    This is a well made tool , not to be compared to fashion watches . I use my Sinn’s for their intended purpose and they have lasted decades without fail . I have had water leaks on Breitlings and Seiko’s to the point where they were not worth servicing .

    I feel the opposite way about this watch, but I appreciate your unfiltered thoughts. If we all felt the same way about watches, we would all own the same ones and have nothing to talk about. I feel that the stiff, solid bezel is a good match for this watch and really like how there is absolutely no play. I also like having a top-grade Sellita as opposed to an in-house caliber in a tool watch like this. I am not bothered about the power reserve and actually prefer 40 hours to 70 to reduce unnecessary wear on the movement when not worn. My BB58 with a 'nicer' movement has been sent in for warranty repair twice in the last 8 months. The Tudor has a signficantly better bezel but I like everything about the package of the Sinn (including the clasp because although it is very dated, it is not oversized like a lot of more modern clasps). I liked your video and I am going to check out some more of them. Cheers!

      Very much appreciate your thoughtful reply! Please don’t think I “hate” this watch! I liked the U50 but imvho Sinn is asking a premium price and not necessarily delivering a premium watch. I love the aesthetic and from the earliest days of this channel, back when it was VHS you can see I buy many Sinn pieces. It ultimately came down to….when the person you have been obsessed with for a long time agrees to go out with you and you’re salivating (?!) at the chance and then… the date is a dud and you wonder what the big deal is/was…kind of like that lol. 😂🥰 you make good points about the movement tbh and it’s hard to argue with you about that, sucks your Tudor is a lemon! Hopefully they get it right, that is so frustrating! Although the BB58 is a nifty watch…when it works…which is occasionally. 🥰😚

    My, take 🧐… I’m in the market for my last watch.. all my watches but one are beveled, except for one field watch, which is my beater.. 8 1/2” wrists, I smash into everything! So I wear a field watch on extended fishing trips as not to ruin my nicer divers! This is where the U50 is going to fit in, in my rotation 🤔.. a tool watch designed for punishment, nothing more, nothing less. Originally I was leaning towards a Pelagos, but now I think I made up my mind!🧐.. if you want a statement piece, I recommend you look elsewhere! Did you even mention the tegimented bezel and the U-Boat Steel while you were taIking about the pricing? The BB58 might have some more blinginess, but it looks a little generic as well. Most importantly you have to like the unique design of the U50. The specs are just a great addon.

    • @soundsoserious
      @soundsoserious  2 года назад

      Yep the tegiment is a cool technology and the submarine steel is interesting as well. Damasko offers the same stuff of course for cheaper. It’s surprising how much WR they can bake into such a small package. The U50 certainly has a unique style that’s for sure but the U1 is the original. Personally, I think there are better options at its retail price but under $2k it’s a solid. Check out my review of the Omega Seamaster, I traded my U50 towards that.

    Are you kidding me, the Sinn U50 is a killer pro diver and utility watch. My U50 is a recent one with a Top Grade Sellita SW300-1 with all the upgrades such as blue screws, decorations, Rhodium plating, adjusted to 5 positions and the new bigger and stronger main spring barrel and assembly which extends the power reserve to 56-57 hours. Super accurate to 1-2 seconds over a day no issues there. I have Glashutte sea Q 39mm in solid red gold, Blancpain fifty phantom 38mm, Rolex sub 124069, Rolex Starbucks, explorer 226570 black and white dials, etc but the Sinn U50 fully T is a amazing watch IMO.

    That bit at the end whereu said u couldn't wait to put on your sieko - this is because you fundamentally dislike the design at some level.
    This feeling can't be caused by a low power reserve or sticky bezel. I feel like you are rationalising your aesthetic/stylistic distaste using the stats of the watch, which as you said yourself are addaquate.

    • @soundsoserious
      @soundsoserious  2 года назад

      I’ve rewatched this vid a few times and you’re right: I’m not sure why I’m in such a funk over this perfectly fine watch. I think I was expecting something spectacular and got something “adequate” instead. Yeah the stats are great and it’s impressive how much depth Sinn can achieve in such a (relatively) slim watch. My criticism basically amounts to nitpicking and maybe with the benefit of hindsight comes across as a little whiny. But please understand that I am a ride or die Sinn lover, and maybe that’s why I’m so critical? We hurt the ones we love don’t we? But yeah, it was packaged up and already sent to a loving home. The watch world comes at you fast and when opportunities arise you have to be willing to get down range (as they say).

      @@soundsoserious Now that I have this watch (black on black bracelet) in hand and wearing it, I can definitely understand why you were underwhelmed by it. It's for the same reason that I was able to pick up this watch pre-owned at 9 months old. Coming from a 856 S UTC (which I think is the best one watch for anywhere and any occasions) and many great divers I can say this U50 was not a big wow over the 856S or many of the comparably priced or compared divers (my reference points are Aquis and MM200/300). I appreciate your honest opinion but on the movement, you do not have the facts straight though: the 556 comes with a SW200 with 38 hours of PR. The U50 comes with a SW300 which, since last year, has been upgraded to 56 hours of PR and Sinn has confirmed (although they don't advertise it) that they are using this version now. So if you got yours recently, you have 56 hours of PR on it. There is is NO Sinn watch with 24 to 35 hours of PR, and I don't even think anyone uses those anymore! 56 hours is not like super amazing or anything, but it's on par with a 55 hours Omega 8800 and people are fine with that. For me, what bothers me beyond anything else is their poor clasp....

    Your SMP will scratch much sooner. I own a few Sinn and a few Omega watches and the tegimented cases are worth every penny to me. My SMP and my Tudor are both scratch magnets. That being said, I love my coaxial movement. I like technology in mechanical watches. This is what attracted me to Sinn and what attracted me to Omega. I feel like a 120 click bezel is not too much to ask for on the Sinn at this price point. I am reading conflicting data about the power reserve. Seems like the SW-300-1 can reach 52 hours but I believe the one Sinn uses may be closer to 38-42. 38 is the base for the SW300-1. Other reviews have stated 42. The U-50 is also Dinn 8309 antimagnetic and low pressure resistant too. I think all the technology Sinn uses is an excellent value proposition. If they were to use an in-house high tech movement the watch would easily be in the same price range as a new omega.
    I appreciate the review. For me I still look to add the U-50 to my collection. The U50-T SDR specifically because I think the tegimented case and bracelet is worth the extra cost. I have found this to be true with my 856 UTC. When I want to wear something with better finishing I will wear my omega or my Tudor but I will baby these watches to avoid scratches.

    • @soundsoserious
      @soundsoserious  Год назад

      Very much enjoyed reading your thoughtful comments. I agree that the U-50 offers a lot of practical technology and the case hardening is a nice option (but an overpriced one imho). Sinn has GOT to improve their movements though. They are being lapped by smaller brands and bigger brands alike. I’m not talking about Omega and Breitling either but rather Longines and Formex. I wouldn’t be paying retail for a U-50 but at less than $2k it’s a “pretty good deal”. My condolences to those that lit their money on fire getting the “Professional”.

    • @thiswatchtoday7893
      @thiswatchtoday7893 Год назад +3

      @@soundsoserious My apologies to you when you pay to get your first scratch removed. I put my tegimented case through hell and there are no visible scratches. Worth every penny. Most watches use steel that is hardened to only 250 vickers while tegimented is rated at 1,200. That is almost 5 times as hard. My other watches gets dinged on door nobs if I'm not careful.
      Lognines uses ETA base movements and hasn't had an in house movement since the 80s. The Formex reef uses the SW300-1 which is the same movement in the U-50. Sinn makes modifications to increase anti-magnetism which to my knowledge neither Longines or Formex do. Sinn does not certify their movements like Longines and Formex. We have to give these brands credit for certifying some of their models but the Sinn SW300-1 movement is chronometer grade. I do wish Sinn would certify them but how is Formex really better when they use the exact same base movement?
      Both the Hydroconquest and the Reef have a lower water resistance as well, both at 30 bar. The Hydroconquest has a longer power reserve but also operates at 3.5 hertz to achieve this with its non COSC certified ETA movement.
      So in summary, I would pay $3k for a watch with more technologies but no certification rather than a $2-3k watch with COSC certification that is inferior in many other respects. Both the Hydroconquest and the Reef are fine options. I wouldnt knock anyones personal preference for these pieces but the U-50-T having a 50 bar rating, being low pressure resistant, DINN 8309 rated, and tegimented is really not a comparable watch.
      Demasko DSub would be a better comparison. It has the same anti-magnatism rating as the U-50, uses hardened submarine steel case (1,200 vickers), is the only one of the 4 that uses an in-house movement, is 30 bar, 42 hour power reserve at 4 hertz, and is just under $2,300. It is not COSC certified but is regulated in 5 positions. It does not have a bracelet option but is $640 less than the U-50 on rubber. That is a much closer comparison and a much tougher choice.

      Lol, well I think there’s a middle ground somewhere there. I have lots of mall ninja watches and I really enjoy them. It’s okay for a watch to be cool and to buy it because it looks awesome. Heck, check out my Panerai 305 video lol! The key is to not take it too seriously and enjoy these nice things (man-jewelry) for what they are and not be too upset if the next person doesn’t think it’s as badass as you do. Appreciate the comment! 🥰

    Mine came with the rubber strap which I am trying to remove and put a NATO strap instead. Any idea how to remove the rubber strap from the lug?

    • @soundsoserious
      @soundsoserious  2 года назад +2

      These come with drilled lugs so it’s fairly easy. Stick a toothpick into the lug hole to push the springbar and you should be able to apply gentle tension on the strap to remove. It takes a little practice.

      Zulu Diver makes it. I think it’s available on Amazon. Great quality. Honestly it’s outlasted a heck of a lotta watches including this one.

      @@soundsoserious did you not get on well with the sinn then ? Considering the u50 sdr on the grey canvas strap from sinn

      It was okay. Nothing more than that for me but others really like it. I’d buy it used. I paid $1650 for mine (full set minus rubber strap or bracelet).

      @@soundsoserious thanks for the honest review. I'm after a beater piece so perhaps it will do. It's around 2k GBP here in the UK. Other option is the pelagos FXD but that's a fair bit more.

    • @soundsoserious
      @soundsoserious  Год назад +1

      That’s a decent price. If selller will take 2k they will take 1850. It’s a buyers market so haggle and get the best deal. I don’t have experience with FXD but I had the BB58. More refined than the Sinn and with a far superior movement but it depends on what style you’re after.

    I’m a big fan of Sinn as l already own a 103 sa BE and 856 S UTC.
    Would love to add the U50 to the collection. However l already have 4 great divers: Submariner 124060, Tudor Pelagos FXD MN21, Pelagos 39 and Seiko SKX Custom YM Ninja.

    • @soundsoserious

      Ok wow, you have some grail level divers, the Tudors especially. Brutal honesty; u50 won’t make your rotation and you will move it within 6 months.

      @@soundsoserious You hit the nail on the head. The U50 would simply not get the wrist time. I’ve been fortunate that my AD was able to allocate me the Submariner, FXD and P39 in the last 12 months. Those 3 are my most worn pieces and a reason l sold my Speedmaster this year.

    I have come from way higher level watches and feel the U50 really stacks up against them. I go to some mean parts of the world and my U50ds is a solid wingman.

      Happy to hear that! Your situation is certainly one in which the U50 might truly shine: under-the-radar tough/good watch.
