My family refuses to buy me video games anymore. They say I’m too obsessed... so on Black Friday I went out and bought myself all the games I wanted. :) great video!
Dude, Hollow Knight... you can buy it in the eshop for 15 Edit: I didn't know this video was about physical games. But games like Hollow Knight or Celeste are really good, so if you want to gift someone a good game for cheap, maybe consider one of these :p
It’s because Nintendo doesn’t allow developers to make their digital downloads cheaper than physical games so the prices have to be higher to compensate for the production of physicals
@@DanielKirkwoodVideo So far it has been my favorite Square Enix Jrpg, or just Jrpg in general. But yeah, Primrose and Cyrus's stories are very mature.

But it's a free game, so of course you can download it with no problem (playing it online does not need any subscription either). I personally find, if you want a 3rd party developer game to have some variaty, Rocket League a very fun online game. Lord Nikon Haha, nice! Great elections you made there. I forgot Pokemon, it's a great game. Even better if you enjoy the saga. Just make sure you let your kids play cause you'll get hooked too as soon as you prove the console! Have a nice Christmas.
I know this video isn't about it but: I would have mentioned that many (indie) games are cheaper digitally, so it would be a good set to gift a 30-60 bucks eshop card so that they can get multiple games, which they want. (Both Owlboy and Undertale for example.)
@@jesusramirezromo2037 Undertale and Owlboy are almost half the price on the eShop. Works just as well if not better since you have them in the system at all times. Maybe slip in a little image of the game you had in mind them using the eShop card on?
The problem with the Switch is the price of games. Even the games that considered must-haves are $60 and up. Then you have ports like Doom and Wolfenstein II still at $60 but can be bought for other systems fir as little $15. I have multiple systems so I tend to buy games that are cheap for older systems first and wait for price drops. The Switch doesn't do "price drops". I do love the system though.
@@MrStevo1804 Well it may not be to you... Consider some of the base, a lot includes kids or young teens who dont have access to the funds, and then young adulta who may have part time jobs may see it as a lot.. its dependent on the type of person.
Check out enter the gungeon Its less than $15 and it has endless replayability But its pretty Damn hard and it takes a pretty long time to learn but its 100% worth it
@@NailujG it's always been that way, if anything it's more affordable with income streams and everything being that price for technology. My dad had an NES when he was a kid - he only had Donkey Kong because they couldn't afford anything else, and $60 for games has always been that way, ever since the PlayStation days and probably sooner, the market hasn't changed, it's as fair as it's always been - if not more so because games have even higher production costs and much more in them than they used to - compare all Zelda titles, their gameplay, and cost on release for an example.
@@MagicCookieGaming No i understand that, im not saying its unfair, its pretty understandable that prices stay the same, i was just trying to make the point that everyone will have a different mindset in terms of their purchases.
@@Myjacob99 minecraft, smash, odyssey, crash bandicoot, Pokémon sword. I then got animal crossing launch day, Mario kart in June and splatoon 2, Pokémon let’s go eevee, and super Mario 3D all stars this Christmas :)

BUY SMASH ULTIMATE, MARIO ODYSSEY AND ZELDA BREATH OF THE WILD, MAYBE SPLATOON 2 AND MARIO KART. THEY ARE THE BEST GAMES ON THE CONSOLE. EDIT: by Nintendo.
I wish there were more mainstream games, even non Nintendo mainstream games. I am a little tired of all the overwhelming “meh” indie games. Don’t get me wrong, Axiom Verge was fun but still nothing beats a good big budget game
Again, *DO NOT BUY XENOBLADE 2: TORNA THE GOLDEN COUNTRY BEFORE PLAYING XENOBLADE 2* . It contains MASSIVE Spoilers for the main game and can RUIN your experience!
It's still pretty retro-niche though. I love it to bits, but I could see someone thinking that this game is lame, especially someone from the younger audience.
I think he touched on those in his last holiday video, so he didnt mention them here. Mario Kart is a real no brainer, especially if theres more than one person to enjoy the console!
@@Neon_Umbreon I think that was a quick recap for the absolute must haves. For a 1 player video game, mario kart doesn't hold up as well as those. But everyone should at least try those games.
" Ōkami " ( 大神 ) is on Switch and it only costs around 20 bucks. Definitely would be on the Mid price Must get list. If you guys don't know Ōkami I highly encourage everyone to check it out. It is a HD version of the original game which was released more than10 years ago but again, good games never get old. If you enjoy beautiful Japanese calligraphy style art work, you will dig it hard.
Definitely a game you should get. I understand how it can also be boring, i do still like the style of Twilight Princess, which was the first Zelda game I played and still my favourite even though it isn’t open world really
@@murabito4699 well that's good then :) I can see the appeal 100% and it is a good game. It just wasn't what I was looking for at the time of purchase as I wanted a more tradional jrpg to sink my teeth into. I will buy it again as it should be in my collection (same with oddesy) but not until it gets cheaper.
For all the grandparents, parents and older people watching this video (probably none) just buy ur kids eshop or gamestop gift cards. That way they can pick out their own games.
Unless your absolutley sure that the person wants a certain game then you really shouldn't get them a game because gamers are verry particular about the games they play and what's the point in buying them a game if there not going to play. Most of the games I've gotten as gifts just sit on a shelf
I'd say It really depends on the person receiving the gift. I'm a 90's kid and I've been playing games for as long as I can remember. Most of my games, I would buy myself using money I saved from my allowance and what have you. However, my parents bought me several games in the PS1 era that would have never been on my radar otherwise. Front Mission 3, Air Combat, Wipeout XL and Chrono Cross. They ended up being some of my favorite games on the PS1, and the main things that really pulled me into their respective genres. Air Combat (1995) introduced me to the Ace Combat franchise (which I never miss a new release for now). I definitely wouldn't love mech games, or turn based strategies as much as I do if my dad hadn't bought Front Mission 3 for my 11th birthday. I sunk hours into Chrono Cross and it put the original Chrono Trigger on my radar( I never owned a SNES). That's part of what I looked forward to when I saw a familiar looking shape (a game case) in wrapping paper. What will the game be. Sure not every game I got as a gift was as amazing as those games, but I had fun playing so many games.
I get what you're saying on kirb, but it did just get a big (free!) update that adds even more content that's actually pretty difficult! I think if the person you're buying for is a kirby fan, they'll enjoy the game ^_^
It’s a really fun game. I just got it Black Friday so it was only $30, and I felt that was well worth that price. I assume you could get the game cheaper than $60 so it should be on worth it.
Skyrim costing $60 when it’s a last gen game that’s over 7 years old, is bullshit. I get that it costs money to port, but its a drop in the bucket compared to it’s original budget. Bethesda has milked that game as much as any game in history. I almost bought the VR version, but then thought better of playing 100 hours with the headset on. Plus....$60 even fir a VR version is crap.
I wish that Nintendo games dropped in price after a few months like other consoles, I would buy more games and essentially more money overall if they actually went on sale. In Australia the standard price for a Switch game is $89 or $79 and it never gets any cheaper
Cannibal Raptor I agree. I only pay full price for either very special games, or a series that is very important to me. Basically not that often. I bought a PS4 a couple of months ago, and so far have already bought like ten games, and haven’t payed more than $20 for any of them. All of them are +80 rated games with four of them +90. Thats just Nintendo, they’ve always been like that. An oddly conservative corporation, but they are still around and still doing very well in the market, so I guess they know what they’re doing. I bought both my kids two games and a pro controller each for Xmas.....and it was like $350!!!!!! Thats terrible!!!!
What do you think of my game list *The Legend Of Zelda botw *Super Mario Party *Super Mario Oddyssey *The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim *Pokémon Lets Go Eevee *Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle
I think that recovering Splatoon 2 might have been necessary after the release of Nintendo Switch Online. Unless the person has Nintendo Switch Online or you are planning to buy it alongside the game, it's not worth it. You can't play the online multiplayer for it without the Online service, and the online multiplayer is about half of the game. Of course, you can get a solid single-player experience if you get the main game AND the Octo Expansion DLC, but without the online multiplayer, what is the point of unlocking that Octoling form? You can't show it off without having the service. Now, getting just the main game is okay. The Octo Expansion isn't required to have a good time, but with the 80 levels it provides, it gives a better single-player experience than the main game alone. Tl;DR Splatoon 2 isn't worth it without the new Nintendo Switch Online.
You probably won't read this, but I love your energy dude.. You have a genuine passion for the console and it's titles. In a world full of marketing, and sponsors; it's refreshing to see. *Subscribed* PS: The fact you missed Stardew Valley, hurts my soul

warframe released over 5 years ago on more powerful platforms Nintendo shouldn't just port games for the sake of it even if it is free it is a good game though minus the graphics downgrade to satisfy the switches weak graphical capabilities
Aaron Chapman why are you hating on Nintendo so much? The game still looks great, plays great and just generally is great. And it isn’t even Nintendo who chose to port it over. It was the original developers so don’t give so much hate to nintendo.
Wood Hawker, hello my name is Ranger. I'm a gamer in my 30s and recently I was considering buying Nintendo Switch so I looked it up on youtube and I found your channel. I have since subscribed and watched all of your videos. The other day I took the plunge with all of the Switch knowledge you have kindly provided and I purchased the Mario Kart bundle along with Street Fighter 30th anniversary edition. I'm in love with this system and plan to collect as many games as possible. Thank you for all the awesome news and content you provide and I wish you success with your channel. I feel like I know you even tho we never met. I felt so sorry for you during the flooding of your house and the trying time you had to indure while growing up. Anyways I look forward to seeing more videos in the future. Thanks again so much. You have motivated an individual from across the seas (I'm from Ireland) to buy the Nintendo Switch.
Dude, I love the effort and energy you put into your videos. Thank you for the excellent content and I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas! :)
Tbh, when I played the Octopath demo, I loved the combat system, but I sorta knew if it didn’t change up in some way, I’d get bored. Now I have one job, and have finally realized that the reason I never really want to play the game is because the combat system is WAY TOO REPETITIVE, and sorta regret buying it. I am only in chapter 2, but feel like I have already experienced the entire game. Should I keep going, or does the combat just stay boring and repetitive?
Henrik Myrhaug it’s all about the stories but I personally like turn-based combat so the battles were fine to me. You get to have 2 jobs for each character at some point and the difficulty ramps up and you’ll need each character to have skills from multiple jobs (you can master all the jobs which each character and use any passive skills you want no matter which 2 jobs you give a character) and then near the end there are 4 specialist jobs that you have to beat bosses to get that are very powerful I’m telling you though, those stories are excellent. I put over a 100 hours into it, I want to say 120 hours iirc. I’d get through a chapter and then get all other characters through the chapter too, for each chapter, so it’d change it up and you can decide who you like best. One you totally finish (chapter 4 maybe) the character’s story you picked at the beginning, you no longer have to keep them in your party. The final chapters can range from heartwarming to heartbreaking. Definitely use a wiki for job info.

I want a new Castlevania game, there must be some hype for a new game after the Netflix series and the characters in smash bros. I also hope before Metroid Prime 4 comes out that they release the trilogy remastered on Switch. Like they did a perfect job for the Wii and they can definitely keep the motion controls because those made those games even better
Pie Studios it’s expensive to print cartridges and Nintendo demands cartridges for their games. Usually if the game is not full priced, the developer can’t make a lot of money
I spent over 50 hours before I beat the storyline, thats the beauty of the game. You can just breeze through it and get the easy stuff, or you can challenge yourself along the way, and its just as (if not more) engaging. allows for any level of gamer to enjoy it! Also, I dare you to go back and try to get more power moons!
With all due respect but for someone who still has to buy a Switch out there, get Zelda on it instead of Mario Odyssey. This is just my opinion though so choose whichever u want but... while playing Odyssey it felt like the only thing I was really ever doing was collecting moons. Despite some fun minigames and the great exploration, it just didnt give me that feeling of having genuine fun. I much prefer the 2D mario games over the odyssey one just because odyssey doesnt feel like a mario game, it should've been something entirely different. Whereas zelda BOTW was my first zelda game ever and it didnt bore me ever, not even after 100 hours of gameplay, there was sooooo much to do and soooo much to explore, that game deserves to be #1 for the Switch. I would take it over odyssey anytime.
I don't know, I think it was pretty much a list of the Switch's biggest name titles everyone knows about, but not necessarily the best. Some of these are, in my opinion, poor representations of their franchises (Mario Party, Mario Tennis Aces, and according to a lot of people, Let's Go). I would have preferred his input on games he liked that went under a lot of people's radars. For example, I think two games that deserve more attention and are relatively cheap are Penguin Wars and Grip.
Smash Ultimate does have a fighting aspect, but it doesn't have to be like that. Think of it as a platformer with a lot of characters and stages to choose from, and a lot of characters have different abilities to throw your opponent off the stage. It's actually a lot different from your generic fighter. Everybody loves Smash Bros. for it's crossover charm and different gameplay mechanics that stands out from other fighters.
Legendary Behemoth I don’t know anyone getting Smash because I don’t know anyone with a Switch. I’m getting it though because i loved the Wii game but not the WiiU and this seems to be better than both
@@TheLegendarybehemoth even if you don't like fighting games, you should buy Smash Ultimate. After all, it's not a fighting game. Also, you need more friends.

My dad got me a switch on Black Friday 2 days after my 12th birthday. Best Buy was packed. The switch would usually be 300 dollars and Zelda Botw would be 50 but it was only half price. The console was 150 dollars and Zelda BOTW was only 25 dollars. Good deals.
@@Djolicoeur012 hahaha - maybe I do. It is just so fun to break the game and every run is different. Plus daily challenges. Getting every ending with every character on hard mode and greedier is very challenging. But you have to like twin stick shooters to really sink that much time into it. It also is perfect for the switch because you can pick it up and do a run pretty fast.
Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, Mariokart 8 are all must have definite yeses. Mario Tennis Aces - Depends, if the person likes fun multiplayer games to play with others, or likes Nintendo stylized sports games sure, if not, pass. Mario Party - Yes and No. for $60 it’s a bit of a rip off, but it can be fun with friends and family. If you find it $40 or below go for it, but for full price I’d say nah. Pokémon Let’s go - No. I personally think it’s overpriced for what it is, and save your money and expectations of a Pokémon game for 2019 when the good one releases. Let’s go is just a little teaser. Smash ultimate - YES. Hands down best switch game of 2018, get it now, worth the price it’s great and probably the 3rd best switch title to release so far.

Currently hollow knight is 50 euro on amazon 😥
I wish I knew how hard hollow knight was before buying, I really regret the purchase.
I know this video isn't about it but: I would have mentioned that many (indie) games are cheaper digitally, so it would be a good set to gift a 30-60 bucks eshop card so that they can get multiple games, which they want. (Both Owlboy and Undertale for example.)
Gift cards are a bad gift
It usually means you dont care enough to find something the other person buys
Jesus Ramirez Romo I always get gift cards for Xmas and bday from my family :(
@@jesusramirezromo2037 or it means the other person asked for a gift card.
@@joppuh I asked for gift cards and actual gifts. Covering all my bases.
Yea thing is nintnendo wont, i just a watched a vid on why that is. Pretty interesting but yea unfair.

But its pretty Damn hard and it takes a pretty long time to learn but its 100% worth it
@@NailujG it's always been that way, if anything it's more affordable with income streams and everything being that price for technology.

This is great, I’ve been researching so much in order to get my boyfriend the best Switch games for Christmas. This helps me out so much!
Unless your absolutley sure that the person wants a certain game then you really shouldn't get them a game because gamers are verry particular about the games they play and what's the point in buying them a game if there not going to play. Most of the games I've gotten as gifts just sit on a shelf
@@JP-it9vc what's the point in getting someone a video game as a gift if there never going to play it. You might as well just save your money
Yup, that’s why gift cards are great
Most of the games I get I like :) but now that I’m older people are more confused about what games I want
Rule 1: Don't buy anything related to Fortnite.

Kevin Harris you can get it on the shop for $30 right now
I wish that Nintendo games dropped in price after a few months like other consoles, I would buy more games and essentially more money overall if they actually went on sale. In Australia the standard price for a Switch game is $89 or $79 and it never gets any cheaper
Ezra Bagel thanks, I’ll check it out.

Right now I think octopath is my favorite game of this year. But I am ashamed to admit I still haven’t beaten all 8 stories
@@HenrikMyrhaug look for 2nd jobs and more characters.
Henrik Myrhaug the chapter 4s get a lot more exciting and difficult, also the super jobs are a ton of fun to play with

Hey great list please do a video for digital only games.
14:57 The PS4 & Xbox physical copies of fortnite actually do have the disc, it's just the switch version for some reason
Pie Studios it’s expensive to print cartridges and Nintendo demands cartridges for their games. Usually if the game is not full priced, the developer can’t make a lot of money
I received Mario Odyssey for Christmas and beat it that day...
Rip
Sounds like you skipped a ton.
I have 80 hours and around 800 moons. It's more fun if you actually play the whole game..
Hmm...it took me 25 hours to beat the base game, and I still have some moon stuff to do and missed some stuff along the way.
I beat Zelda in one day. It took me 36 hours.
So true
I finally bought myself the legend of zelda😍 i got it for 50€ and i can't stop playing it. I'm so happy
PLEASE do this for PS4, it would be a huge help!
You can get almost any one year old game for 20 € or less on ps4. Just buy all the games you like after checking out the rating on metacritic.

I've been a Nintendo fan forever, but never a Smash fan. Some people just don't like fighties.
@@lexavul Not everyone loves Smash though, no one I know with a Switch is planning to get it.
@@TheLegendarybehemoth It's whatever though, I forgot that even though we're all the same humans, we all might not have the same opinion.
Thank you for this list. I just bought overcooked 2 on sale at $20, and this video brought me to purchase Undertale also on sale at $15. Enough games to keep me (and my two kids) busy till next sale.
I'm watching this because the Nintendo Switch Lite was recently announced.
ChrisCa1601 please dont buy smash if your gunna play online. You will be laggy af ruining gameplay experience
No word on Paw Patrol On A Roll?
wood has clearly been paid off. no list is complete with paw patrol on a roll
@@kirestus Well I guess there aren't many complete lists then either, because I have found VERY few reviews of the game, and I can't be the only parent out there considering it as a gift this year! Even metacritic hasn't found enough reviews to form an agrogate score on ANY platform for Paw Patrol: On a Roll!
If it is any consolation, i own all 3 consoles, but me, my little brother, and my little sister all have switches, my sister is 7, watches paw patrol on tv all the time and loves the game to death, i do not know however how good it actually is
Paw patrol paw patrol looking out for trouble chase.
Barry Wade get smash bros ultimate. it’s the game everyone all ages is playing. it’s packed in with loads of content
I have no clue if you’ll read this but your channel kept popping up on my recommended to watch thing for like a week. I finally click on you and I pick this video because my mom is actually getting me the switch for christmas (she wanted to get me exactly what I wanted this year so she just flat out asked me haha) anyways, this really helped me out personally and now I can send her this video and see if she’ll purchase me legend of zelda BOTW and smash bros. I really am looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Wood!! Are you ready for dragon quest builders 2 on the 20th???
Nasson it’s the Japanese release on the 20th. The English version should be early next year fingers crossed. I can’t wait tho 😍
Speedmarx region free Bay beeee!!!!
Nasson lol you gonna play in Japanese? I’m tempted I have to say 😂😂😂
Speedmarx YUP! Rosetta Stone if I have too. LOL.
7:45 DIE AHHH BUH LOW? Da hekk mate?!
This video is so so helpful and in depth. Thank you so much
“It’s a really quality kit”

*”ITS A BUNCH OF CARDBOARD”*
Kinda contradicted yourself there 😂
Nice video!
All games ive got: odyssey, bandicoot, mario tennis, mario party, captain toad, smash bros and im guessing mario kart and splatoon were on last year so yes😂 i made good choices
It's Wardy u need Zelda
Ryan Flynn I know but i think I need more storage
It's Wardy Zelda is the best!!!!!!!!! I have never had so much fun in any game ever, besides halo
It's Wardy just by a 256 gb San disk
@@almostgreatnate7444 feels hollow compared to their previous zelda titles though I thought, I missed water/fire/light/dark temple and big dungeons only the divine beasts were close to old zelda style puzzles. the shrines needed to be bigger, 2-3 puzzles per shrine would of been the best game ever made imo.
My dad got me a switch on Black Friday 2 days after my 12th birthday. Best Buy was packed. The switch would usually be 300 dollars and Zelda Botw would be 50 but it was only half price. The console was 150 dollars and Zelda BOTW was only 25 dollars. Good deals.
The only game I go back to time after time after time is..The binding of Isacc
800 hrs of replayability.
Ugh...still dont understand the appeal of that game.

@Monika if you love oversexualization and jrpg then sure
I wanted let's go for a mindless play though, but yes zelda is a game I'm getting soon. Just don't have time for it now.
KMichelle Argus you got let’s go before Zelda? Are you crazy?

Holey Crap, I remember watching you with MJR months back and your subs have skyrocketed. The quality of this video shows why! Great vid, will be referencing this as I got a switch for Christmas :)
Just woke up thx for the great vid
If you’re looking for a relatively cheap game, get Undertale, it’s just amazing........
thank you so much.. been here searching before buying my switch for 2-3 hours of games and stuff. thank you so much for the best guide on the games ;D cheers mate
and the one with fortnite.. man thank you! haha
Kudos for mentioning Civilization VI
i want new joycons for chrismas
Same my left one is going out I don’t know why
@@cookiocooky my left one has a drifting issue
Mine doesn’t want to hold in place so if I’m walking somewhere in a game I’ll stop and go and stop and go lol it’s annoying
GamingrockFTW Same mine don’t work I’m stuck with a pro controller till Christmas
My left joy con drifted too, but remember if it came with your switch purchase its under 1 year warranty, so it can be fixed
1:56 wood: shows Mario odyssey and breath of the wild and says you can’t have a switch without these two
me: what about smash
Edit: I watched some more and then I found out he remembered about smash
Pick up Valkyria Chronicles 4!
Second this. The first one is also great and a lot cheaper at $19. Also 4 has a playable demo and my experience lasted 6 hours... holy cow a 6 hour demo definitely worth checking it out
Why is it snowing in your house? I think you’ve got bigger problems than video games.
Watching all these videos in December of 2020. Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah people!
Starlink is a must buy over Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? in what world...
1:57 have both of those hehe
Super helpful! I'm getting my self a switch for Christmas with the obviously the new smash bros game. Other good games I wasnt sure. Good stuff man
"What to AVOID" avoid paying full price always.
