    And Thad Jones would pass away the following year, August 20, 1986 (aged 63)
    Such a pair of losses.
    To coin a phrase, If there's a jazz heaven, you know they got a hell of a band.

    Thad Jones is the man had the pleasure to work for him with the Basie orchestra, subbing for baritone great Johnny William's for a week ,and let me tell you it was going to the promise land

    Omg this is what a big band should sound like. Mr. Basie, who passed away the year before, was looking down and smiling.
    Shout choruses have given way to more solos and less ensemble playing. For me, this is as good as it gets.

    Dennis Makrel is my favorite Basie drummer. I think that is Lynn Seaton on bass.

    Amazing performance. This is what big band jazz is all about. Wish the Basie Band would record this on a new CD without a live audience. The 2 versions of "The Heat's On" available on CD are not up to par compared to this performance. Kenny Hing's solo is his best version of this classic. God I miss the Count...James, Columbus, OH

      This is the best version I have heard, and Kenny sounding great. I find concerts bring out the best in Basie. Dennis Mackerel is a great big band drummer - wonderful break before the crescendo. A pleasure that he is now leading the Band.

    well personally I think Thad's conducting is a bit redundant and as for the drummer, he aint bad but I think he's a bit heavy handed, it ain't jazz/rock; can't listen to Basie without hearing the long list top drummers he had working for him.

      Dude what, it’s a heavy handed song! How could you.

    • @joksal9108
      @joksal9108 Год назад

      The drummer is a little heavy, true-in his fills. And the Basie band never needed a conductor. Good tenor solo.

    • @BW73340
      @BW73340 3 месяца назад

      @@NINT3ND0masterit does feel a little less heavy because of the fact that the tenor solo is different and the piano plays chords during it. The original is hot with a hot drummer! So the drummer tried to play like that! You are right but I see where he’s coming from
