Finding Antonio and Nydia reminded me of our surf trips crossing the Texas/Mexico border. Went to college in Kingsville,TX primarily so we could camp and surf on the weekends at Port Isabel/South Padre Island. Dozens of our friends and fellow Houstonians did the same. Slipping into Mexico and shopping and dining/partying in Matamoros was easy peasy back in the day (early to mid 70s). When the waves were subpar at S. Padre, we would paddle across the channel to Boca Chica and pick up some waves there. Boca Chica is now the site for Elon Musk’s Space X. My my my. How the times have changed! Sitting back and relaxing while watching your Mexican adventures. It’s a beautiful country. 😎✌️🤙🤘😎 🏄🏻♂️🏖
woah I never knew about that area thanks for putting it on the map for us!!!! Maybe we'll get there one day. Our time with Antonio and Nidia was something special, glad it brought back memories!
Kevin, that nice man on the Baja California Sur checkpoint...he wished you a good trip, that is “buen viaje” 😉. He said “adelante (go ahead), “buen viaje” (have a good trip)
You’re experiencing at El Cactus is what we have experienced over the past many years in our travels. People are extremely friendly, warm, and embracing. People touch our hearts constantly when we travel in almost every country, perhaps with the exception of one. Thanks!
all those rv's are what we call here in Australia, 'Grey Nomad's', they're retired oldies and April to October they head away from the humid heat and go to the cooler places, hence they're going back to the USA as Mexico is going to get hot, hot, hot...lol! In Australia ours go from the North to the South and in reverse, with months, from October to April, so now ours are heading North to the top end where there's no winter and the summer heat has dissipated.
@@MathersOnTheMap I was wondering what that term referred to, it sounds like it is referring to young women (birds) who head to the snow for snow activities...lol

Hi guys ! I’ve been following you and I live just outside Todos Santos and if you looking for surf and great beaches look at heading to the east cape, that’s where the surf is this time of year and lots of beach camping. Hope to see you in the water.
That fish carcass at 16:43 is a Trigger Fish. If you see someone catch one ask them to show you how the trigger works on the fish- its in the dorsal fin.
I've done this route many times . I just started my new van build and hope to make my way south real soon. Thanks for sharing your travels and sharing what you learn. Videos are great and never dull. Very entertaining
You are making me reconsider traveling to Mexico or at least to Baja Mexico. Looks like a fun place so far. I have watched a lot of RUclips channels who have loved it there. It looks safer than most of the northern cities in the USA now. Always a thumbs up 👍
It’s stunningly beautiful down here!! The water on the sea of Cortez side is sooo blue, the food is delicious, and surf is also pretty fun!! We are loving it for sure!! Definitely recommend checking it out!
Oh man this is so great. You are going to all the places we miss so much! I don't know if you are still there or not but enjoy Baja! It is a magical place.
Great video guys! The views are incredible! And thank you for providing details around the ins and outs of getting around down there. Very helpful for folks going for the first time.
I just wanted to let you know at least in America always tried to fuel on the car side because when you fuel on the truck side you pay Road tax a higher tax have fun guys
@@MathersOnTheMap Ah thx tons very helpful. I watched your other Baja episodes as Sue and I are definitely doing that trip and so trying to build up our knowledge - love the water fill factoids - fortunately we have a split pressure and gravity fill - we often boondock in the US so the largest Lifestraw filter plus the gravity fill is the bomb.
I know you aren’t in the snow anymore, but did you ever run into power issues while in the winter areas? We are building a van to take on snowboarding trips for a month or so at a time. Just wondered if the grey/snowy days had a noticeable impact on your solar production. We are planning on a 600ah lithium system that should be enough to last us through winter storms etc.
I only have 300ah Battle Born batteries and I've only used mine for skiing so far (just finishing my build), I'm on day 122 skiing this season and most have been day trips but I did go on a couple week trip and I hardly ever went under 90%, and all I have is 175 watt Zamp Solar panel and mine also charge off the alternator too. Good Luck on your build!!
So when I was sailing in Baja, a local told us the road blocks we primarily for north bound travelers because 6 or 7 years ago the caught drug smugglers using the highway in Baja to get Central American drugs to the US. Not sure why they stopped you heading south.
You guys are killing it!! Thanks for all the great info, our next trip was going to be to Alaska but now we might consider heading down to Baja right after ski season!! We used to always use those Costco beach chairs then we switched to chairs that fit into a bag, easier to carry, they take up less room and they're more comfortable!! These are the ones we use, www.rei.com/product/847136/rei-co-op-camp-x-chair

Good to know Bill! Too bad in Baja diesel is always separated 👎🏻
How did you do for DEF for the van - did you bring it with you or could you get it fairly easily in Baja
Definitely bring it, not sure if you saw our crossing the border episode but it’s hard to find and more expensive

No issues ever between solar and isolator we were good. We only have 300ah of lithium too. 600!!! You can go forever

Did you solve your water problem? Your vans a diesel correct?
Yep just made it a gravity fill super easy
What was stopping it from filling.
Not enough pressure for the pressure fill to open
