Damm, NAILED IT! Groove, pocket, how Jeff's swings the beat! I agree with all the other comments. As Jeff used to say all the time!... "It's Groove Time". Well you just saw it here!
He has better technique than I do, but that is not the Rosanna shuffle. Watch Jeff Porcaro break it down and you'll see. ruclips.net/video/NMI81yIlT0Q/видео.html&t=95
There are some grooves that are “off limits” in regards to trying to instruct other drummers or even just trying to show what they can do. IMO the only drummers that are qualified to show the Roseanna groove are the ones that have had to play it as a member of Toto. The best one to learn from and is about the closest to Porcaro’s feel is Shannon Forrest.
I don’t dislike it.... and it’s a good effort.... but it’s not perfection ..... but to be fair the Porcaro shuffle can only be done by the man himself..... this is good but it doesn’t flow smoothly... and looks a little awkward doing it which doesn’t help the feel.... but definitely doesn’t warrant hate comments 🙈
This Groove ist so awesome. Playing it at that tempo and still maintaing this chill feel ist really really hard. But when done correctly it's just a gift from heaven :D
Porcaro and Toto were pure magic in the 80's. I recall hearing Rosanna for the first time in '82 and it sent shivers down my spine on first listen. There just isn't much music that does that. This definitely not easy to play this well so, good job

Check the credentials of michael alba. Baka naman magbago ang isip. This guy plays on the music that you listen on radio & watch on tv and also films. This guy mentors most of the top drummers in the philippines. baka si mark pacpaco nag aral din sa module ni sir Michael. hehehe Pero si Sir michael sabi niya walang the best para sa kanya meron lang most effective sa type ng genre ng music na tinutugtug niya. :) happy days ahead

Being a semi pro "air" drummer, I would think playing any of the older Toto songs are the most fun. They have a great beat and rhythm! Nice job Mike on this one!
Holly molly you nailed this one on the spot. Im a drummer myself and i know this groove looks like a walk in the park, but is superdifficult to play. My big respect to you Michael. This is high class drumming at its best. Love from a brother in crime from switzerland.
That was a beautiful straight up version, very good mechanic on his drums, he's obviously very serious about his craft which all of us should take our drumming very seriously, just imagine if they let him loose on that song and he played it the way he wanted, that would have been awesome!
That single handed 16th note beat on the high hat is a Jeff Porcaro signature and this guy nailed it. Great funky, steady beat and extremely clean and tasty. You’re the man on this one!
It's actually 8th note triplet based not 16ths, playing the 1st and 3rd triplet and ghosting the 2nd triplet on the snare and accenting beat three on the snare. It's a halftime shuffle. It was first heard done by Bernard Purdie in Home at last and also Babylon sisters by Steely Dan hence it's also sometimes referred to as the "Purdie Shuffle". This is like a faster version of it Jeff Porcaro did in Rosanna.
Absolutely perfect! The attention he has for the detail of ghost notes is uncanny. Just flat out amazing playing and skill! I watched it several times.
Great drumming - for sure one of the best interpretations of that iconic song and jeffs playing imho... All the best to all drummers out there! Keep it up!
Que monstruo...Impecable... Sencillo ,esa versión esta muy buena ( Jeff Porcaro).. Te felicito..que bueno es saber que músicos como usted aprendan y transmitan esta calidad de música...Un abrazo de Argentina...
Yeah! Amazing drumcover by my homonym, it's a pleasure to watch and hear because it sounds like the original track recorded by Jeff...probably the most accurate.
Such a clean shuffle. All those standing around you who don’t know how to play are probably perplexed at this... Like, “How the hell is he doing that?” Very nice. I love pocket beats with that much busy work.
His drumming is so clean, doctors use it to sterilize wounds.
Dayummmmm bruhhh. Good one.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not!! Porcaro shuffle and ghost strokes are missing.
narehabako still good playing tho
Santi Cuyugan Well, it depends on your standard. This song is technically very difficult to pull it off even for elite drummers.
I've been "trying" to play this piece of art for 40 years and he played it like He wrote it. Best I've, ever seen or heard it played since Jeff!
This guy is so badass. Not only is he super smooth but he's singing the entire time. Well done young man 🤘
The BEST gospel-RnB drummer in the whole Philippines.
@@stevenizanagi5279 do you remember Kirk Franklin I don't know who is drummer was but that was an incredible worship band 🥁🎺🎤🎼🕊️
Yep, Kirk Franklin is one of the many artists I listen to since I am also a drummer in our worship team.
His guys are beasts. Specially his drummer. 👌
He isnt singing?
@yes8514 😅 if Toto was looking for replacements he'd be the drummer & the singer.

I had never seen this cover. Its Excellent! He lays back just the right amount and his dynamics are perfect!
People who disliked are just jealous and frustrated drummers. This is perfection from a fellow musician!

Such mastery And restraint. Those elusive ghost notes were spot on. Amazing. Salamat from Fiji
He even does the fade out...flawless.
Holy grail of drum covers.... mahusay!!!

Relatable as anything
