    Tough work, well done. I can understand you not wanting to poison the weeds but burning them is not a bad thing, the ashes are good for the soil.

    A petrol weed wacker would have saved a lot of work, they also create natural fertilizer from the chopped up bits that you can use as compost once it breaks down, we cut Toxo(gauze) andleave it from one year to the next then dig it in to the ground for organic matter. Though noisy the weed wacker gets the work done quickly leaving time for other things. Its a dirty job cleaning out the inside, when we did ours we had to strip off to the buff, wash and put on clean clothes so as not to transfer any bugs and the like to where we were staying. Using a gadaña is not easy, my wife brought up using one from a child was pretty good, the first time I tried I cut my small toe, they are very sharp and don't know the difference between grass and skin, they just cut.

    And do some research before you jump into a project! You’ll save yourselves a lot of money and effort! Flattened cardboard boxes placed over the bramble bushes would make a lot of sense. And in the garden, too, as paper will not last long enough to do any good. Chalk it up to a lesson learned and move forward!

    Please please please get checked for tick-Bourne diseases. They carry horrible life changing diseases. Diseases that get worse as time goes by! Antibiotics can take care of it/them if you catch it early enough.
    Some early symptoms are extreme tiredness, deep muscle aches, insomnia. Please explain to your doctor why you want the testing. They should order the blood draws immediately. If not, find another doctor who is sympathetic to your concerns.
    I didn’t have anyone to check me, and I ended up with Lyme disease, and it made some very painful changes to my body.
    After that, I am enjoying watching your efforts on your property! It’s a beautiful place!
    Why so long before you can live there? Some folks on RUclips are making a good living- enough to build their dreams! But you have to post regularly to keep your viewers- jump in with both feet !! And good luck!!

      They have to wait up to 18 months for the Water Dept. for approval, then many more months for approval of building plans and then a third round of approvals so, they cannot do anything to the buildings until all their plans are approved. It sounds a lot longer than Italy.

    • @WaleandMe
      @WaleandMe  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Patty! So sorry to hear you got Lyme disease and that it has impacted you so greatly. Hope you've found ways of making the changes more manageable. I'm pretty sure that my doctor was checking for Lyme when getting all my labs done, but I'll make sure to double check in case. It is a scary possibility with having so many ticks here.
      Also, just wanted to clarify that it will take us very long before we can live there because of the lengthy permit processes necessary to renovate those types of buildings here. Although once the permits are ready money will of course be a concern. But it's fine, we're focusing on enjoying the process ☺

    Looks like you are making good progress. We had to do something similar with our property - an old abandoned homestead of my wife's grandparents. Just some advice - I would by a medium sized strimmer (Stihl or Husqvana) and small petrol powered chainsaw (same brands) to do the work for you. What you have cut down will grow back at some point so these will keep on top of it.

    future gardens will benefit from the sheep's wool as a soil conditioner. Get a wood chipper, great investment, the sapling trees will turn to wood chip and make excellent garden mulch. The straw, likewise makes excellent 'no dig' raised gardens, layers of each of these three resources to use for your future garden

    Our fruit trees here in Turlock California we place carton cover or chicken wire fence because animal will eat the tree stem or truck. P.s. if you continue to do less you will never get strong. Don't kill yourself but you need to have strength if you won't be able to pick fruit or prepare for vegetables its alot of works.
