  • Peaky Blinders Season 6 had arguably one of the biggest reveals in the series history, that being, that they had a traitor in their midst. In todays video, we look as the possible reasons to how and why Tommy knew Billy Grade was the traitor and informant within the Peaky Blinders gang, as well as what happened to him as a result.

    You perfectly nailed exactly what I thought about the phone lines. Tommy went absolutely berserk after the failed killing of Mosley, screaming "Who?! Who?! Who?!" Tommy would have explored every single possibility in the wake of that and his property phone lines would be one of the very first things he checks up on. I can't believe they never included a short scene, possibly a flashback, of Tommy picking up the phone and asking the switchboard worker if any calls were made from his lines the night of the assassination, and bingo, one call from the betting shop, 30 minutes before Mosley's speech, to Ireland, a man with an Irish accent. I just can't believe they never made that scene.

      I think the shot that billy picks up the phone is enough. It would be too much and too stupid adding details how tommy finds out (also true for other examples in the show). Tommy will know sooner or later, as long as we know. We have seen all the traitor’s sign and behavior in billy. Take other similar stories as examples (like godfather), we don’t need to know how the protagonist knows everything because he’s smart, scary and he’s the devil. he will know and he will avenge. It’s only us the audience who need to know. Even sometimes we’ll know who when the protagonist shows us by his action.

    At the beginning of the series we get to know that Thomas has control over the phone lines in Birmingham. Billy used the phone from the company to betray the Peaky Blinders. I think thats how they got the confirmation of who gave the info.

    • @lon7082
      @lon7082 4 месяца назад +3

      Agreed with this, Tommy repeatedly told his family members not to discuss family business over the phone, implying that the phones are tapped. I assumed that they were tapped by either Campbell, the police or IRA, however it makes sense that Tommy tapped them himself and that's how he knew.

      It was Arthur / Finn who made him a peaky Blinders. Arthur was on drugs hard after Linda left him so probably not so clear in the head, and Finn is just dumb. If this was Tommy he would never have allowed it.. he is the head of the family for a reason.

    Every Peaky Blinders member know it was Finn ruined it but they keep it a secret. That's why Finn was so isolated even before his excommunication. It should be Finn being in charge of bookmaking company but it was Isiah. When killing the referee Arthur had zero patience towards Finn. And nobody gave a fuck about Finn's wife, later Tommy even forgot her name (imagine Tommy ever forgetting Esme or Linda's name for one second).

    This is the most solid theory. Furthermore, Tommy has known the phone number of Laura McKee already and telephone exchange leak has become a thing back in episode 1 of season 1 (it was Freddie Throne though). So, at some point of that night before the assassination, there was a call from Finn's telephone to the IRA. Guess who made the call?

    if this is true, then its baffling to me why tommy would lose his mind and nearly kill himself thinking mosley was unbeatable after the botched assassination, without first simply checking with the phone exchange girls to see if any of his family gave up information. Really goes against his character that he would overreact to such a degree when he clearly had methods to identify a possible informant. My belief is this is not true. I'd say tommy did not believe any of his family who he told about the assassination plot would leak such information. He had already accused his whole family of betrayal before in season 3, after which he was proven wrong. So this time around it likely didn't strike him as a possibility. Which is why he kept repeating "it makes no sense" he was truly baffled by how some entity out there found out about his assassination plot and foiled it, which leads him to admit to arthur that mosley can't be beat.

    • @LonelyGothGirl
      @LonelyGothGirl 6 месяцев назад

      While I somewhat agree that Tommy was overreacting. I think it is mostly within character because over the course of the entire 5th season, Tommy was losing his mind. He is suicidal because he wants to be with Grace again. He feels so consumed with guilt that he blames himself for her death. And then the assassination attempt on Mosley fails. Which gets even more people killed. Thus fueling his guilt and feelings of failure even more and driving him to a suicide attempt.

    Did Finn even understand the situation that Billy was the informant that got his loved ones killed or almost killed? It just doesn’t seem realistic that Finn would still back Billy after finding out the shit Billy caused unless he’s simply too stupid to understand. I thought Finn could have been an amazing character study being the youngest that were raised by the brothers, in turn making him grow up to be one of the most savage yet level headed brothers but the show went the complete opposite way with Finn being a complete idiot and disloyal POS

    • @MessyMuzz

      Good point. we don't know what was said to Finn because Billy was beaten off camera. however we do know in the previous scene, Finn was saying in an authoritative manner "what the fook does that mean to Duke" very aggressive demanding answers. when the scene cuts back Finn is somewhat passive, he didn’t resist or show any hostility towards the crew. all after Billy was badly beaten in front of him, so they must’ve told him something. right?

    I just want to know why the hell they trusted Billy in the first place. I didn't understand that plot line at all. It was such a close-knit family and you need to do so much to earn respect like Isaiah did. It was weird that they never allowed Finn to grow and develop in terms of character, since he was always faithful to everyone and did everything everyone in the family asked of him since childhood. And his relationship with Billy was just strange. Why did they even need Billy in the first place? It's like Tommy intentionally created an incompetent, weakest link component.

      And no need to be rude about it or act like an a-hole... I did watch it, and paid attention, Billy just seemed like one character that was completely out of place in the show. I felt bad for him.

    In my opinion, he had something they wanted, but they knew he could never be trusted nor Fin. They tried to get as much as they could out of him, but also fck him over at the same time. So, he wanted Mosley to get assassinated on stage so he could take over his spot as the leader of the faschist party but why didn't he simply try to kill him himself in many meetings they had and then have some form of letter in which it states Thomas would take over? Like... I feel Thomas felt Mosley was such a viscious enemy that he played way too safe with him and he never had that perfect opportunity to waste him while it's simply not true. He had multiple chances to blow his head off but he never did it.

    Were Biily and Finn lovers? Was this the leverage the IRA and Nelson had, Billy was homosexual?

    It's a definite Shelby Family Flaw.
    Their inability to identify the snitch is an issue consistently throughout the series.

    It would be a bit strange for tommy not to do anything about it for four years but it would also be strange for it to take tommy four years to figure out it was billy so whatever way u look at it it's a bit strange

      from an strategic point of view, if you know you have a mole (black cat) and you know you can use him (to bait enemy into looking for Arthur on a place where he clearly isn't), why wouldn't you use him then? Making people believe the black cat was Michael while Billy keeps fucking around makes Tommy be always one step ahead, even with Finn. That way he could wash out the un-loyal (Billy and Finn) and keep the real ones (Isaiah and Duke)

      @@LS4B7 yes but how long can that last though if billy is always giving out wrong information to get tommy ahead sure that can go on for a while but he must have had to give him real information as well because otherwise they'll figure out pretty quickly that they are being played and will not trust any information billy gives them
