You spoke about Pasta getting keyed on his line, exact same thing happening to marchand. He's the only threat to score on that entire kine. It just looks worse because Marchand isn't able to overcome the double teams as much anymore.

Not saying he won't get better or eventually be great, but he's being paid to be Vezina contention but looks like borderline AHL level
Swayman hasn't been good. The team on the other hand has been a walking trash heap besides the fourth line and occasionally Pasta and Marchand. Montgomery then proceeded to break up the 4th line and spread them around the lineup looking to shake something up. There's a lot of new lines and Montgomery is trying to figure out who's going to play with who. I get that, but you don't break up the one thing that's been giving you any success. The defense has been a sieve. They'll get better. You don't know puck and they'll be playing when half the league is golfing in 6 months or so. Swayman is a top 5 goalie in the league with a team that's playing hockey the way they should in front of him. They will need another scorer if they want to go anywhere past a second round exit, unless they get a hot goalie which is a possibility.
I love how you approached it from stats point of view…numbers don’t lie. They just keep looking worse and worse, it’ll take a miracle to turn this train wreck around
This reminds me of the Bruins of the late 50s, the players that led them through a cup-less but competitive decade were aging, retiring or traded out, guys like Fleming Mackell, Johnny Peirson, Ed Sanford, Bill Quackenbush. And they really declined, they traded out their goalie Don Simmons, and tried to patch with the veterans they had left and whatever kids they could find in their farm system. It resulted in 8 seasons of futility. Blaming Swayman is a cop out, when the defense and the offense dries up, it's tough to shine. I think Swayman's numbers will eventually improve, will the Bruins improve? Maybe? As a Leafs' fan I hope not. Eventually great teams run out of juice, they might keep it going 2 years after their decline, but time catches up, and Sweeney kept gambling that they would be a contender.
I've been saying they need to get younger and faster for 3 years. So Sweeney signs Coyle, Lindholm(X2), and Zadorov for big money. All over 30. Also, last season they were only a .500 team after the All Star break. No one seemed to notice then, but they are still a .500 team now.
They had a busy off-season and are off to a very slow start. Swayman has played well enough. They're capped out, maybe a coaching trade. Bruins could just as easily be white hot in November and December and have their October forgotten.
It’s because Don Sweeney is allergic to Canadians. Compare the rosters from 2011 and 2013. He’s obsessed with the NCAA and it’s not paying off. The recent teams that have won were loaded with Canadian talent
Who were the lottery picks on the 2011 Bruins and 2019 Blues? Nothings coming to mind for me, the closest Blues had was Pietrangelo at 4th overall (not a lottery pick) unless I'm missing someone
@ seguin and bouwmeester. And the blues were the only team to win with a third overall pick, every other team had a second or first, and usually it was a first. This is the most overlooked aspect of contending for a cup, imo. Right along with the age of your 1C. No team in the cap era has won a cup with a 1C over age 30
I feel like the Jeremy Swayman contract negotiation at the beginning of the season has put a dark cloud over the entire organization… Hope they can turn it around
Reminiscent of the start to the 2011-2012 season... couldn't buy a goal during those first 10 games before going on a run the next 2 months. Felt like they didn't lose that winter. No two seasons are alike but mentioning this for the sake of precedent
When you look at who left the team last year, makes you wonder if they are really missing Jake DeBrusk and maybe even Danton Heinen. Not for their scoring, but just for their hard work on the middle lines. I don't think Grzelcyk is the difference.
Not scoring is rough, but you can win by NOT allowing them. Defensemen is big part, but so is the goalie(s). However, Boston is paying Swayman to be clear #1. He is not. I've never heard you not hold a player accountable until now with Swayman. He could be a great dude, a great teammate, and could still win Vezina every other year. But right now, he's brutal. Just call it like it is. Goalies are head cases and have to be considered as such when negotiating with them. He's not Shers or Vas, and frankly, he's lucky he's not being paid like them (or Shers will be) (like he wanted), and dang good Sweeney didn't
Bruins need another 40-goal scorer on the second line and two 20+ goal scorers on lines three and four. They also lack speed on transition and lack of speed is an enormous disadvantage in today's NHL. And right now, all their forwards are very poor back checkers.
Let me tell you what cuzziez. My Wings have been bad since I fully followed them in 2017. Nothing but potential joy to see the same on the other side for a change. Then again. 4 cups in 11 years. Can’t complain.
The Florida Panthers 🐆 brutally disfigured them two years ago in the first round and then again pounced on their fight last year and effectively ended their window …It’s a panthers jungle in the east now and everyone who wants to go to the Stanley cup final has to go through it

This reminds me of the David Backes signing. With almost every contract the bruins sign it’s “well I like it now, but the last 3 years will be rough.” And Sweeney has been handing draft picks out like candy. They lost Forsbaka-Karlsson, Beecher isn’t quite the yet. Idk if Sweeney knows he’s had a drafting and would rather dump the picks for a current player, but the key pieces they are missing you can only get during the draft. I like all the players but it feels like too little too late. For this season they just have like so many new core and younger players that things just aren’t meshing right now. Look at how inconsistent Lohrei has been. Get Big Z and Bergy in the room to give some heart to the boys
@@ChiefBlue4298only nine other teams have won a cup more recently. That leaves 22 with a longer drought than the Bruins. As a hater, I have no sympathy for what Boston fans are going through.

I envy what the Bruins have done all these years to sustain success but it seems like they held on for to long without some majoy changes/improvements. They remind me of the Sharks from 2018/2019 - at some point you have to pull the plug and rebuild. The Sharks held on for too long, signed horrible contract extensions, and are now in year 3 of a rebuild with another year or two of bad contract buyouts remaining.
Zacha Coyle Geekie is a solid 3rd line but a very weak 2nd line. Without Bergy and Krejci the offensive talent is gutted, having Pasta and Marchand as the only good wingers doesnt work without exceptional center depth. Those 2 made everyone around them better offensively, the team cant be built this way without them
tbh i felt they have been a powerhouse in the east since atleast they won in 2011. even tho they have missed playoffs since then, they had a strong foundation/core just like pends, wsh, rangers (kinda) from that 2011 win that made them a powerhouse in the east. and they found new stars to build around like rask, mcavoy, hamilton pasternak etc. they along with rangers, wsh and pens and tampa are the big ones in recent 10-15 years atleast.
Watched the game with Carolina last night, Boston looked so damn slow. Carolina was playing well but it definitely seems like Boston is trending toward the rebuild.
not shedding one tear. never have been a Boston fan. Signing two so so players for rich long term contracts did Boston follow Jim Bennings method of how to build a hockey team?
Right now, I'd say Ottawa - especially after absolutely dominating the Rangers in pretty much every way tonight except on the scoreboard (thanks to Shesterkin).
They got next to nothing for Ullmark. Their core is ageing, and now they've over committed to two players. Those players will also be old the last few years of those contracts. It's going to be a few years denying they need to rebuild, then a decade or more rebuilding.
Don Sweeney should absolutely be held accountable for this catastrophe. He had an awful summer when he had $20M to improve upon last year’s team who won 2 games in the 2nd round. He’s also been here for a decade now.
@@PaidShills Have you watched them play? It’s absolutely a catastrophe of a roster that should cause this team to be sellers at the deadline. It’ll be better for them long term anyways instead of making the playoffs just to get smacked by Florida again
Clean sweep. Keep the 4th line, Poitras, and Lorhei. Trade any and everyone else that you can, including Pastrnak, Swayman, and McAvoy. Don’t re-sign Marchand or Coyle. Fire Montgomery. Blow it all up and rebuild the team as a young, hard nosed group who wins battles along the boards, can kill penalties, exit their zone cleanly, and occasionally score.
Their best players have been brutal, not the new players. And brutal isn't hyperbole. Of course, this impacts special teams. There is no explanation for this.
I was thinking when I clicked that it's a bit early to be making this video, but when I listen to the underlying stats you bring up, that puts things in a different light. There is plenty of reason to be concerned for Bruins fans.
I’m not saying it’s exclusively a lack of effort, but it certainly looks that way. The years prior all seemed like the team was more motivated, or maybe just quicker with the puck. This year they look slow, and the offense (with the exception of the Montreal game) has been TERRIBLE
I thought they would fall a few years ago and they ended up having the greatest regular season in history. It’s looking like they might actually be bad FINALLY but, it’s still too early.
Great Video, as usual, Shannon - I still have no idea why they'd want to move on from Ullmark & Swayman Tandem. I know that you root for them, but, I think that all of the trades with My Chicago Blackhawks didn't help, at least, in losing all of the depth. Let me know what you think, especially where the Players (Mitchell & others), are at that went over from Chicago
It would objectively funny if the leafs finish first in the Atlantic division only for their reward to be to play Boston as one of the wildcards (and I say this as a leafs fan)
I think they need to look one rung above Sweeney and look at what Neely has actually done to help the team. As long as Cam is there, Sweeney feels invincible. Charlie and/or Jeremy needs to realize that Cam's figerprints are all over this past off-season (Zadorov, Max Jones) and realize he's not helping the organization. If those 2 are a package deal, they both need to bear the full brunt of the current state of this team.
I root for the Bruins, absolutely hate this vid bc it's absolutely true. We were crazy lucky to have Ullmark and Sway to save our butts the last couple seasons after Rask's injury/retirement but there's officially too much going wrong for any one player to carry.
I knew swayman would suck and not live up to it. So
Stupid to sign him to that contract.
It has begun. No doubt about it
Nope. It just takes time to adjust with couple of new players.
@@Megaerajormawrong
@Megaerajorma it shouldn’t be this bad
Who knew Jack Edwards was such a lightning rod for those players. They must've got off big time on his commentary and made them feel 10 feet tall.
I opened the video and my first thought was the board says BOOB I can't tell if I'm really funny or really sad
Funny
I saw it too!
hah! I didn't see it before but now that you mentioned it, I can't unsee it
Nice catch bro
They had a busy off-season and are off to a very slow start. Swayman has played well enough. They're capped out, maybe a coaching trade. Bruins could just as easily be white hot in November and December and have their October forgotten.
It’s because Don Sweeney is allergic to Canadians. Compare the rosters from 2011 and 2013. He’s obsessed with the NCAA and it’s not paying off. The recent teams that have won were loaded with Canadian talent
exactly-they are tougher, more talented-the best players in the world but moron Sweeney who needs to be fired can't see that and never will!
Canes just put the final nail in the coffin
It’s been 12 games 😂
@ cope
Maybe they’re just switching things up. Starting bad and then they’ll have a great playoff run. I can be optimistic right?
That’s what happens when you don’t draft well
Every cup winner in the cap era has had a lottery pick on the roster
That’s all that needs to be said
Who were the lottery picks on the 2011 Bruins and 2019 Blues? Nothings coming to mind for me, the closest Blues had was Pietrangelo at 4th overall (not a lottery pick) unless I'm missing someone
@ seguin and bouwmeester. And the blues were the only team to win with a third overall pick, every other team had a second or first, and usually it was a first. This is the most overlooked aspect of contending for a cup, imo. Right along with the age of your 1C. No team in the cap era has won a cup with a 1C over age 30
@@BasementBodybuildingthere are very few #1 C in the nhl over 30. It isn't really surprising
I feel like the Jeremy Swayman contract negotiation at the beginning of the season has put a dark cloud over the entire organization… Hope they can turn it around
Agreed. I think it hurt morale.
We can hope for some new faces in the playoffs with this trend
Buffalo
Reminiscent of the start to the 2011-2012 season... couldn't buy a goal during those first 10 games before going on a run the next 2 months. Felt like they didn't lose that winter. No two seasons are alike but mentioning this for the sake of precedent
When you look at who left the team last year, makes you wonder if they are really missing Jake DeBrusk and maybe even Danton Heinen. Not for their scoring, but just for their hard work on the middle lines. I don't think Grzelcyk is the difference.
Devils advocate; cap space doesn’t score goals either. Sure you can trade with cap space but that is relying on the charitable nature of others.
He's not Shers or Vas, and frankly, he's lucky he's not being paid like them (or Shers will be) (like he wanted), and dang good Sweeney didn't
they/ve already been shut out 3 times because they can't score!!!
Swayman contract gonna haunt them early.
Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov are costing them nearly 13 million in cap space. It's not the Swayman deal haunting them.
Yes indeed
Dont forget pastrnak
Dude, I'm a huge fan. I have to know, how many hockey jerseys do you have and do you still have your first one?
In 2022 it was the Red Sox. Last year it was the Patriots. Now it’s the Bruins. Boston sports has come crashing down the mountain
Hey they got the Celtics at least
At least they got my Celtics
At least the Celtics still look great?
@@ChiefBlue4298 2025 The Celtics "come crashing down the mountain" the way things are going?
Yes, one year later than everybody thought.
Zacha seems to be back in his previous form, where he could not hit an empty net if it would scream at him.
Thanks for the video! Original Six, baby! Go, Blackhawks!
Bruins need another 40-goal scorer on the second line and two 20+ goal scorers on lines three and four. They also lack speed on transition and lack of speed is an enormous disadvantage in today's NHL. And right now, all their forwards are very poor back checkers.
They bought in Lindholm but he not helping. And they have Zad plus Hanpus Coyle Mcavoy Zacha Pasta. They are not gutted.
Come on yall.. lets get this video to 50k. The subject is deserving
Let me tell you what cuzziez.
My Wings have been bad since I fully followed them in 2017.
Nothing but potential joy to see the same on the other side for a change.
Then again. 4 cups in 11 years. Can’t complain.
Do they need a player like Hainan or the daBrusk that add speed
Yes, and it's about time! I was shocked they were as good as they were last year.
The Florida Panthers 🐆 brutally disfigured them two years ago in the first round and then again pounced on their fight last year and effectively ended their window …It’s a panthers jungle in the east now and everyone who wants to go to the Stanley cup final has to go through it
You think there's a coaching issue or are they just snake bit? I haven't been impressed with the line blender so I'm curious what you like about Monty.
I picked a good stretch of the season to be busy doing other things when the Bruins are being played.
The bill has come due on trading so many picks in recent years. Eleven games in I won't start biting my nails until the all star break.
You did this to jinx the crap out of them before they play Philly. With your superpowers and control over the universe. I saw the Dr. Strange cape.
All that money given to Swayman when he has never carried the load of a no.1 goalie. Risky.
We suck. Oh well… still gonna watch. Can’t stick with a team when they’re down, don’t be around when we’re up.
I’ll remember that when people stop going to the games, and you see empty seats in the arena
@ the bruins have had sold out games consistently for 15 years. Bostons a hockey town.
@@johnochiltree1170 Boston has also had a really good team for the last 15 years and been to the Stanley Cup Finals twice in that time winning one of them
@@TrueMr.Quinn1 so when the team was selling out the fleet center in the 90s and 80s the team was garbage, what was the excuse then? Also, what a weird thing to say, that you’ll remember my comment, like I’m somehow going to sell out the garden myself or in some way responsible for it not having people in the seats. Boston is a sports town and no matter how bad the team is the games are always sold out. Patriots are 2-6 and guess what the seats are always packed.
@@johnochiltree1170 lol you are taking it so much more personal than it really is and I think that is so adorable and precious 😂 why do you take my comment as such a personal attack when it’s not? Are you okay? Like do you need a hug? 🤗
Shannon is absolutely right about Boston, and i have to admit it even as Boston Bruins fan...even with Krejčí and Bergeron in line up, there were parts of the season, when they've struggled to score goals, and their offense has been abysmal in play offs...now, i think, they are clearly at worse position, and like Sahnnon pointed out, there is no easy way out
This reminds me of the David Backes signing.
At least they have won a Cup.
Should have won more, especially if Don drafted better. He is a bum
13 years ago…

@@ChiefBlue4298only nine other teams have won a cup more recently. That leaves 22 with a longer drought than the Bruins.
As a hater, I have no sympathy for what Boston fans are going through.
i mean i guess but not with this regime. the only person on this roster on that cup team is marchand. sweeney wasn’t the GM and monty was (obviously) not the coach. i say this as a bruins fan, that cup ain’t mean shit in this conversation imo
They still lack a dominant center, another elite winger, and depth on D.
It's almost like it's a bad idea to give away your best goalie without having the replacement signed and causing a fuss to disrupt the team.
Bergeron and Krejci were obviously important on jce, but their presence and leadership was key.
Just keep the lines in place, with Marchand Lindholm Pasta and Zacha Coyle Geekie and let them figure it out. We know who these players are.
And poitras, Fredric, and whoever on the third. And kastelic Koepke and Beecher on the 4th
My favourite video of the year!!!!
As a flames fan, I would be cool with Zadorov in the lineup if the contract was under 2.5 million imo. Nothing more than that!
Hold on save percentage as a team is 91% but both goalies are sub 890 who’s doing the math
Mty net.
Maybe they count blocks as saves?
This may be their year of being on the wild-card bubble.
How is the team save % higher than the save % of either goalie?
not shedding one tear. never have been a Boston fan. Signing two so so players for rich long term contracts did Boston follow Jim Bennings method of how to build a hockey team?
If Boston falls out of the top 4 in the division, who moves up above Boston and into the playoffs? Ottawa? Buffalo? Detroit?
@kevinbrisolara4848 Can Ottawa move up past Boston? That could get interesting at the end of the year.
Right now, I'd say Ottawa - especially after absolutely dominating the Rangers in pretty much every way tonight except on the scoreboard (thanks to Shesterkin).
@blackenedmagic888 That's the age-old problem of, "the only stat that counts is goals." Lots of sports teams have had that problem over many years.
They got next to nothing for Ullmark. Their core is ageing, and now they've over committed to two players. Those players will also be old the last few years of those contracts.
It's going to be a few years denying they need to rebuild, then a decade or more rebuilding.
Time to bring back Mike Milbury as head coach. He is the perfect man to coach this franchise.
I remember the sharks were in a similar situation years ago. It's Boston turn to fall
I think the Penguins are going to fall before the Bruins.
@FischerFan most likely
The Captain needing an extension affects the room?
It's been painful watching the bruins play lately very sad times ahead for them I see unfortunately
Don Sweeney should absolutely be held accountable for this catastrophe. He had an awful summer when he had $20M to improve upon last year’s team who won 2 games in the 2nd round. He’s also been here for a decade now.
4-6-1 = catastrophe lmao.
they will be fine, I’m surprised bruins fans are so quick to hit the panic button.
@@PaidShills Have you watched them play? It’s absolutely a catastrophe of a roster that should cause this team to be sellers at the deadline. It’ll be better for them long term anyways instead of making the playoffs just to get smacked by Florida again
@@PaidShills True Bruin fans need to chill though Sweeney got to go.
The line changes Monty makes on a per game basis i believe are sewering this offense.
No. They have good goalie, good defense, offense +/-. It’s much more than other teams have. Need 1st line center!
Having Marchand as captain was a bad move. Zero captain tendencies in him. There’s too much pest.
I was hoping you would cover this. I needed to hear the reality by someone who know what they are talking about!
They both didn't want to rotate anymore
@Bruins-vq5ey Thank You for your comment. It was still a very botched move, to move one before signing the other. Let me know what you think
The 2 year pause on the downfall was nice but it has definitely arrived
save percentage is brutal
Monty was just fired, season's down the drain it feels like.
"...in general - you look at their game 7 track record over the years... anyways..."
Toronto would like to have a word.... :P
I'm not counting them out yet, feels like bad karma would ensue 😅
It would objectively funny if the leafs finish first in the Atlantic division only for their reward to be to play Boston as one of the wildcards (and I say this as a leafs fan)
Yes, I’ve been waiting 13 years
Dear Shannon, please bring back Team xy goes to the powerplay -> does it suck?
We're looking like the 2019-2020 Sharks right now
We all hope so...
