Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another ABBA reaction with the song "Dum Dum Diddle." ABBA brings out the heavy synths, keys, bass, and crazy strings in this all go out fiddle. It's a folksy song about a man infatuated with his violin, that he leaves his own woman in the dust. I love this song, I don't know why a lot of people hate it, for me is so great de build of chords, and the voice (Frida and Agnetha singing together are ONE voice), the synths, everything is great here

Finally an ABBA reaction. I've already thought, you have forgotten them. There are still so many songs missing. Bang-A-Boomerang is such a happy song, you can see that they had a lot of fun in the official video. But also "Tiger", "Tropical Loveland", "Intermezzo No. 1" or "Lovelight" for example are great songs you haven't done until now. So I hope they will get a reaction soon. :D Btw. Dereck, I have read you were in Hawaii last week, so what about reacting to their song "Happy Hawaii"?

For some reason a lot of people seem to hate this song. I think it's fun and sweet. And VERY catchy.

Folksy track "When You Dance With Me" from their latest VOYAGE album is in the same vein,though more "Irish flavoured".

@@dorojessy6932 Yeah i was also thinking about this too,but i didn't mention it, cause despite it having some folk-ish and relevant chorus in the melody's soundscape,it's verses are rather dark and the whole mood (lyricwise,) is even darker.But folksy scented too.DDD is far more carefree,WYDWM more romantic/tranditional,TP more "wintery", sophisticated and kind of "rennaisanse-gothic-folk",lol!.Abba's multicolored music tapestry was never indifferent.Thank Doro Jessy for commenting on this.

Frida voice leads in many many songs, what they sing together.
I have always loved this song. Lots of ABBA fans do not have a very good opinion of this song and I never understood why. The melody is amazing, the synths are so good and of course Frida and Agnetha kill it with amazing vocals and harmonies. I’ve never understood the negative comments about the lyrics. While I agree the title is odd when just taken at face value, within the context of the song, which is cleverly told and easily understood, it works because of the brilliant arrangement which I can imagine must have been a Benny tour-de-force given the full sound with amazing strings, synths, keyboards as well as portions with acoustic guitar. It’s a perfect example of ABBA at their full on, all-in, creative peak. ❤️ABBA❤️
Doesn't matter if the lyrics are a bit "tedious".It's cute,naive and charming and it's recording construction is of a dead serious hard work. I mean c'mon!we gotta "pour some sugar" to this life.
Benny loved string Swedish folk music and been inspired by this, so that we can see its brilliant exposure.
Both Agnetha and Frida took lead vocals in this track.
Easy to hear in the intro. The structure of this song is fairly similar to Hep Stars song "Wedding" which he wrote with singer Svenne Hedlund, all though that leans more to classical direction.
There is a live version of this song from a swedish TV show, called Abbadabbadoo .

The girls sing together on the song. There is a live version from Abba dabba doo where Frida sings much louder than Agnetha.
The live version is worth hearing, gives even more of a folk sound.
Ear candy. Love the synth/pop/folk sound of this track, the melody, and exuberance in Anni-Frid and Agnetha's vocals.
ABBA's earcandy gem from ARRIVAL album.Crystal clear unison.Like spring(Agnetha) meeting the summer(Frida).The folkie synth sound is reminiscent of Scottish bagpipe.Benny was such a keyboard freak he could make music on everything he laid his hands on..There's an anegdote saying that he once attacked... a giant tiramisu tart cake missunderstanding it for Yamaha's new keyboard!Thanx for this reaction.This "unserious" song always make my day and this is more serious in todays misery,to make someone smile and feel happy even just for a while.Abba does that to me for sure,very easily.
I wish I was in a position to hear ABBA songs for the first time, but I’ve heard every song I ever made in multiple languages and I own most of them anyway and have for decades. Voyage was an absolute delight, as I got to hear new music from them.
Even on the lesser favourite ABBA songs, there is always something that is admirable. And it is usually those stellar voices working together. The lyrics might be weak or the theme of the song can be daft but the dual vocals and backing harmonies are superb.

There is an actual live performance of this song out there. I want to say it's from their Abba dabba doo special. I'm not quite sure but it's actual live vocals and instruments, it's really good.
One of Abba's best musically but with silly lyrics......I still love it and never skip it.

For some reason this song is generally not very liked by the fans, but it's in my top 10 lol, I love it dearly, it's so bubbly, stardusty, and they have a lot of energetiv vocals throughout the song. I love that when the bass is introduced, it sounds similar to when the bass is introduced in Money, Money, Money.

I really like the song. It manages to rhyme smiling with violin, and to include the phrase 'dum dum diddle'. Not a good move on the surface but actually this is all part of the Abba charm - the earnestness in the approach bordering on naivety, the superb musicianship and the fantastic singing. It's catchy, fun and musically very sophisticated. High marks - one of my favourites. Listening to it tonight, it occurs to me that this is a prequel to "When You Danced With Me". Similar Scottish/Irish vibe and a sense of regret, clearly much more keenly felt in When You Danced With Me. Welcome back to Abbaville Derek!

This is one of my favorite ABBA songs ever. It's very underrated. To those who hate this track, I'm sorry that I can't relate to being fat.
Love this song and I do love your reactions to all of your ABBA reviews - you're really in the groove and why not? ABBA's music has such a hypnotic, happy affect on the soul - their music is absolute perfection and that is why they've been so successful. ABBA never wrote a bad song; some songs were very underrated such as "My Love, My Life", "That's Me", "I've Been Waiting For You" and "Hasta Manana" which should've have been massive hits like "Dancing Queen" nevertheless. "When I Kissed The Teacher" on the ARRIVAL album is also a very catchy melody and Frida's and Agnetha's vocals towards the end of the song are just out of this world - you won't be disappointed.

Another amazing Abba reaction video Dereck! I've always felt that it's one of the stronger tracks on the Arrival album but the title and lyrics sadly has seen the song be dismissed by some over the years. According to Carl Magnus Palm's "The Complete Recording Sessions" Abba had booked studio time to record Dum Dum Diddle and the night before Bjorn was still struggling to come with the lyrics. When he finished them early the next morning he didn't think the other 3 would like them but they thought they were good enough!
Also Benny's synth slays on this one and it was one of the first songs he used his Polymoog synth on and which was also his main synth until the Voulez-Vous album.
Glad you're checkin' out all these ABBA recordings. Benny plays clavinet real funky, on "Man In the Middle," and Frida brings it strong and sensual in "Tropical Loveland." Both, from the ABBA (1975) album, would rock your dial, man!
This has always been my favourite little short Abba folk-pop song. Even from silly lyrics they be able to come up a catchy pop-song. Don't know why Björn almost shame this?? Never thought You could give Approval for this song? :)

So nice to put the link.This is a fine live version where the girl's voices sound less polished than the audio but really beautiful,tuneful and with a "'70s hi;fi stereo quality" appeal and a lovely drumming sound.Bjorn's backing harmonies also support so distinctively F's+A's Lead.And i also love the "white way" they look.Such a beautiful sight.

You should do ABBA’s Two For the Price of One from The Visitors album. Not only is it a song about a guy getting two call-girls for a threesome, the vocal layering in the chorus is AMAZING and the song is great!

Not one of their best, but still miles above the majority of music at the time. It's extremely silly, but also supremely catchy.
Have a listen to Lay All Your Love On Me. It's a combination of haunting synth done to a dance-beat with Agnetha's voice enhanced to sound like a choir singing. It's a really great, catchy and unusual song. Love me some ABBA!
