  • How To grow chives from seed and transplant into your garden. This is more effective than direct sowing. Each tiny chive will grow more bulbs which can be separated to create new, FREE plants! These new plants will also multiply. You could take one plant and over time create an infinite supply of chives!

    Chives actually require a good winter frost to go dormant and re-gather energy. They'll look like they are gone for good, but just wait until next year. Even more chives, bigger and badder :)

    winter sow was a wild success for me with chives too....however the garlic chives never sprouted; i heard the seeds of all the alliums have to be fresh...

      I am adding garlic chives this year. They sprouted fine last year but I did them outside and let them dry out 😬
