Thank you for your guidance over the years, Rob. I absorb it all like a sponge. Actually consider myself quite the fine furniture maker thanks to you. Your drawer series during the pandemic took my skill to new levels.
We are all about helping take your woodworking to the next leve
Hope this helps?!? This is pure gold Rob! Thank you very much. BTW...
I'm (suddenly) not getting notifications for your new videos. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this?
Very cool way to cut joinery! It’s a little complicated but would be ideal for that extra pizazz to a special piece. Great video, thank you for sharing! Take care!!👍🏻
You got to have pizazz!
Fantastic video. Such a daunting joint to lay out. I think I will finally try it out on an upcoming project! Thanks Rob.
Thats why I made it. Give it a try. You will like it
Half of 5/16ths is 5/32nds - from a "metric friend". I switch between both systems depending on what is easiest but halving fractions in imperial is usually easier than halving millimetres especially if you don't have half-millimetre markings on the rule.
Good catch. I agree with you
If my movie script about Gustav Stickley ever gets picked up, I'm calling you for the lead role.
so, as a refinisher , when all fails how do i refix this? looks great, but what is your window of how long should this piece last? i love clarity. great work, low tolerance . legend
I love this stuff. Oh now i wish i could make a Rob Cosmon class.
We would love to have you
Meanwhile us mere mortal woodworkers (I use that term generously) are just going to use pocket holes because we would throw that wood at innocent bystanders in frustration. Your work is amazing.
Try it, you may find that its not hard at all
What are your thoughts on using this joint for window casings?
That would make a terrific, strong joint however, I don’t think you’ll be able to see the joint, but you may not care about that
Rob, this question is about dovetails, how do you keep the back side from chipping out when using the chisel?
Chop on to the middle from both faces.
Thank you.

Love the look of em yet still never utilized em but great video on the specifics!
Try it, you’ll like it!
How do you layout and calculate the length of the board for dados, tenons, etc., for a case like the bloke box where you have the top dovetailed and the bottom through wedge tenoned with dados? I feel like I would never get a case that has 90 degree corners? I think I would never get it right, my through wedge tenon board would either be too short or too long.
If you are talking about the total length of the board with the tenons its your desired opening size plus the thickness of the sides that you cut the mortise in
Would this joint be good for dinning table chairs?
Absolutely any place that you would normally use a morin tenant this joint will work wonderfully
Rob, love the detail but couldn't you just add the wedge to the outside of the through tenon so there are 3 parts not 5 or is is just for aesthetics ? You will still get the wedge effect and plenty of long grain to long grain contact for the glue.
Coming in a new video!
It would be helpful if we could add pictures with our questions/comments.
Sorry, we don’t control that that’s a RUclips thing
Ah, I see. Too bad. I have a couple oddball dovetail joints (not mine) I wanted your assessment of.@@RobCosmanWoodworking
Hey, Rob, did you know that Woodcraft, 'makers' of Wood River plans, will not ship to the men and women serving overseas?
They’re restricted by the manufacturer of the planes. The same plane, is sold in the UK as a Quangsheng plane, and by other names in other places of the world. Woodcraft‘s territory is North America.
@@RobCosmanWoodworking , The Army Post Office is a US Government entity. It is considered to be a US postal address. I have pointed this out to other companies who also have distribution agreements with EU members and they have changed their policy. I have offered to provide Woodcraft with the contact information to such a company...Woodcraft will not respond. Don't our service members deserve the chance to purchase quality products at the same price they could if they were serving back home?
Thanks for responding so quickly.
@johnkirkwood1671 so what I said was true, and has been experienced by other companies. Why are these servicemen and women not trying to purchase them from us? We ship worldwide.
@@RobCosmanWoodworking Amazon ships for free, do you? Woodcraft simply has to tell Amazon to allow shipment to the APO
@johnkirkwood1671 they don’t ship for free. The plane sells for $269.99 from Woodcraft, or on Amazon, sold and shipped by Woodcraft, for $283.98.
Man i miss that hair!!!!
Not me
@@RobCosmanWoodworking i can imagine. But you had the Fabio look or even one of the Hanson triplets down pat. Lol. Love you and respect you regardless of your hair.
I would have tempted to turn those tenons 90 degrees and make them along the axis of the horizontal piece.
In that orientation you risk splitting the wood
Love your stuff, been watching you for years, but I started screaming when you used your solid square as a hammer. It's a precision instrument. Still like you though...don't do it again.
Its a tiny piece of wood verses solid metal….plus i have a ton of them!!!!!
I had the same reaction when I saw it.
Get a haircut already!
I did! This is the second to last video shot with long hair!!!
@@RobCosmanWoodworkingthat is a shame I like the long hair, reminds of when mine still grew😂
