  • We’ve just moved into a stone cabin in mountains of Cantabria, Spain, and we’re not ready for the fast approaching winter. So this week we take you with us as we try and tackle an ever-growing to do list that includes gathering wood, buying supplies and checking our roof.

    I am so glad I found you crazy people. It's not often you find "real" people with "real" emotions in this age of RUclips. Never EVER play up to the camera, stay just like you are. I hope I speak for many that you two are a fresh bit of air. Stay safe and healthy!!!!!

      You have no idea how much this comment means to us. We're just trying to show up authentically ourselves, with the ups and downs. But we have gotten some hate for it, which in turn has led to insecurities blooming. So thank you. Really ❤

    The avacado tree is still alive, because it has green growing at the base One thing that needs to be done with any fruit or nut tree is must put a protection fence or minimum of something to protect the bark of trees

      Thanks for the tip! We hoped that by fencing off the area they would be protected, but clearly need to do it individually. We'll definitely put something around and hope it recovers🤞🙂

    The thing about building something (almost) from nothing means that there is a LOT of back breaking work in the beginning (I know because I bought a house that had been abandoned for a year). Adding in the aspect of a hard winter and Werner has the right idea about the wood. You BOTH will appreciate it when you go through wood quickly in winter. Good luck!!

      You're so right! There's so much work one doesn't even begin to imagine unless you've lived through a similar situation. Thanks for your support and hope your own efforts and home are coming along nicely ☺

      @@WaleandMe I forgot to mention that I bought my house several years ago and should have said that it does get better as you go along. Give yourself two years to really see the results of your work. The good part is that you will know everything about your property.

    With a avo tree
    Put it in a pot
    Wen Frost comes
    Move it into shade
    Do this for 2 to 3 years until plant is strong

    If you hold a candle near walls, windows, doors etc, you’ll be able to see where there are drafts because the candle will flicker.

    So it looks like the Finca is in pretty good condition and nice of the neighbours to provide that wood - saves a lot of hassle of having to cut your own or buy it in. I would put up some strong netting around your trees - we've had problems with deer chomping our fruit trees and learnt the hard way.
    Good practical work on the chimney and beams - way to go.

    • @WaleandMe
      @WaleandMe  4 месяца назад

      We'll definitely have to put netting around our trees because the goats have gone at them 😅

    Wow! Vais avanzando mucho! Difícil prepararse con el invierno pisándoos los talones. El tejado!!! es impresionante con esas losas de pizarra de la zona, qué huecos entre losas! buenas casas para animales, sí. Esperemos que no sean ratas! ya nos contaréis quien vive con vosotros ;) En vuestra tierra se os ve muy contentos, está claro, es vuestro lugar. Tener que esperar tanto tiempo a que os den los permisos es toda una prueba de paciencia y de resiliencia! Best wishes!

    Try to plant more avocado plants. And when they are stronger and bigger, you source an avocadoplant that has good edible avocados. You have to 'ent' (I don't know the English word) branches of the good avocado on the other trees. Avocados are just like apples. The seeds won't lead to trees with avocados of the same kind.

    Hola , your panels are fine ,it’s irrelevant what size panels are it’s the amount really so 6x250 w ...1500 watt is good but for winter more better but then you would have to upgrade your system . Panels will be good , should have life span of 25 years . Yes make sure you keep water topped up in batteries .

    • @WaleandMe
      @WaleandMe  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah, you're right about the size of the panels, but we'll definitely need a bigger system, since this system doesn't generate enough for our electricity needs 😅

    🧡🧡💛💛💚💚💙💙💜💜🤍🤍💔💔Hola pareja que envidia sana me dais, es precioso el lugar, y por experiencia os puedo decir mas trabajáis, mas querréis el lugar mas tarde, mas difícil mas amor despues!! ahora deciros que el aguacate es un árbol necesita estar cerca mar pues las heladas y y la nieve matan a el árbol, y el viento no les gusta nada y si es frio mucho menos!! despues es un tipo de arboles necesitan de 4 a 6 años para dar fruto para la primera vez y segundo y muy importante tienen genero es decir hay arboles masculinos y otros femeninos, los profesionales mezclan 5 arboles femeninos por 1 masculino!! pero siempre es bueno probar pues yo vivo en la Sierra del Guadarrama hace mucho frio en invierno y a veces grandes nevadas, pues tengo 2 naranjos y un limonero pegado a un muro alto de piedra y orientados al sur y ya despues de 6 años me dan limones y naranjos,, todo es probar1 y buscar solo luciones!!
    Feliz fin de año y Gelukkig nieuwjaar en tot ziens!!
