I am blown away by the level of details, the amount of research, and the hands on experience you have in this video. Thanks! and hope you keep doing more of them. Ps. Glad you included container grow - I don’t have a garden and indoor container is all I can do.
I started a chive plant in a container last year. We had a cold winter so I figured it died. But! It came back and blossomed! I’m so excited for this hardy plant and looking forward to using the blossoms for vinegar and all the other uses you mentioned. Thanks so much. I’m a new gardener and have so much to learn but thankfully we are supplied with some easy plants to learn with. And good videos like yours!
Donna, I'm in awe of your videography! You showed the most dazzling clips of many dishes in which your chives can be used. Your video is as professional as any TV production! Well done!
This is the first video of yours I have seen I love your voice and the way you continue to keep my interest throughout the video I haven't had any luck with chives but now I feel confident I will be able to grow them Thanks so much
This is my first year growing chives and this is, by far, the most informative video I've watched. I was mesmerized by your voice and the start to finish details. And your recipe ideas looked amazing. Thank you so much for posting this.
Oh wow! That was very thorough! I was going to plant my packet of chive seeds, but thought I’d check YT to See if there was any advice on chives. I am in zone 9. The package says it is a perennial, but due to my hot temps, it may be an annual. We’ll see. Your video helped me very much! I will have to be patient if it takes 21 days to sprout. Usually I am freaking out way before then, thinking they were dud seeds🤣.
Finally a video thats show me where to get my chive seeds with out buying but from my own already grown chives why dont more videos show how to harvest the seeds!!! Thank you sooooo much i love this video!!!! My 1st year growing chives 😂 got some from Walmart and planted them they are growing flowers! Not open yet but its 1dt time ive seen chives with flowers normaly i keep them in water in side and get as much as i can before they died but this year i got a garden growing onions garlic tomato and cherry tomatoes potatos and green peppers all in the same garden box thing its up high well!! Iam so excited and that paper towel trick worked i have peppers seeds that grew!!! 😭😍😍 Im so happy going to plant them soon just pray so my garden lives i let the rain water them and sometimes ill water them its striving they are loving their lil home i will keep out eye for bugs i did not know some were bad...
What a wonderful video presentation! The video was brilliantly put together, edited to a very high standard, and your narration was relaxing and very easy to listen to. And the best part was the comprehensive information you provided, from collecting seeds, to growing and maintaining chives, and harvesting and storing, and even some recipes! If only all videos were made to this standard. Amazing. Thank you for your passion.
It's 245 AM here and I am getting hungry for smooth, homemade cottage cheese ( Quark ) with a pinch of salt and lots of chives on rye bred or an a baked potato.
I've started my chives from seed this year. I've cut them all down for various reasons and it is always coming back. Great video! Now I know what to expect and what to do with it!
without a doubt one of the most densely informative youtube videos I have ever seen. Thank you for being such a wonderful addition to youtube, you truly go above and beyond with your content I cannot believe how much I didnt know I wanted to know, im just sowing from seed for the first time myself.
This is my first time seeing one of your videos. Just have to say I can’t imagine it being any better. SO much helpful information that I’d not found elsewhere, the video added so much to your narration, and your voice is pleasant and I found the whole thing delightful. Just like being with a trusted and helpful friend, who happens to be a real expert!
I'm only two minutes into this video and you already remind me SO much of myself! I LOVE how you add the nutritional information along with your gardening techniques! I can tell that we would be such great friends 😂That said, your videos are of amazing quality and super informative! Thank you so much!! ❤️Just subscribed!
I love my chives, I moved them a few years ago (by the way I would suggest avoiding that, I'm still finding them in the old spot 2 years later) and haven't done anything with them other then a splash of water every now and then since, and they're basically planted on hard packed clay but I still get enough to eat with my eggs three or four times a week from only three plants.
Thank you so much for letting me know. Have they seen the series with my son Jay? This is the playlist :ruclips.net/video/MLTTXZ_cTeo/видео.html The series with Jay starts on the second video.
Great video..... madly impressed with your cooking skills, everything in your video looked perfectly cooked. Keep up the great videos and amazing dishes❤️❤️❤️🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Love your videos so much. Your explanations are clear and informative. I follow you and save the ones that I'm sure I'll need as references for my garden.(Pots only, sadly, where I live.)
Thanks for sharing! I use it in place of garlic when I need the flavor but do not have garlic. However, I saw a recipe for garlic chives used as the vegetable and I would like to try it soon.
Perfect! I am so happy to have stumbled upon your channel! A fellow raised bed gardener ☺️ My hubby and I always have a healthy competition on growing each year! I am raised bed he is ground crop!
I'm not sure what kind I have,Chinese chive ?? lol, but they have been growing for over 8 yrs crammed in a deep pot neglected😢. I blv they get a purple flower. I separated them today...they are flat & thin & have sm bulbs w roots & oh do they smell pungent😜😳. I soaked in fish emulsion & they perked up👍then replanted them in 3 pots. Hoping to get flowers again. Thanx for the recipes & fertilizing tips! I make COMPOST so that's perfect👍💚💚💚 😁
Thanks for the video. In terms of the garlic chives, I know that there's at least two varieties. One of them has white flowers and has slightly broader leaves, the one with pink flowers half an hour leaves. I find the one with the narrow leaves are more tender. In terms of the flowers, the flower stalks can be tough, but you can break it off at the area where it snaps on its own. And use the tender parts for eggs or stir fries.
You’re so thorough! This is my second year with my container chives and saw some flower buds! Was wondering if the flavor would be good. Thanks so much for answering my questions 🥰🥰
Hi! I’m so glad I found you!! I live in zone 5B so I’m getting my hardy seedlings in. I should mention finding garlic chives was difficult where I live, probably because I waited too long.
You're welcome, would you please do some apartment indoor growing without electricity and organic please? I live in a student flat but I love organic food but I have no money :(, including saving seeds? Thank you in advance
Great video, i planted my chives last night, they said garlic chives on the pot, but after watching a few videos i am thinking i have common chives lol, either or i will love them, thank you for all the info..
Thank you so much..these videos are awesomely done..I liked the chive vinegar idea. Opened my mind up to other ideas..I wonder how a basil vinegar would do?
I live in zone 7 and my garlic chives have come back for seven years. I do grow them in containers but leave them outside all year long. But some of the seeds do fall into other pots around it, so I do get some chives in unwanted pots like my strawberries.
I am blown away by the level of details, the amount of research, and the hands on experience you have in this video. Thanks! and hope you keep doing more of them.
Ps. Glad you included container grow - I don’t have a garden and indoor container is all I can do.

I didn't realize chives needed cooler temperatures when sowing. This is helpful!
I've started my chives from seed this year. I've cut them all down for various reasons and it is always coming back. Great video! Now I know what to expect and what to do with it!

Chives grow better in cool climate. Here in Finland you can also find wild chives on islands and rocky shores on the Baltic sea. They are super tasty.
I live in zone 7 and my garlic chives have come back for seven years. I do grow them in containers but leave them outside all year long. But some of the seeds do fall into other pots around it, so I do get some chives in unwanted pots like my strawberries.
