Hong Kong has been directly in the path of incredibly strong typhoons in the past few decades. The storms have wreaked havoc on the city, causing deaths and significant property damage. But over the years, Hong Kong has adapted and improved infrastructure to better withstand the massive storms, efforts that paid off with substantially fewer casualties being reported starting in the late 1970s. But every few years when a superstorm hits, the city feels the wrath of nature's fury.

I've lived in both Hong Kong and Tokyo. Experienced over 500 typhoons in my life. The funny thing is that in both cities, many people still go to work when typhoon hits the city hard.
Just reading almost all your comments in SCMP videos, I learned some of your life experience.
Like... you got married in Jumbo resto, but unfortunately you can't see it again. Lol
I guess that reflects on the work culture in these countries where even extended overtime is not considered a big deal .
I still remember Mangkhut; it was scary!
Typhoons are quite common. The devastation and damage they bring along is immense.
Before reaching Hongkong, typhoon would first devastate Philippine. Hongkong will always check the damage cause in the Philippines.
I'll always remember typhoon York! Cause it was crazy and then all of a sudden it was calm when the eye passed over! That's when I saw the rim of the eye and the blue sky in the middle! First time in my life I've ever seen the eye of the storm!
it is what it is
Our house was destroyed in 1962 by Typhoon Wanda .
Wait typhoons actually causes damages? My perception of typhoon is merely just another passing rain storm.
Not necessarily harmful to us
True, but that is with modern infrastructure. The Americans have yet to catch up to Hong Kong when it comes to building codes.
如果你看了評論,那你就會知道我也是那正在做功課的一員😢
Nothing can happens to Hongkong as , it is immune to Tropical Storms and Disasters and Wars . Simple logic and Common Sense is there are Several Forts and and defensive mechanism natural and human induced mechanism to prevent and Shield Hongkong as Safeguards to WithStand all Dangers Mechanism .

One of the first!
China is famous for its sponge cities. 😂😂
the infrastructure now couldnt compare to what it was in the 80s.
My condolences to the millions of *Hong kongers🇭🇰* who lost their land, *voting rights and freedom of speech* after being
*- brutally crushed* by the police and
*- lied to* by the Chinese regime's promise to keep their Hong Kong the same for 50 years.
One things is for sure. Nothing will ever be the same again.
