I've always used gaffer's tape. Similar to your friction tape, but wider. The first reed I ever used was one I made with wood dowel, tarred twine (to set the dent spacing), SS 1/8" rod and wrapped with gaffer's tape. It was 4 dent, which worked fine with heavy wool yarn that I set to 8 epi for wool throws. I still have that reed. Works well.
Many thanks, my youtube friend. When cleaning up my reeds I did NOT use Naval Jelly as I felt it might damage the thread. I appreciated the explanation of how a reed is assembled and you for sharing your knowledge.
You mentioned you can tell the difference between a good rug and a cheap not so good rug. Maybe you can explain the difference between the two. Informative videos I enjoy a lot of the same hobbies, chainsaw milling, firearms, tractor work and fiddling
Wonderful video, sure appreciate all you teach us, I have sent a couple e-mails on the old 351 but I guess you get too much e-mail to respond to them all.Keep up with the videos, they are a real treat.
I just used scotch strapping tape with fiberglass reinforcement for making my heddle. I am sure it would work for the Reed as well.
