    Ever practiced something really challenging a hundred times, and when standing on that stage you just ended up playing the pentatonic scale up and down? #pentatonicislife

      I'm more a intermediate player but i can play some really challenging stuff, every time someone wants me to play something i don't know what to do and just play scale runner and chrods plus simple notes. People are amazed but i feel ashamed

      Kudos for the video content! Sorry for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Riddleagan Blossoming Solo Remedy (search on google)? It is an awesome one off guide for mastering guitar scales minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my BF after many years got astronomical success with it.

      SuperXD44 you should only feel ashamed if you need to hide your true talent to please other people! Don’t do that my friend, never stop learning and don’t just learn by the book. Try to play with feeling, mix up single notes from scales to create your own solo/riff. Wish you luck buddy

    Just so I'm understanding on a real practical level...
    1. Learn all 5 shapes for Pentatonic on all 12 Root Notes
    2. Memorize the map of the fretboard.
    3. Shred.

    I started doing the same with the major scale and just changing notes here and there to produce the modes. Make sense and it's not loads of stuff to remember. Also gives you a base to go back to at any time.

    There is no substitute for knowledge of the fretboard and music theory. Practice, practice and practice and memorize.

But now I can literally point to a random note on the fretboard and go up and down the major or minor pentatonic and find the corresponding chords and inversions easily! So satisfying!

    Why do so many guitarists scoff at pentatonic scales? Shredder snobs I call them. Paul Gilbert, king of shred said it best, “There’s a reason pentatonic scales are played so much. Because pentatonics are GOOOD!” Most guitarist think of pentatonic lick as staying inside the “box”. There are so many ways to play a pentatonic scale that make them sound so good.

    Great video Paul! Hope this will improve my pentatonics. Also, could you consider making a video about playing with your wrist resting on the bridge? Saw a vid recently which pointed out loads of legends don't rest their wrist on the bridge, and that it also opens up one's playing. I found it very difficult to play with, however. I think you can shed some light onto this!

    • @xcodychaosx
      @xcodychaosx 3 года назад

      Really you only want to rest your hand on the bridge when palm muting not all the time one song that makes you keep your hand off the strings is lateralus by tool its in drop d and he strums the open D and lets it ring out like a gong while he goes into the riff adds a nice layer of sound around everything hes playing

    1. So basically find all the Gs

Then what are the patterns for which root note? Do I have to memorize these or is there a system that works for you? Can you make a video elaborating this?
