    Thanks so much. I just ran over the garden hose with the lawn mower and jerked the pipe loose. I had to run inside and watch a video on how to turn the water off at the meter. Luckily, I had the tool, just couldn't figure out what to fit it to. You're a life-saver!

    Thanks for the video. When referring to the hardware store, it seemed you were saying the cut off key is available there. Is the meter key also available at the hardware store??

      At any lowes or home depot. I got mine for $3 it was on sale, but normally go from $13 to $25

    Why aren’t your shutoff values inside?

    • @alanbreese6875
      @alanbreese6875 9 месяцев назад +1

      Because there's typically no place to put it inside. Your water service line comes into your home underground, and from there is distributed to the fixtures in your home underneath the concrete slab. This is largely done for cost reasons, and to conserve expensive materials. As such, there is no single location inside your home where you can shut off water to the entire home. This has changed to some degree in recent years, where the home has a "breaker panel" with a master valve & individual values which allow shutoff to each room individually, and the whole home as well. Those types of panels are typically in the garage, so line breaks or leaks between the meter and panel could not be disabled at the panel.

    Why people doing this, bolt cutters, meter key, and valve wrench, buy these things for probably 70$ total. They come out and turn it off and lock the meter, cut the lock and turn it back on yourself. Just don't get caught cutting the lock or anything. Then dispose of lock in nearby lake and deny all knowledge of this happening, rinse, lather, repeat, wtf they gonna do, they can't camp outside your house 24/7

      The meter, technology and valve belong to the City, and if you break anything they can charge you for repair or replacement. The meter + technology + valve is worth about $500 today, not including labor.
