    Byron, playing an old NY Bach, and a Bach 1 mouthpiece. Not a 1C, a 1. A cannon. He just doesn't miss.

    That’s some of the most brilliant and powerful trumpet tone I’ve ever heard

    I was lucky enough to hear Byron live several times. He's one of the underappreciated masters of the horn.

    This was arranged by the drummer, Dennis Mackrel, who directed the Utah All-State Jazz Band, when we played this. Pretty cool guy.

    I can't believe I'm only now hearing this in 2021. At 36 years old, and Night in Tunisia being my favorite song. This is maybe the best trumpet solo I've ever heard.

    Byron was only 24 at the time this was recorded. im almost 30 now and wish i had half the skill level he did back then.

    I think this is the best version I've heard of Night in Tunisia. Great playing all around.

    One of the most under rated trumpet players around! Huge sound, can solo with amazing feeling and accuracy and can powerful play lead without sounding "thin" like many players today. It's ALL about the quality of the sound!

    Man, this guy is one of the greats!!! I have most of Basie’s albums. That same year I saw Harry James and his orchestra I thought I had died and went to heaven, later the Woody Herman band.

    Doesn't get much better than this. What it means to be a "lead" player. Chops with sound.

    Duke Ellington is a philosopher of big band, where the sounds are the colors of a painting;

    THIS IS Soooo JAZZY! JUST THE WAY I LOVE JAZZ TO BE PLAYED. AND, CAN'T BRYON BLOW THAT TRUMPET WHILE HE IS SWINGING? I'M SWINGING WITH HIM. THE BAND IS SO GREAT. THE DRUMMER IS JUST KEEPING IT ALL TOGETHER AND HE DOESN'T MISS A BEAT. I LOVE DRUMS! SYLVIA -FL 9/19
