphony specifically its him vs his inner demon who tries to revive his parents to keep him in the valley, in the dark place but fails and the "real" phil has come to terms with what happens and moves away

No lie, first listen through this album I already loved it, but it was like the valley, the more and more i listened to it, the more it became one of my favorite albums I've literally ever heard. Whitechapel over the years of listening to them, they've never failed to impress me, especially now with the cleans and softer music... Phil's cleans are absolutely beautiful, but even the rest of the band is talented as fuck too! For a band that was known for heavy deathcore, almost death metal styled shit, nobody would have ever guessed they would make a beautiful album like this and The Valley... But they did it, and that's why they are one of my favorite bands right now! I sat here when this album was announced asking myself "how can they top The Valley? How could they make something better than that masterpiece" then Kin dropped and they did it, they fucking topped it! This is their best album to date, and now whenever they announce their next album, once again I'll ask myself "Will they top Kin" and I sure hope they do. I'm so excited to see what direction they'll go next album, I really am!

Late to the party here but wanted to bring up why the sudden change in the title track hits so hard, that melody the guitar start playing appears in multiple of the other songs, but it's never the focus. It's always in the background or it goes by so fast in a solo you never register it, until then. The vocals and instruments step aside and that one melody takes full center stage and provides the foundation of what is - imo - one of the best solos of all time (in terms of power through context), and then a variation on the melody fading out to a piano playing a few soft notes ends the album and it feels complete.

I absolutely loved the Valley, it's one of my favorite metal albums ever, and has a strong personal connection with me. However, I can't believe that they managed to follow it up with something of this quality. I think it's objectively better, and sure it'll take time before I can choose between them, but holy hell, this band is truly something else. They've evolved beyond their labels and are doing something that means so much more. Definitely a Top 10 album for 2021 for me, probably Top 5.

Kin is such a masterpiece! Saw them in July, they were absolutely ridiculous! Phil is basically Maynard James Keenan that can scream/growl like none other!

    • @tyler951
      @tyler951 Год назад

Yes, I got a Maynard vibe from his cleans and the screaming and growling was incredible. I really want to see a headlining concert because their set supporting Between the Buried and Me and Trivium was way too short. They have massive range and ability.

My girl of 8 years left me last November. Literally when this album came out. And I’m the biggest whitechapel fan and I blasted this in my car for months. Crying like a bitch, lol. Best album ever.

HEAVILY influenced by Tool since the last album. You can hear it and even see it all around. This cover is highly similar to Tool's last album, the guitars, drums, this Maynard esque vocals. I like it :)

ETID and Whitechapel out here annihilating every other release this year, and this year has been MENTAL.
Edit: the fact that PhillyBo can sing this well after all the years of insane vocals proves he’s god-tier

Totally agreed... Will need to give this a few more listens because ERRA and Trivium were also really high up on the list as well but ETID is currently my #1.

Someone made a connection from Whitechapel to 5FDP. And I can see it. I mean listen to Remember Everything by 5FDP and then Orphan by Whitechapel. There are some similarities. Great album btw. Probably one of the best of 2021 (Omega by Epica deserves to be mentioned here as well so yeah)

I don't know if this could top valley for me
I mean the valley had maybe some of the heaviest Bangers I've heard by them...but also some really nice soft emotional tracks that you cen vibe easily
I'm not saying anything bad...still an amazing record for their discography....but I miss the Breakdowns on we are one or bouncing riffs on black bear ....

In my opinion this is Whitechapel's best produced and mixed album but is a very close second to my favourite from them being This Is Exile! The vocal melodies, ranges and acoustic verses are everything!

I had a similar reaction, well, in my head. On the outside it makes me cry. Which is cool, because that's how I know it is beautiful work.
It really is a musical journey. I feel like I need a shower and a cigarette in the best possible way. They really hit my eardrums in the g spot.
