Kayla the fact that you picked my suggestion for GTN from the jar and then ended up loving it is my biggest win of the year so far!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Harrow! It’s probably my favorite out of the ones that are out now but GET READY. 😂♥️
Wow not this video single-handedly convincing me to finally add Gideon the Ninth to my TBR??? I’ve heard so many people pitch this book before, but this is the first time I’ve actually been intrigued enough to want to pick it up!!
A more accurate description is angsty teenage lesbians stumble into a closed door murder mystery while navigating their separate identities as the ultimate butch himbo and the world's worst delegator of duties. Happy Reading!
I'm rereading Gideon the Ninth after having read Harrow because I wanted to see if I actually liked it that much, and yes, I absolutely did!! Harrow will confuse you soooo much, but it's totally worth it
I am so happy that you loved Gideon-easily one of my favorite series. There is one of the world’s greatest dad jokes in the second book that I read three years ago and still haven’t shut up about since so that is something to look forward to!
I really appreciate wrap-ups because of how much easier it makes it find where you talked about specific books when I want to come back to watch again after reading them myself,, thanks for doing them!!
Amazing wrap up! 32 books, incredible. Definitely got a few recommendations, MUST read Know My Name in 2023! Love the sound of The Dating Playbook too, need a few uplifting, easy reads now and then!
Not trying to pressure you into continuing wrap ups, but I watched the vlogs and stuff and I usually only add books to my tbr during the wrap ups. Something about the rapid fire aspect is just helpful. Vlogs are awesome but im just chilling watching those. All vibes. I'm not taking notes usually
It was worth it!. I have not heard anyone describe the writing in Gideon the Ninth before and that makes me want to read it now when I wasn't really interested before.
After watching your Wayward Children vlog, I listened to the entirety of Lost in the Moment and Found on a late night hike, and I had to stop several times and lean on something or sit down because I was sobbing uncontrollably. None of the other books in the series have had that big of an emotional impact on me and I haven't given any of them more than 3 stars, so that was unexpected to say the least 😅
Ling Ma has a recent short story collection out called Bliss Montage, spectacular cover of oranges in a clear plastic bag. I’m reading Severance soon, glad I’m doing it in that order.
It was worth it! Added a 4 new books - plus the Wayward Children series. So yes - thank you! I also started watching your videos only a few months ago and I love how your organized, including data behind it all. This is how my brain works too so it is much appreciated 😊
you are the real mvp for filming wrap-ups even though you don't enjoy them, they're so helpful for me as someone who doesn't have time to watch everyone's content. that said i'll watch anything and everything you put out! (also, i love the little stats graphic at the beginning!)
you’ve convinced me to read the other side of night!! and i love how you articulated your thoughts on severance, that’s also one of my favourites of last year and i love it for the same reasons as you!
The Locked Tomb series is absolutely a "read multiple times to catch everything" kind of series. Which is not a bad thing. A book that can give you something new with every reread is totally worth it.
It is so satisfying listening to you talk about Gideon because you really encompass so well the reading experience. It does hold a similar place in my feelings to The Raven Cycle, even though they are vastly different stories. I'm so glad you'll be continuing with the series!
i love wrap ups! it lets me hear about books more than once and thus have a better memory of it if i’m going book shopping! AND if i’m hearing about it next to a bunch of others i can see how it ranks comparatively on interest level
This video was worth it, to see my question get answered😇 but mostly to hear your review of Gideon the Ninth! I haven’t heard anyone describe the writing style or the humour and that style of writing is my favourite so I’ve just borrowed it from the library🥰!
I did enjoy this! I added a few books to my TBR! The Other Side of Night and Sirens and Muses! I love Seann McGuire, and I love the Wayward Children series! I'm about to start my reread of the whole series to read the newest one!
omg i cant believe u read gideon the ninth! im so excited for u to read the rest of the series, im so glad u loved it 🥰 all I've got to say is.. ure in for a ride
I regards to if your wrap ups are worth it... I love the way you describe books for some reason there are books where I've heard them pitched by several other RUclipsrs and had no interest but when you explain them I'm like oooh I gotta put that on my TBR. Today that was Gideon the Ninth for me.
Thanks for answering my question about a book you might've enjoyed more in a different era; I had an inkling it might be The Push but it was cool to hear you'd say that about Foe, too! One of my new year's resolutions is to PUSH (haha) myself to read more horror and sci-fi, genres I don't usually gravitate towards. So I've checked out both Foe and We Spread from the library!! And another resolution was to join your channel membership at some point this year... so I just did :') So happy to be here!
For me, Gideon was confusing, but it was nothing compared to how lost I was with Harrow (had to DNF, I still want to read it but I need to be super focused when I do). I can't wait to hear what you think when you get to it. It might be the push I need to try again.
I really appreciate wrap ups! You always find creative ways to make your wrap ups a bit more interesting and it's also nice to hear your thoughts on all the books you read. 😊
Honestly so impressed with your memory of character names, it immediately goes out my brain. I looked at my January books and I could only remember for the most recent book I read 😅
Godspeed with Harrow lol. It will make zero sense for 75-80% of it, but the payoff is so so worth it! Moira Quirk's audiobooks for the Locked Tomb series are god-tier as well :)
I'm an Aries too, and don't let people know what I'm up to until I know I was successful or got it. It drives some people crazy because I'm not always open about things, but hearing you say it made me feel so connected to you~
I usually only watch wrap up videos, but come from the standpoint that you should do what is best for you and your channel! You did put the other side of night on my radar :)
I’m so intrigued by Gideon the ninth! I loved the cheeky writing in the raven cycle as well so I’d love to read something with a similar narrative voice
Ling Ma has a short story collection that came out last year called Bliss Montage! It has one of my favourite covers in a long time. Kevin Wilson also has a book that came out last year called Now Is Not the Time to Panic - I liked it more than I liked Nothing to See Here, but I'm not sure what you would think.
I keep meaning to pick up the Wayward Children series every time you talk about it but always forget!!! So those are the ones that I am most interested in. Also, Legends and Lattes because I've seen it talked about in a few different spaces.
Ling Ma has a short story collection called Bliss Montage! I read it last month. I typically don’t even enjoy short story collections but I gave it 4 stars!
As someone who works with SA survivors, Know My Name was life changing for me because I read it during a time the I felt burnt out and hopeless and Chanel reminded me the small kindnesses still matter.
I already had Gideon the Ninth on my TBR but I'm moving that book up to the top of my list for next month because of this video! Ugh and I've had Know My Name on my tbr since it was released but you've also made me want to read that one asap I just know if I caaannnn😩😭 Idk if I'm ready for the heaviness of it all or the anger that I just KNOW it will have me feeling! Aaaand now I'm adding The Other Side of Night to my cart😅
As someone who also gave Gideon 4 stars the first time, I did Gideon, Harrow, Gideon, Harrow, THEN Nona and all the characters make sense. Take notes and make character maps !!! Gideon is now my favorite fantasy of all time.
I really think you’re going to love Harrow more than Gideon. It’s definitely more confusing, but in an “unreliable narrator” kind of way, and you have to piece together what’s happening. It’s glorious. Also, the audiobooks are fantastic!
I am so absolutely terrible with names for books 😅, I really should just write them down before I do wrap up videos. I think I only remember if they're my favorite names in real life or like really unique names.
That’s was impressive with the names! I read about 8-10 books a month and always struggle to remember the characters’ names when I’m filming wrap ups 😅
The way my entire life was hanging in the balance of you liking Gideon 😂 I was pretty sure you wouldn't since you didn't enjoy my other snarky space favourite, All Systems Red (still pretty devastated about that, not gonna lie), but I'm so thrilled it worked for you! And I can't wait to hear what you think about Harrow! Gideon made me confused at times but that book made me feel like I could barely READ 😆
You NEED to read The Complex by Michael Walters. It's in that Leave the World Behind/Foe kind of vibe (haven't read Cabin at the End of the World, but probably that one too), but I'd say it's more Leave the World Behind meets You've Lost a Lot of Blood. I think you may really love it!
you crying over that book is the reason I picked it for my mini book club with my mom and brother and I am ready to sob 💗 I may not have warned them that it's heartbreaking though, so oops 🤭
Ling Ma actually has a short story collection that came out in 2022 that is magical realism/Speculative. I haven't read it yet. but very up your alley? It's called Bliss Montage.
Gideon is SO GOOD. The whole series really deeply rewards re-reads, too. I finished my 4th read of it as my first book in 2023! This is the only series that makes me rabid for the fandom and making conspiracies (this last re-read I essentially started compiling my own personal wiki, lmao) I consider Gideon to be very Dark Academia given the mystery, the character dynamics, the forbidden knowledge and puzzles, all the libraries and laboratories, etc. But I will say-- starting in Harrow the series gets a LOT more outer space-y. It has a totally different vibe while retaining much of the sarcasm/humor/memes of the first one (more memes, actually) and starts to get _really_ bonkers but in the best way. ;)
Remembering the dog's name over the guy's name was my favorite part.
Same!
I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding when you said Gideon the Ninth worked for you, I’ve never been so invested in you liking a book.
Same! LOLOL I was so relieved.
Absolutely
😂😂😂😂😂😂
So glad you liked Gideon the Ninth! You're right that it's even better on reread. I hope you like the rest of the series too!
Kayla the fact that you picked my suggestion for GTN from the jar and then ended up loving it is my biggest win of the year so far!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Harrow! It’s probably my favorite out of the ones that are out now but GET READY. 😂♥️
Thank you for recommending it bestie!! 🤗💕 I love being constantly surprised by my own enjoyment of books not on my TBR 🙌
The audiobook reader is also AMAZING so full recommendation for that!
I love that you loved Gideon! Tamsyn is a kiwi author and it's great seeing her work getting traction so widely.
@@hellomelloyello LOL and now it’s at the top of my TBR! Thank you for this😂
So happy to hear you enjoyed Black Cake. My cousin authored that book. It was a beautiful read. I’m so proud of her.
I love wrap ups so thank you for making them even though you don’t enjoy filming them ❤❤
I love your wrap ups! This is where I increase my library holds list the most!
I really appreciate wrap-ups because of how much easier it makes it find where you talked about specific books when I want to come back to watch again after reading them myself,, thanks for doing them!!

That totally makes sense!! Thanks for this perspective 🤗
It was worth it!. I have not heard anyone describe the writing in Gideon the Ninth before and that makes me want to read it now when I wasn't really interested before.

I liked Gideon MORE after I read Harrow and went back 🥹 can't wait to read them a third time + Nona a second time, in prep for alecto
Ling Ma has a recent short story collection out called Bliss Montage, spectacular cover of oranges in a clear plastic bag. I’m reading Severance soon, glad I’m doing it in that order.

I've added I think 3 to my TBR from this video that I haven't heard of! So definitely useful :) Please keep going!
you’ve convinced me to read the other side of night!! and i love how you articulated your thoughts on severance, that’s also one of my favourites of last year and i love it for the same reasons as you!

P.S. I have been looking for more Romance authors and found Farrah Rochon on Libby thanks to this video.
you're absolutely insane for reading 32 books in a month. I'm a big fan!
I love your wrap ups because even when i watch your vlogs, I feel like the wrap ups convince me to read the books more!
i love wrap ups! it lets me hear about books more than once and thus have a better memory of it if i’m going book shopping! AND if i’m hearing about it next to a bunch of others i can see how it ranks comparatively on interest level
so glad you enjoyed gideon the ninth! harrow the ninth is even wilder! i haven’t read nona the ninth yet so i can’t wait to get to it!
I absolutely love your wrap ups and would miss them a lot.
I would just like to say that I really appreciate ur wrap-ups and I did get a couple of books added to my tbr! Much love!
This video was worth it, to see my question get answered😇 but mostly to hear your review of Gideon the Ninth! I haven’t heard anyone describe the writing style or the humour and that style of writing is my favourite so I’ve just borrowed it from the library🥰!
The Push was a 5 star for me but I am someone who has never wanted kids and has had that affect my life/relationships so I felt for the protagonist.
I did enjoy this! I added a few books to my TBR! The Other Side of Night and Sirens and Muses! I love Seann McGuire, and I love the Wayward Children series! I'm about to start my reread of the whole series to read the newest one!
I love watching your wrapups! It ties all of your videos and reads toghter and reminds me of books I was interested in :))

I love love love that you liked Gideon the ninth! I’m excited to hear your thoughts on Harrow!!
Here for Gideon specifically
32 books?! That’s amazing! I read 10 in January and was happy with that.
Ling Ma has a short story collection I’ve heard incredible things about!
My fave part was the beginning, it was not boring!!
I've been looking forward to this wrap-up all month!!!
Yes I appreciate the wrap ups. I don't love watching book vlogs so Iove hearing all the thoughts at once
For me, Gideon was confusing, but it was nothing compared to how lost I was with Harrow (had to DNF, I still want to read it but I need to be super focused when I do). I can't wait to hear what you think when you get to it. It might be the push I need to try again.
Gideon the ninth sounds soo dope! It's been on my shelf for years!
I read 31 books this month and you still beat me 🤣 You are a phenomenal!
I'm so happy you enjoyed gideon the ninth! i know a lot of people have said it already but i was looking forward to seeing you read it for like YEARS😄
This is my motivation to dust Gideon off my TBR shelf.
It drives some people crazy because I'm not always open about things, but hearing you say it made me feel so connected to you~
I am going to give Mary, Foe (which I have seen you mention a couple times) and The Other Side of Night a try. 😊
I reread Gideon and listened to the audio while reading and it was SO FUN. And I had the same experience the first time where I was confused.
I usually only watch wrap up videos, but come from the standpoint that you should do what is best for you and your channel! You did put the other side of night on my radar :)
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is so beautiful 🥹❤️❤️❤️📚I knew you would love the book Kayla!
I’m so intrigued by Gideon the ninth! I loved the cheeky writing in the raven cycle as well so I’d love to read something with a similar narrative voice
oh😫😫 i’ve read a total of one book this month and here comes Kayla with 32!! you go girl
listen I read half of one book so you're killing it compared to me 😂
haha same! go one book club!
Haha me too and i didn't even like it 😂 quantity doesn't really matter tho!
Same here! In my defense I do have a newborn lol
I’m so glad you liked gideon! One of my favorite series even though every book made me feel so stupid
I love wrap ups. I've added a few of these to my list
Woke up on my birthday with a new Lala video to watch?? Heck ya!
Happy birthday Ash!!! 🙌💖🎉
@@BooksandLala thank you❤️
I’m so excited to read Gideon the Ninth now!! I hoarded a copy for a year but was scared it wouldn’t be for me. I think I will love it now!!
You trying to remember the characters' names was too funny 😭😭😭😭
I added like 6 books to my good reads so yes, they’re defo worth doing! ❤ thank you, it’s appreciated!
I keep meaning to pick up the Wayward Children series every time you talk about it but always forget!!! So those are the ones that I am most interested in. Also, Legends and Lattes because I've seen it talked about in a few different spaces.
I skipped everything just to know about Gideon and IM SO HAPPY YPU LIKED IT ITS SO GOOD RIGHT YOU'RE GONNA LOVE HARROW
I’m very impressed at how many characters names you remembered! I can’t even remember the characters of the last book I read lol!
I just read a short story from Tamsyn Muir and loved it so I bought Gideon. This makes me even more excited about it!
Ling Ma had a short story collection release last year called Bliss Montage! Incredible cover....haven't read yet lol
As someone who just recently reread GtN-- I can confirm, going back after reading the other books is a TREAT!
I want to pick up Foe! :) I am not new to weird books, but I havent read from the author yet.
Ling Ma has a short story collection called Bliss Montage and I def recommend it! I listened to the audiobook last year and really enjoyed it.
I loved the silliness segment haha.... you should do something silly every wrap up!
SO happy about Gideon. Totally agree about the snark and writing style is fantastic. Harrow blew my mind, so excited for you to read it.
As someone who also gave Gideon 4 stars the first time, I did Gideon, Harrow, Gideon, Harrow, THEN Nona and all the characters make sense. Take notes and make character maps !!! Gideon is now my favorite fantasy of all time.
I've seen Gideon the Ninth several times but had no real interest until your wrap up. Now, it feels like a must read!
Super intrigued by Unlikely Animals!! especially since you mentioned Stars Hollow
32...damn! I read 10 and that's quite good for me haha
Love that you can remember the dog's name easier than the main characters hehe
I very much appreciate this video! Thanks!!!
I definitely took Allie from this video, so I appreciate you 😊 I’ve added like 5 of the books to my TBR 🎉
Ling Ma has a short story collection called Bliss Montage. It came out last year and is incredible! I gave both that and Severance 5 stars!
okay this IMMEDIATELY made me push gideon the ninth up on my tbr list!!
Highly recommend both the sequel to Finna, Defkt I believe is the name, and a similar sounding but very different book by Grady Hendrix, Horrorstor 💜
That main character name game was impressive!
Your synopsis of the push is giving me “Tell me you don’t like this book without telling me you don’t like it” 😂
🤭🤭🤭
I added Gideon to my TBR!
you crying over that book is the reason I picked it for my mini book club with my mom and brother and I am ready to sob 💗 I may not have warned them that it's heartbreaking though, so oops 🤭
Ling Ma actually has a short story collection that came out in 2022 that is magical realism/Speculative. I haven't read it yet. but very up your alley? It's called Bliss Montage.
i exclusively watch wrap up videos so thank you for making them LOL
I just finished Kevin Wilson’s new book, Now Is Not the Time To Panic, and loved it! I’m so curious to see if you like it too!
Gideon is SO GOOD. The whole series really deeply rewards re-reads, too. I finished my 4th read of it as my first book in 2023! This is the only series that makes me rabid for the fandom and making conspiracies (this last re-read I essentially started compiling my own personal wiki, lmao)
I consider Gideon to be very Dark Academia given the mystery, the character dynamics, the forbidden knowledge and puzzles, all the libraries and laboratories, etc.
But I will say-- starting in Harrow the series gets a LOT more outer space-y. It has a totally different vibe while retaining much of the sarcasm/humor/memes of the first one (more memes, actually) and starts to get _really_ bonkers but in the best way. ;)
