My apologies if advertisements were appearing on this video near the start. Sometimes channel networks and YT ad priority is hard to stop. Hopefully it's removed now.
Means a lot that you would make certain of that, Max. Your educational talks about fighting games, from technical stuff to social and mental stuff, is always amazing. Keep it up Dood
Social Networks were a big mistake from day one. These things are breeding grounds for all sorts of idiots. People want to show their best but without being accounted by any mistakes that happen. Twitter, Facebook, any type of social media can die on a dumpster fire and nobody's gonna miss them. Besides cancel culture has become as toxic as ever too, with lots of people using this as a tool for nepotism and self-aggrandizement.
Dont worry, 2020 is ranking up everything that is bleak, depressing, and all that is hell just so that the rest of the decade will be great. 2000's had everything great and everything bad towards the end
Max, you're like one of the few people who I know who's genuinely not cynical or pretending to be not burnt out of fighting games. Even with what is arguably the cornerstone of fighting game venues is in shambles, people will learn to move onto the next thing and still continue to love fighting games through connection with people who they're closest to. Thank you for reminding that to everyone.
Some people can change without suffering from man-made consequences and if it's true that a last offense was say 20 years ago, and the person went through remorse alone, then that might be evidence. In fact some countries has gotten rid of retribution and yet some criminals change anyway...
Problem is when it comes to the underage stuff there really is no reform or change from that. Maybe in short spurts, but statistically speaking a child predator will always end up re-offending. They're sick in the head. There's also no statute of limitations when it comes to children. So I hope any of the kiddie diddlers have to become registered offenders. If you abuse a child in that way you don't deserve any sort of redemption. Destroying innocence is one of the most disgusting things that you can do to someone and it leads to life long mental issues. So no matter what it should not be excused. These are the people who need to be thrown out. Not people who shit talk or make some jokes that get people all upset. Jokes are jokes, sexual abuse towards minors especially is a whole different ball game.
at the time of not seeing those intros, you can imagine that his opinion about this matter would be very serious. I was expecting his speech about all these stuff.
@@MissAshley42 there's a difference between a pre-made description that's automatically included in every RUclips video he posts and an intro / outro he has to manually edit in. And honestly, considering all the crazy work he puts out and how he chooses to speak up in these trying times, I think he deserves to leave it as is. It's not a big deal.
I hate when an assole make decent people feel like they have to explain themselves. You've always been a genuine person, Max. And it really bothers me that you have to go through this because of your association with Evo.
I spoke to you at EVO2018 and let you know that you're the most wholesome guy in this community. It was true then and it's true now. Please don't lose faith in what you enjoy doing.
This hurts a lot. EVO is one of the biggest gaming events every year. To see it's reputation go out like that breaks my heart. All that years of work just destroyed in one fell swoop.
When you said that your "stupid brain" made those connections, I felt that. I know what it's like to spiral yourself down into self-doubt and depression for things you can't control. But that kind of empathy and self-questioning is what makes you a good person.
It’s times like this where I have this constant fear of the crazy idea of “what if I said or did something that would have caused something like this? What if it was something I didn’t do or knew about?” And I have somewhat of a persecution complex, so these kind of things make it go haywire.
Sanobearon It's unavoidable. Evil is just far too entrenched in everything nowadays. All you can really do, at least as a commoner, is minimize your own culpability.
Unfortunately it's the evolution of organizations. Once they get large enough, it's almost impossible for rot not to set in somewhere. Professional sports, the Olympics, WWE, etc. Where there's power, someone is waiting to abuse it. It was just competitive gaming's turn.
I hate twitter so much. That was a heart felt message and people on that stupid site go out of their way to find the worst interpretation of what anyone says.
I swear. Its so baffling and honestly border line scary how this whole cancel culture and mindless blind hating became. i feel this new generation of people hating anything and being entitled without knowing why but following a trend is very dangerous for all of society
People were saying that about Zero and other people before they were exposed. 99% of us here don't really know max, anyone can have shady shit in the past, so stop idolizing people that seems good.
The only fighting game I consider myself involved with would be Smash, making this whole thing sting in particular. But what you said about the FGC not being about top players? I couldn't agree more. The best memory I have of Smash as a whole was one of my first times going to a non-"local" tourney with some friends. It was amazing seeing so many people interested in the same thing as I was. Seeing some names I'd seen on highlight videos or forum discussions. Playing friendlies. Watching matches. Getting hefted in the tourney itself. Going to lunch with my friends, and just generally having a good time. So, when the day was over, and we all went home, my one friend sent me a link to the stream where the rest of the tournament matches were playing. I realized something, then...... I honestly didn't give a shit about the matches. I couldn't have cared less who was winning, or who was going to win. Despite the event being the reason we went, it really wasn't the important part. Instead of watching tourneys online, I'd rather watch some funny GRsmash videos, or some hyped reactions for a recently announced character, or chat on a forum, or watch Sakurai gush for 45 minutes about my favourite fighting games I played in high-school. Because stuff like that is the game itself, and the community around it. The event is just a way for the community to express itself, and communities are thousands and thousands of people, not the top 20. That's not to say this isn't an incredibly serious issue, one that requires the attention it's getting. As much fun as games can be, they take a back-seat to real-life issues like this. You can't fix or improve something without acknowledging the problem, but I just really really hope the thing that so many people are invested in isn't ruined by something that never belonged in it in the first place.
I've been wanting to hear your perspective because, like it or not, i consider you a leader within the FGC and i trust your insight, guidance, and perspectives. I don't have your connections so i don't know how to feel about this correctly. To me you are an authority, you're gonna know the people affected by these dramas and can give an accounting that isn't clouded by bias or hearsay.
>To me you are an authority And this is the answer to anyone wondering why those kids did what Wiz told them to do, even if they didn't want to and could have easily said NO.
I've been waiting to hear, *THIS* perspective from Max, cuz oh boy, that first tweet he did about this, was REALLY shortsighted. It's nice to be optimistic and look for the best, but; you should've looked at this as a partner, (like Nintendo, NetherRelm, Bandai), and asked, "Who's involved."
i understand the statement but this is good that all of it is comming to a end for the victims and bringing light to these garbage humans...this is not a "smash community" thing either. it's human crimes
EVO has really grown into a cultural event, like a yearly Olympics. Seeing such a celebration of love for fighting games be tarnished by this kind of thing is disheartening
Ben Dover in the gaming world, it’s like the olympics. People from all over the world come to compete, with thousands upon thousands of people showing up at the event, streaming and throwing money at it
A community should be defined by how it TREATS its weakest, which is the flipside of the coin to how it treats its "weakest links"...meaning shit-hole predators. If you protect the predators and don't protect the victims, then that is THE PERFECT DATA to judge a community. Don't fall into some childish notion that there is some perfect community that exists free of a predators.
Dave Han Lain except look at r/kappa, the FGC and everyone outside of the smash community, te smash community is now constantly bombarded with pedophile jokes and memes and there’s no way people are letting that shit go especially the whole smashers don’t shower meme held on for so long. @@StateOfTheMind11225 So please be clear: You are saying that the damage to the Smash community is SOOOO irreversible and damaging, that this will DESTROY the entire Smash community...it's the "endgame"...like *SNAP* Now the whole universe is FLOOOOODED with smash memes and that's ALL that everyone can know and think about? Please re-visit how childish you sound in this moment in....1 or 5 years (depending on how physically/mentally mature you are now). You don't even have the guts to stand by your words with your name. You know... after all this, I feel like it's our responsibility as a community to step up and do better. We have to come together and make the change. People need to be leaders and be responsible. And if we do that, the FGC will come out of this stronger and better than it was before Edit: Also, Max? You have no fault in this whatsoever, and I'm sorry you have been let down and hurt so badly. I totally agree. It all kinda looks like shit right now but I know the fighting game community can be one of the best out there, we just have to show them we can do better!
We don't need any of this "I hope things get better." crap. That's lazy talk. Change will only come to those who make it happen, not those who just sit around and "hope".
@@Mikedot Not to be that person, but would you like to share with us what you've started to do then? It's one thing to say something like that, but a completely different thing to actually start acting on it.

There's many but most don't feel as though they desire to because while Max is heavily vocal and appears to be the most transparent, there are many that should also be at least on that platform WITH him.

I had to stop at the 8 minute mark to say this. Whether you read this or not, that's fine. I understand the sentiment at how you feel partially responsible for the events that have occurred, but know that there are people behind you who believe in you. You're not the one at fault here. The community itself needs to step up and place people accountable for every egregious action, friends or not.
I feel for Max Its one of the best people i found on youtube, and he really made me like fighting games Sure i played injustice because i was a DC fan, but finding this channel opened me up to so many games and really made me love fighting games Hes really one of the greatest and he offers a lot to this comunity, glad we have him
Erm no. Max is a pillar in the community. He didn’t speak out before and he knew there were accounts of rape and molested minors. Being quiet is what allows the monsters to continue. So max is responsible, BUT, he is speaking now and he needs to keep speaking up.
Yeah but ; The community is known for antics such as the YT video « the brilliant fighting community » by crowbat. If you haven’t watch it. You should. Events that have come out are a different kind of antics , but that’s just how business is : as usual. FGC isn’t one to show respect

Max, you have no fault in this. You are the reason many of us are here! We all share a connection to fighting games, and video games in general. You've given us a place that feels so genuine. I believe I wont be the only person that feels this way but I legitimately feel that you love the community. Please rest up if you need to.
While I know everyone's down about things, the best way to look at this entire situation is in a positive light rather then a negative light. Exposing people who are engaging in these acts and that are complicit in these acts and cleansing the community of them is great. And with this, we then set a new precedent that this will NEVER be tolerated ever again.

@@merritt2014 Let's just make sure that we are separating the real from the fake. Accountability is one thing for those who are GUILTY. But I hope we take just as much action against those who do fake claims, because just how these pedos, rapists, harassers, etc. ruin the lives of their victims for years, the fake victims who accuse innocent people...the majority of the time, those innocent people can never truly recover what they have lost. So I hope and pray, PRAY this becomes a TRUE balance and I also hope that this is not the start of some type of online vigilanteism to weed out people that are deemed not "fit" for the community (NOT talking about the rapists/pedos/etc)
Nairo broke my heart... I had complete and utter trust in him, and he wound up being someone else completely. Seeing all these people in Smash and the rest of the FGC suffer is heartbreaking. Hopefully we can oust those disgusting people and fix the FGC.
Yendor E. Sniktaw Nairo was in a sexual relationship with CaptainZack (Zack was around 15 at the time while Nairo was around 20-21) and he paid Zack $2000 in hush money to make sure he didn’t spill the beans on their sexual relationship.

From SF2 on my Sega Genesis to MVC2 on my Dreamcast fighting games aren’t going anywhere. I love supporting this channel because it’s a great example of what fighting games represent which is community and fans. As long as we are here canceled tournaments will mean nothing in the grand scheme.

while I went to evo 2014, and fortunately I wasn't preyed on, I didn't find it a rather "welcoming" experience. It was cool, but I felt left out often and alone. The biggest memory I have is me playing Skullgirls with my usual team and their colors and someone coming up to me going "Wait, I reconize that team! You're Kit, aren't you?!". Still gives me a warm feeling. Else, it's just... wished it was a better experience.
I do truly believe that we can rebuild the community into something better, but we need to seriously reflect on how things got to this point & how to prevent it from happening again.
A Competitive League that is run by Maximilian Dood. I'm not a huge fan of competitive (and as many people know, I have voiced my issues with it many times), but this is something I totally would watch.
SBaby I think whatever Evo will become in the future Max should be a consultant of some sorts to make sure nothing like this can happens again. It’s a different thing all together, but in the wargaming community in the UK, by law your required to have a DBS done (basically a background check to see if you’ve got a criminal record) while these checks wouldn’t be useful if someone hasn’t been arrested and convicted of a crime, like a lot of these stories coming out. But it might be better than nothing. This is just an awful situation that’s come out and I feel sorry for anyone who has been effected by these ‘humans’ actions.
It's as simple as what people have been insisting on for years. Cut out the toxic crap, stop treating pro players like that elevates them somehow morally or turns them into role models, and stop supporting the kind of social environment that makes predators feel safe. From this, to Aris, to every other dark stain on FGC history, allllllllllll of that has to stop and go away. Forever. We don't have to stop being rowdy. But there has to be a clear, blatant line you don't cross, and that everyone is going to call out when it gets crossed.
Its a really screwed up time right now. Someone was questioning why some are acting like this is the death of the FGC and not treating it as a cleaning of house. I'll say here what I said to them Its because the person being accused is and has been a tent pole figure in the FGC for decades. People are shocked and confused by this, and see it as the house collapsing, not being cleaned out. BUT Houses can be rebuilt.
This is what brings me back to this channel more than anything. His gameplay is fun yeah, and I can always have a good laugh with most of the content Max makes. But Max is someone who is VERY passionate not only about the games we all play, but it's communities. Max is so human and down to earth, it's nice seeing someone use their platform to speak up about tragic events.
Yeah whatever happened with Evo and Mike Z really screwed the franchise over. I was ready for them to get that new flood attention that this game hasn't even had since 2017.
Max, I will NEVER come to your channel for drama. I come to this channel for two things, watching you play video games, and watching your goofy-ass smiling and laughing and raging at games with your buds or on your own! That will not change, shine on dude!
Amazing how badly you wanted for KI to come back into the FG scene and it finally does in Evo and now you arent supporting it or taking part in it in any way. Really shows how much of a good person you are man. Nothing but respect to you
I feel Max's frustration and anger in this video. Too much crap has been going on behind the scenes, and maybe a bit more and many are not being held accountable. That's even worse for the victims who have suffered. I don't consider myself a FGC competitor, but I do play fighters largely because of my friends and people like Max, but with what's going on recently, I'm not sure I could see myself staying in the scene for the future...
You shouldn't leave the scene just because of some disgusting people, who have been exposed and are being dealt with. Stay in the scene because there's still a lot of good left out there, but bad sticks out a lot more
With the recent shitstorm surrounding the fgc, I still wish you all don't lose your hope in it, and that everyone gets through it. Alot of people are shown their true colors, so it's up to you to look up to others who, you know, don't actually do bad stuff, lol

18:00 This quote, truest words than those don't exist, I agree immensely. The Fighting Game Community and the games played, be it Skullgirls, Super Smash Bros, Street Fighter, whatever else, IT'S NOT ABOUT THE TOP PLAYERS, it never was and never will be. Top Players ruined EVO for this year, but they sure as Hell did not ruin it for the rest of its existence, now we know what they did and they can suffer for the atrocities they commited, and now it's time for new management under the right people and for us as a community to rebuild and reshape things in a brighter light. Unfortunately, people feel betrayed because they looked up to these disgusting predators and I've seen some of those people go as far as giving up on Smash Bros as a whole because of this, it's understandable that you feel betrayed, but don't let that feeling of betrayal stain what you loved to do as part of the community, if you loved Smash Bros and still love it, don't give up on it because some random motherfucker turned out to be the most disgusting monster ever, make it your own journey, play it because you love it.

THIS. I feel people are overblowing this and just blindly act like entire communities of people across the world should be responsible for the actions of a heinous few. What they did is horrible and they should be treated as such; but as we have seen for the past few months, just because one person in a group does something shitty, that is absolutely not an excuse to mindlessly associate the two with each other.

I see no reason the FGC can’t recover. Every sport, every community has their fair share of serious issues and they can bounce back. It is important to spread awareness that evil people exist, but let’s not forget every community even the FGC have people who are not tainted. This was the guy who said DoA 6 didn't represent EVO's Core Values. And now this... You know, I'm going to be among the first people to tell that DoA as a fighting game is really boring to watch despite being fun to play. It's probably too casual-oriented. It doesn't have a huge community and it doesn't get a lot of clicks on streams AND in tournaments. The developers are greedy hacks who essentially ran it to the ground with the monetisation system that even Gacha games would deem too shady. ANYTHING from the list above I would've understood and accepted. But no, this arse had to go and ALLEGEDLY pull off a diet Jimmy Seville after having had that statement issued. Sorry for the rant, but this genuinely angered me.
Yup. Core values man reeeeally showed where his values were by hiding them for years; and promoting an opposite image to mentally compartmentalize it to boot without confronting it.
Sadly, I'm inclined to agree. I loved DoA, but I'm not blind to how stuck the series has been in what I guess could be called its 'adolescent' phase. Like the series was THIS close to growing up, then after the 4th game when Itagaki stepped down as director, Koei Tecmo was like "aight enough of this deep gameplay and competitive spirit, bring on the bikinis and lolis and tiddies! Don't hold back, let's get literally everything from the DoA Extreme games into this, we'll make bank!"
I'm confused, are we talking about Max? Or someone in the DoA community, I apologize I'm not as knowledgeable of this as I've only recently gotten into DoA (friends got me playing the older games)

This is to say that even if the higher up at EVO were predetors I think ultimately the good that EVO and the FGC can do will shine brighter than this low point, and if you are their for the victims and support them and include them once EVO is set right and trustworthy people are in charge I think that will build a stronger more accepting community overall. I really appreciate all you have done to help me through my bad times and as a survivor of abuse myself I think overall fight games have helped me find a community of men and women who make me feel safe overall. I hope the victims feel safe again and we can make sure that EVO comes back stronger safer and better for all races and genders.

How the heck does it not mean jack if the person changed within 20 years? I don't know if the person changed, though if he did change to the point of never doing anything wrong again, then that is something alone.
@@SpaceOmega-zz6vs " if he did change " you just said it yourself. The statement that he "changed" came from the man accused himself, so you can't be sure if the man really did change or that nothing else happened through the years after his first incident, unless the man was held accountable for that incident in the first place, like Max said. The man saying he changed since his first abuse years ago, without accountability or getting his comeuppance, just seems hollow, especially that it took 20 years for the incident too surface and for him to admit to it and apologize.
@@muadibadder3345 Sadly we really don't know, however that doesn't disprove the possibility, and I think it might be possible that we can maybe go further with investigating the person after exposure. I'm mainly saying if as maybe a scenario. I should also point out that being caught later on won't prove change by default either. It's very possible the reason why some people never admit it is due to fear of retribution which is what I consider partly responsible for why some people who still need therapy might not be open about it. Either way I feel that society should at least look further in the claim that someone has changed secretly instead of dismissing it JUST because the person was caught way later.
You say you've had a lot of people tell you that you're the reason that they got into fighting games. If it's OK, I'd like to be another. You got me into fighting games. I have depression and have been dealing with it for a long time (for a good amount of it not even REALIZING it was depression) so fighting games only made me mad. Not just mad, but downright irate, especially when I lost. Controllers got thrown and broken. Depression will do that to some people. I've been on antidepressants for a while and after watching some of your videos saw how much fun you had and was like "This looks hella hype. I wanna try it again." I've had a blast. I still lose more than I win but even if I lose I have a good time and instead of doing what I used to do I reflect on how I lost and what I could do to improve. I still suck but I have gotten better, even had my first rage-quitting opponent the other night in casuals in SFV :P. I guess my Juri's getting legit. What's happened to EVO does suck but I feel that what you've done for this community far outweighs what was taken away here by the offenders, even though what they did was horrific and inexcusable. My condolences and prayers go to the victims of abuse. If you can get my depressed ass into fighting games where I'm actually having fun then you're doing a helluva lotta good IMO. @@rosesongoku6980 That'd be more interesting than all the other shit going on! It's pretty sad for this year when I jokingly think that'd be a better alternative to everything else.
EVO has been cancelled and the Smash community is in shambles on top of all of the stuff that’s happening in the world with the virus and such. It truly is a dark time, 2020. All we can do is stay strong and get through it together, helping each other along the way
While what's happening in the Smash community is hard, I'd rather take it like how Leffen says it: that it's a good day because all of these people are being exposed for some really reprehensible shit. It's uncomfortable, yes, but the truth is that these things do happen and we as a community need to do better for the more vulnerable people of the community.
@@milkywayflea404 True, but Nintendo is gonna step and put an end to this community anyway. We were given too many chances, and now we're probably gonna see this whole community get blacklisted.
Drama like this has been affecting the victims for years. If anything, this helps the victims. It really brings what we love down, but I'm sure it can be fixed and restarted, right? The criminals don't represent community. Communities are better for things like this, letting victims within come out safely and bravely while bringing down those that hurt them, better people just have to step in.
Witch hunts are NOT effective for a community. It breeds an authoritarian mindset where people will use clalout culture to silence people. Sure the "right targets" were made for these accusations (which are still accusations), but to think something like this is perfectly healthy for any kind of community is a huge mistake. What we need is to encourage people to step forward and get these accusations investigated as quickly and as urgently as possible so we can bring justice for these victims. Twitter is not and SHOULD NOT be used as a court, the court of public opinion should not have the final say on who should be or not be allowed in this community. I am glad people like Mr Wizard was extradited from this community, and I'm glad the people who leveraged these accusations had the evidence to back it up, but I fear something like a "ProJared" is going to happen where "victims" come forward, leverage accusations at someone (no matter how big or small), and then 1 month later you come to find all of the information is blatantly false or conveniently cut up to benefit one's narrative. There has to be some middleground that allows victims to come forward but not have to subject the accused to this kind of witch hunt mob mentality until proper evidence is verified. Some sort of action or organization within the FGC that allows them to investigate these claims to provide protection to both the victim and the accused. We are lucky people like Wiz admitted to their criminal act, but not all situations will be this cut and dry.
My girlfriend was raped and she didn’t know what to do, she thought not saying anything would be better for everyone’s sake but I convinced her to do the right thing, not to hide it but to come forward, TO THE COPS. Problem is that no one goes to the police and sometimes these people do it cause it’s the right thing, sometimes they do it for the attention to see others suffer, to entertain themselves. We are at that point where the internet is now judge jury and executioner when it’s not, these situations need to be investigated by professional law enforcement. You never know, sometimes there’s more to the story than we will ever know.
@@ShadowKusano the internet should not be the first place though for making these kinda allegations. For every person that rightfully gets caught there's someone whose career gets ruined because of how easily the mob mentality and court of public opinion operate through the internet.

In my many years being online, I've seen many cases of people or personalities dealing with the repercussions or accusations regarding sexual harassment or anything else as foul. So while I may find it old to hear these stories at this point, I can definitely recognize how horrible of an impact it can leave and this is certainly no exception. While I could just wait and anticipate who is going to be the next sexual predator to be exposed, I'll instead give my hopes and prayers for all the good people to rebuild their communities from the rubble left behind from these tragedies. As for you Max, keep up the good work. You've proven time and time again how great fighting games can be even if I don't really play any of them barring Smash Bros.

I'll always remember my small neck of the woods in the FGC,back when i was playing Street Fighter Online/X-men vs Streetfighter Online around 15 years ago (i think it was) Back in the days where we actually carved out our own Online community, hell, through our donations from our community its how we got a free online version of those games out to the fans back in a time where online fighting was a pipe dream. It was laggy beyond belief but, it was *ours* We were total bros, i had rivalries spanning the globe and 95% of the time after a match we celebrated, and in tourneys, win or lose, truly celebrated the winners, we celebrated how close our matches were most of the time. We lived and breathed it.If we weren't fighting we were on the forums for it, we were making banners and clans and all that good stuff. ....the good old days. I despair for the younger generation and right now, we are going through a dark period. Fighting games always suffered from elitism being toxic but.....this...... Its nearly enough for me, after all these years, to give up. I might watch the odd fight but....i think i'm done, i think i'll just be sticking to watching randoms and Max. I hope we can clear things up in the greater FGC i think we gotta pull together in solidarity against ehats happened and if we can't.....let it crumble to dust.

My favorite wrestler and dream match was David Starr, so I totally get this.
@@ravenfrancis1476 Don't act like I don't know that, man. Dude's shit, needed to be shitcanned. I am just sad about it all. I am not mourning the memory of the man who deserves to be crapped on. And I mourn Sajam's chance of announcing a KI Tourney at EVO.
AlriikRidesAgain My point is that being sad about this stuff is okay, but it’s kinda fucked up to turn this conversation into his sad you are you won’t get to play your video game contests anymore
Joe Francis it’s one among hundreds of comments. He’s not turning the conversation into anything. Let the man be sad about it instead of attacking him. Peace.
I feel for Max
Its one of the best people i found on youtube, and he really made me like fighting games
Sure i played injustice because i was a DC fan, but finding this channel opened me up to so many games and really made me love fighting games
Hes really one of the greatest and he offers a lot to this comunity, glad we have him
True. Some ppl indeed deserved to be cancelled. Just be careful with false accusation and false allegation tho.
@@parrisxsummers Nobody is responsible for anything but their own actions. And while assholes on Twitter assume all accusations are valid the truth is falsely accusing someone is evil, so not saying anything because you're not sure of the veracity or the claims is the moral thing to do.
I brought my son to Evo the first time when Justin Wong reclaimed the mahvel throne I bonded with my son over the hype of jwong taking back the crown it was an amazing experience for the both of us I've went every year since and will miss it this year hopefully it returns next year
Max, you have no fault in this.
Ah yes, where would we be without the warm glow of burning witches to keep us warm at night? This is a happy occasion. Mob justice is always a good thing.
I don't think calling it "great" is right. Necessary but not great. What would be great is if the bad things never happened in the first place.
This will always happen and toxic communities will always happen were kinda fucked
@@GawainSSB Well I mean it's just reality.
Max is a beacon of hope in the FGC, he's truly a beam of light in the darkness. Thank you for being a voice of reason Max.

while I went to evo 2014, and fortunately I wasn't preyed on, I didn't find it a rather "welcoming" experience.
All these sponsors and companies might not want to be associated with the FGC anymore.
Mike Ross was right.
Nope. Impossible. Because humans will always be shit
@@GuiltyKit ok but thats vague, how do we know what is the toxic crap and how does the average person stop that environment
Its a really screwed up time right now.
Someone was questioning why some are acting like this is the death of the FGC and not treating it as a cleaning of house. I'll say here what I said to them
Its because the person being accused is and has been a tent pole figure in the FGC for decades. People are shocked and confused by this, and see it as the house collapsing, not being cleaned out.
BUT
Houses can be rebuilt.

I hate how some people think they know that they know everything about, say a gamer, despite all we know is that they're good at games.
@@Shad809 Unfortunately there are some people who- while not actually committing bad acts themselves- not only turn a blind eye to this sort of thing, but declare it a necessary part of the culture.

Even though my brain and life is irreversibly affected by what happened I would never blame the people who put me their because they were ultimately the people who helped me when I needed it.

@@CC42_ its a 99% failure via twitter almost NO ONE is guilty when accused on twitter but they get their lives ruined anyway by these disgusting inhuman filth that calls its movement metoo.
@@ShadowKusano There are so many stories on Twitter of women coming forward to the cops and then being gaslighted into doing nothing. The cops have proven themselves to be ineffectual in this manner.
Thank you for always keeping your feet on the ground. Even when you’re hyped, even when you’re down and fully emotional, the humanity could use you as an example. Someone who loves a certain thing, and wants to share the good things of your favorite thing, even when others are trying the opposite.
While I am traditionally a viewer of fighting game tourneys, this year I actually decided to participate in the MK11 online one, because why not. But I absolutely agree with cancelling the event this year. Great perspective from Max too, this is why I watch and sub to him, he 'gets' it 👍 shine on Doods, and look after each other
Right in the Core Values!
2020 is the year that just keeps on giving isn't it
And we've only just hit the halfway point
Max being kind of his own category in the FGC may have seemed like he was being a bit aloof before, but it sure looks wise now
Was that when he was talking about separating himself from the main FGC for a few years now? Why exactly did he do that? I’m curious
@@Sora2314 its obvious because he has grown in his endeavors. His streaming career and his job. He could not invest more time into the larger FGC because of his own growth, and he has his own community to attend to. Its a lot of work what he does and time consuming as well
@@caithan Ohh okay I totally get that. For some reason I looked at it as him distancing himself from toxicity in the FGC or something.
I appreciate your honestly and cool headed approach to this. I hate to say this, but this will be a stain on FGC for a while and only time will tell if it can recover from it. Hope I’m wrong, but I also hope those hurt get the help they need.
This has nothing to do with the FGC. The actions of individuals in no way reflect on a community that is simply about the love of fighting games.
@@Silmerano people will still question the FGC community because of this but as long as we band together we can weather this out
Wing ZX1103 controversy never sticks these days. It will hurt things for a while but people will be quick to forget. Blizzard showed that hard with the HK incident.
When Max makes a video on it. U know its serious.
It sucks that all of this has happened, but it sounds like it was long overdue. I hope this makes EVO better and I hope this helps victims get the justice they deserve and I hope it helps people who still are waiting for their justice find the courage to help bring these monsters into the light. The FGC is bigger than EVO, it’s bigger than Mr.Wizard. We will endure. Thank you for being such a positive force in the FGC, Max. Take care man, shine on.
Max looking like the wind got taken out of his sails with a gut punch, and not in a hype kinda way 😔...
It is turning into a rough year. First I lost my grandma then this BS started happening. It really made me angry when Evo and everything else was cancelled. I wish you and the video game community the best Max.
Sorry for your loss. I hope you are doing as well as can be expected.
I'm sorry about your late grandmother. May she rest in peace.
Sorry for your loss.
We lost a family member after the quarantine started due to cancer. Wasn't able to go see him because of the virus. The past twelve months have been complete shit for my family and I. I just hope things start to get better soon.
I'm sorry about your grandma
I did lose her to cancer. Thanks for the blessings.
One of my best friends, when I finally woke up and realized... Yeah I get it man, it's hard, even though I eventually accepted that they have done what they done and used my good name to take advantage of others, it's hard. I couldn't just call the person a rapist for a long time, even though I cut them out of my life, it really takes a mental toll, and takes a while.
You have only ever done good Max and EVO is more than people like Joey.
I know you know it but it needs sayinh-No one thinks you contributed to the evil thats happened.
Going forward i know you'll help those affected and if you carry on with EVO you'll take it beyond the shadow that now looms above it.
I'll always remember my small neck of the woods in the FGC,back when i was playing Street Fighter Online/X-men vs Streetfighter Online around 15 years ago (i think it was)
Back in the days where we actually carved out our own Online community, hell, through our donations from our community its how we got a free online version of those games out to the fans back in a time where online fighting was a pipe dream.
It was laggy beyond belief but, it was *ours*
We were total bros, i had rivalries spanning the globe and 95% of the time after a match we celebrated, and in tourneys, win or lose, truly celebrated the winners, we celebrated how close our matches were most of the time.
Maybe the real EVO is the friends we made along the way.
But we didnt, quarentine remenber
a great way of putting it my friend
and it's true
even if you don't go to EVO you are a part of a massive family
and seeing one of our member's go out and do something like this isn't something we can forgive them for
I was looking forward to this video. Max's opinion is valued by many, including myself.
