The scariest thing about this episode is that it shows the dark, controlling mentality and thought processes that a large part of the music/entertainment industry posses.
This episode reminded me of Michael Jackson and his doctor...Whitney Houston and Pat Houston. I feel like this episode was pretty deep 'cause it reflects the way artist may get treated in the future..
Thanks for being one of the only reactors who could really react to and analyze it a bit rather than just screeching about it being different. Also Amy Winehouse was set to go on a hologram tour and people were all about it. Hell I was until this episode.
It’s funny how the guy on the right had joked about the brain synthesis stuff early on, then it actually happened. But yeah, this was my favorite episode of the season.
Honestly, based on Miley's cover of Head Like A Hole, I would LOVE to hear an album from her with that same energy. Her voice is perfect for it and this has shown she can do different genres than just pop
It’s also inspired by Tupac who appeared at Coachella 16 years after he died. Originally I believe they were looking at a Tupac world tour, but people just weren’t ready for it. (But your kids are gonna love it….obligatory BTTF reference) And aside from Tupac, they’ve done it with a world tour of War of the Worlds with a holographic Richard Burton (it was fantastic) as well as Celine Dion doing with herself. And there were plans of bring Whitney Houston back for a world tour back in 2020 (prior to [presumably] Covid killing plans for it).
feels like the through-line of this episode was to emulate an episode of Hannah Montana if it was a little more gritty if the 2 personalities of that show were actually 2 different ppl (sisters) with the added meta-commentary of how the music industry controls their artists. But the execution....
I got the hologram show being a promotion to other managers and corporate music executives rather than the public. The idea that they could do a full tour every day would be lucrative and exciting for them, damn the ethics (which seemed to be the theme of the episode)
shame is that they don't get the deep meaning behind this. Because this happens with a lot of artist, it happened with Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carrey and so many artist who dealed with Sony were controlled by their label. The label most of the time want to control the artist. It's like a hidden message that label kills the artist, and that the label should listen more to the artist instead of controlling the artist.
I think we both definitely got concept of the nasty toxicity that exists within the music industry and the parallels to other famous artists. It's barely subtext, really, as the episode is pretty bold-faced about it. It just felt like the episode had other things on its mind as well.
Imagine revisiting this idea today, with what we know where chatgpt is going. It becomes more creepy even if most od the episode was cheesy. It's a scary prospect we can simply be impersonated with a level of realism that no one would even know if they never met you.
Actually I was in a 2 week coma. I remembered comments about me from my father and the nurses. So the brain stays active and aware when it looks like you are in a coma state
This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I dug your whole review. But I kept waiting for you to touch on the symbolism of the NIN song they used - the irony of a song about capitalist slavery being turned into a positivity-porn pop song...but was a little disappointed you never mentioned it. I still subscribed because you're both funny and entertaining movie nerds :)
I feel like all three episodes of the season, have that "Fuck it" kinda vibe. I know that this show is known for being just weird AF but I have not felt so cringy with Striking Vipers, so heartbroken in the second episode and just so "WTF" with this episode. I was laughing so hard watching your reactions.
When I first saw this episode, I thought the twist was going to be that Ashley O was secretly a psycho, being contained only through her meds (which the Toos obviously couldn’t take).
The audio content aware fill is a real thing being developed. Using past audio recordings, you can give give the software a script and it will be able to create a faked audio track using your voice with inflections.
I liked this episode. It's not NY favorite of the series and it's a bit of a departure, but I find it more rewatchable than most episodes. I don't leave with as much existential dread.
If you're talking about the one that started with, "I see the animal in her cage you’ve built. Are you sure what side you’re on?", it's based on a Nine Inch Nails song, just like 'On a Roll' (Head Like A Hole). That particular tune/song is based on the song, 'Right Where It Belongs', by Nine Inch Nails; pretty sure anyway.
@@RandyReviews1990 all of the songs in this episode technically were. Her hit pop song that later turned into a grunge song was also a Nine Inch Nails song. The "grunge" version at the end is the actual song by NIN: "Head Like A Hole."
the song from this ep actually went #1!!! its the third song miley got as #1 under different names (miley, hannah, ashley). a legend forever and always
I love this and I love you guys so much you could shoot a two hours vid with you only starting at the camera doing nothing and I’d still watch the whole thing.
I think all the ideas in this episode are plausible. Maybe the dream extraction is far fetched but we have experimental AI which I’m sure we will see soon in toys. There are already virtual artists in Japan. Even Goriilaz did live holographic performances.
“They’re making it into a teen comedy right now” you mean kinda like.... oh idk... Hannah Montana? 😌 The popstar in the wig. The dad being a mice exterminator *cough cough* Mickey Mouse. Miley even said in an interview it was based on her real life. Being forced to sing generic pop crap she never even liked. And probably darker shit behind the scenes nobody even knew about.
The title of this episode must have been inspired by the 1987 British film 'Rita, Sue and Bob Too' , which if your interested (which your not) was the first film i bashed the Bishop to.
Is anybody here an actual Nine Inch Nails fan and only watched the episode to see why Trent Reznor would allow Miley Cyrus to remix/cover his song? Hmm...Aside from the Head Like A Hole remix/cover, I thought it was cool they remixed Right Where it Belongs. I'm pretty sure Trent is trolling everyone, but at the same time..it's not a very good troll, and...well..most fans dislike Miley Cyrus. I have a feeling his wiafu put him up to this... Thanks for the episode guys!

Lyrical Rocker IKR!!!!!
The dad/mousetrap thing was a nod to Disney. The entire episode Ashley is trying to break free from her image, be herself, and "kill the mouse".
And Ashley o was hannah Montana 👍
This episode reminded me of Michael Jackson and his doctor...Whitney Houston and Pat Houston. I feel like this episode was pretty deep 'cause it reflects the way artist may get treated in the future..
Britney.
Or are getting treated now
Kenrick's life Aaliyah too
Elvis!
They literally made new music by Micheal Jackson after he died.
This episode is obviously inspired by him.
the hologram too
Also, didnt they make Elvis Presley concerts with a hologram?
Seth yup and Tupac
@@SETHthegodofchaos with Tupac and X And PopSmoke

That song you thought was a generic pop song is actually a rock song originally sung by nine inch nails called head like a hole
Haha yuuup. Spent all episode wondering if that was intentional until the end performance came up haha.
@@ReelRejects yeah, thanx for replying. Big fan
you didn't notice that 5 seconds before Greg called it a generic pop song, John was singing the NiN lyrics over it? I think they knew.
@@falselight oh, my bad
There's I think 3 NIN songs (or variations of) in this episode. Kinda weird. But I like it, ha.
I actually liked this episode. It was a lil bit corny, but overall it was entertaining
My thoughts exactly.
And Ashley Too was a whole mood
Great episode! Weird, yet down to earth, wholesome and happy ending. And that aunt is a real b****.

This episode is based in britney's life during the conservatorship.
Hannah Montana but darker

That episode reflect what Disney did to Miley Cyrus
I was thinking exactly that
They established that songs come to her in her dreams. So they kept her in a dream state to just pull songs from her. Wasnt that complicated or stupid
I suppose so.. Just didn't quite buy the way the episode orchestrated it.
@@ReelRejects yeah it was definitely out there!!!! Keep up the great work !
