The Hong Kong Observatory issued the maximum No 10 hurricane signal on the evening of September 1, 2023, as Super Typhoon Saola approached the city with all residents advised to stay indoors. The No 10 signal is the highest on the Observatory's scale, and means that winds with mean speeds of 110km/h (68mph) or more are expected. Schools were closed, bus and ferry services were suspended and the city's MTR trains operated at reduced frequency. Earlier in the day, the former head of the observatory, Lam Chiu-ying, had urged residents to "brace for the worst". Shoppers cleared supermarket shelves of fresh food and more than 460 flights at Hong Kong's international airport were cancelled ahead of the storm's arrival.

The responds to Typhoon Saola by the Hong Kong Government and its people, it's amazing! They have rescued and picked up fallen trees fast, hospitals are responding to the patients accordingly, etc, etc. I am very impressed with how they stand by and ready for this huge typhoon that arrived suddenly. It was incredible how quick and super fast they are, the speed of their own, a class of its own, fabulous, if I may say so. They couldn't avoid how much damage the typhoon could cause but they were responding to the damage amazingly! Well Done Hong Kong people! You deserve a medal for the speedy responds to emergencies of this multitude! The other parts of the world should learn from Hong Kong people...

Apparently many morons don't understand what a typhoon is or can't look outside the glass window.
Airlines employee can't tell mother nature to stop it so that these people can fly. No airlines in the world will compensate for any natural disasters.
2 weeks ago we had hurricane Hilary in southern California, we were lucky to only had light rain 🌧️ and it flooded Vegas and Death valley instead, they welcome the rain.

I underestimated this one. Yesterday late evening i went out to buy some emergency food stock. Almost all stores were closed, even the ones that never closed like 7-11stores. The scene was apocalyptic wind gales were raging as if it were going to hit you like a truck. Fire truck sirens blazing everywhere, taking U-turns every streeky was the shade of dark i had never seen. Torrential rain lashed sideways sometime from south, then from the west, then from the north. It felt as if Nature was trying claim some souls that evening

118kph wind is strong but its not house-destruction strong. HK should be ok. We experience 200-250kph typhoons many times a year and everythings ok. Key is early preparation. Those living on the coastline is in real danger of floodings though especially when typhoon hits at the height of high tide

And somehow Hong Kong, a city of 7.4 million, has a total GDP that dwarfs the GSDP of the wealthiest state in India that has a population over 15 times larger. Also, human life seems to be more fragile in your part of the world in the face of tropical cyclones. Two former British colonies, two very different trajectories. Curious isn't it
