Jay ( if I may ) I want to thank you once again for allowing us drooling guys and gals to see the automotive world that we would never really get to see . Your a down to earth gentleman and I respect that .
My wife and I spent 3 days leading the XDiavel demo days in Atlanta, GA earlier this year. It was a last minute deal for us to lead the rides and up to that point, neither one of us knew anything about the new XDiavel. I was familiar with the original Diavel, but not the new XDiavel. Surprisingly for both of us, we came away after 3 days or finding the bike totally impressed by the XDiavel. My wife especially who is not a fan of cruisers at all and is on the petite side was totally in love with the bike. Even though it appears on the larger side, she loved riding it and found it so easy to ride it aggressively. Ducati did a great job with this bike! Another surprising aspect we found from the demo rides is that we would start everyone in touring mode to give them the full power, but not the snappiness of sport mode. They could take a 2nd ride and then we would show them how to change modes and try them all. It turned out quite a few people actually enjoyed Urban mode, especially in that 35-55mph range. We ourselves felt that Urban mode worked very well and gave the bike a nice kick in the lower RPM grunt area. Sport mode was certainly a lot of fun when you really wanted to kick it up. There were a couple places we really got to lean the bikes over and again I was blown away with how much lean angle you could get from this bike and how well it handled in the turns! Great review Jay!
One of these days I'd love to shake Jays hand, He's a real down to earth kinda guy period. He's genuinely into motorcycles and cars and understands their beauty, grace, styling and the freedoms you get while riding these terrific machines. Thanks Jay!
+Armedlegally I watched this and had a similar thought. Just a guy in blue jeans , not designer blue jeans . Just a regular guy that has been really blessed and sharing all this with us . If I ever watched anything in a binge manner, it would be Jay Leno's Garage. A true automotive enthusiast and historian to the marrow that we all benefit from.
Hello Jay: Thanks for this great website. I'm an 78 year old guy that has a very long bike riding history. British origionally and emigrated to Canada when I was 15 Y/O. I started with a 47 Ariel 500cc, single, basket case and then a 1950, 1000cc Square Four. I then had a bunch of them. I usually bought them in pieces , fixed them up and sold them. The last Square four. (One of the last!) It was a 1957, Series, 2. It was really smooth, and very quick. I had a twin 700cc twin Royal Enfield and then moved over to Hondas. I had three Honda, 4 cylinder bikes and a 250cc single scrambler, the last Honda I had was a early '90s 900 cc inline 4, a great bike. I 'm staying in the Baja, Mexico at this time and have just finished refurbishing a 2005, 798 cc Ducati Monster Twin. What a great bike!! I loved working on it an even rode it for a bit. Anyway , I'd like to thank you again for your really great web site , I really enjoy everything , your really eclectic collection of great bikes and cars. I Also had a few nice Brit cars, a "57, 6 cylinder E-Type 4.2 liter , 2+2 , in British racing green also a '74 XJ12 also in BRG and so on. Jay, I tell people that If I ever come back in this world, If I have a choice, I would love to come back as Jay Leno. Thanks again for all you do Jay. Terry Southgate
Jason seems very knowledgeable of his own brand. A lot of times Jay gets these CEOs and Presidents on here who don't know what the hell they are talking about and almost make themselves look foolish. This is a nice change.
I don't think either of them talked like they knew anything. Jay kept talking about crank torque and con rods and the CEO talked about unlinking breaks to "flat track" it. Wonder if he's ever had to make a U turn? And a "tractable" 156 hp. Yeah it's tractable because the electronics cut the ignition to keep the tires from spinning. You could get the same *real* power across the band with a much less powerful and less complex machine. On the bright side, he didn't wear a tie.
As the owner of a 2020 XDs now for 4 years, I can tell you it is fantastic in stock form but once you add the Termi exhaust with the upmap, it’s simply amazing. Wakes the bike up like you can’t imagine and it sounds unbelievable.
Great to see the master back on 2 wheels - seemed decidedly non plussed by the whole affair when in the garage but seemed to lighten up a bit when on the road - you can always trust 2 wheels to make you feel better! ...and I agree, California is a fabulous place to ride a bike, loved my time on the vanilla Diavel there this time last year.....great bike....
Good video. When the CEO of Ducati talks Jay crosses his arms like he's not really interested in what he says as Jay knows pretty much the answers. When Jay talks he unfolds his arms. When the CEO had more to say Jay starts up the bike,LOL. Classic Jay.I like Jay because of his quirks and the cool person that he is as nothing really fazes him.
+Johnny Nightrider I had the same impression from the video. The CEO was an excellent listener, he waited for Jay to finish everything he was saying, not jumping in too early as if he was just waiting for his time to talk.
+Johnny Nightrider I felt a little bad for the CEO in this one. The disrespectful regard from Jay was quite clear and I wondered what was underlying it. The comment 'at least your not wearing a tie' was quite telling. Jay seems to really like the guys who do the build themselves the real visionaries and it seems he hasn't got much time for the suits. Can't blame him... I thought the bike was really interesting and striking too!
+Johnny Nightrider so true,he's a master of asking questions then when they begin to reply he wanders off to look at something else or interrupts hahaha cracks me up
The first thing I said to the wife when I got home from reviewing it last week was I'm glad I don't have an extra 22k laying around because I'd have a new XDiavel S in the garage!
must be nice to live a country where this is 22k dollars... In Denmark it is 66k dollars ... No One asked me if we are the happiest people in the world! I am not even allowed to shoot the survey people when they trespass! :-)
Getting back into riding after a decade off. Jay brought my attention to this bike and I drove one this weekend. Gorgeous bike and so fast and nimble for a cruiser. Really is a class of its own. You can find these a lot cheaper used now as well.
Did you get one? I just got mine brand new for £14,999! Steel and am so looking forward to riding her:) Got two now, my old Rocket and now this........
Harley has made some similar to this recently...not sure what they're called but I saw one at a dealership and it looked similar to this bike. I'd sure take either one.
Really enjoyed your report on the 701. I have recently bought a 401 Svartpillen and cannot believe how fantastic it is. I ha only positives too say... not a single negative.. it’s not a super bike or a Harley, but my mate has a Harley and wants to swop Out with me. It’s just ticks every box.. Beautiful power range, amazing brakes and at 155kg in weight it is just a pleasure to ride. You just fee in total control on the road and on the dirt. I’m 63 years old. I have found my dream bike. No it’s not a KYM duke, it’s a brand new Husky 2018 technology. You need RUclips one to appreciate what I’m saying ... Cheers, Ken Taylor
LOVE the Galaxie 500 in the background ! , my 1st car was a 65 Galaxie 500 , 289 FMX trans , the 63 is my favorite , whether the 390 with 4 speed manual or the 427 love the body lines !
Yup. Can't tell if that's 'age+running out of time', or if it was 'nobody cares what you're talking about, I wanna hear it running'. Either way, it equals 'rude'.
So I went down to the Ducati dealership and bought myself a COMPUTER. It has 50 driving modes, 51 riding modes, and a light up LED display. It makes a "beep-boop" sound as I go down the road!
Every time I see Jay's garage videos I get a little more dead because I will never have as cool as a any car as he has, but then I'm alive again because he has the best garage ever.
I had a 2002 Ducati 748S, it came from the factory with a lot of the 996 parts ! Especially the cool rims and tires that only come came with the 996. Absolutely beautiful bike it was just like this one Jay has on his show. They are all moving works of art 🖼️
Interesting looking bike. Lots of technology. I challenge the adjective 'big' to describe the tach/speedometer. Even at 'speed only' or 'tach only' it is kind of small.
The nice thing is if you like the pegs further back, you can get that. My friend's husband just got a Carbon and brought it over to the ER yesterday to let me see it. Standard riding position. Beautiful bike. Loud, but great sound.
Those forward foot pegs are so cool for the first thirty minutes or so and then you discover that it’s really difficult to shift your weight off your coccyx and before you know it, your entire butt and lower spine are aching! Most bikes have their pegs in the middle....there’s a good reason for that!
Owned one for 4 yrs and can say I have never suffered any back pain due to this bike, True it can give you a good kick through the spine when hitting a big hole but since I softened the rear up it's perfectly acceptable now.
XDiavelS welcome to my garage, just bought one woohoo...done 300 miles so far and very impressed. Liked the look of the bike but was worried about the Ducati reputation of reliability. Anyway after watching numerous reviews and consultation with owners of (post Audi) Ducati bikes I decided to get one. Very very pleased.
I know there's a bunch of old motorcycle riders out there that'll give me crap and I do want like a 1940s War II Style Harley Kickstart or a 1970s Harley Kickstart but but this motorcycle is got to be one of the best-looking coolest versatile bikes I've seen in a long time and I've got to get one I've never ridden before I'm 36 and I still want this bike bad enough to go ahead and save the money to get it probably take me to three years to save the money to get it but I think this is the best bike I've seen in a long time
Recently, Rob Faretti said something along the lines of you have two ferarris in the garage because one is always broken. I repeat this same position to Ducati. Always have 2 because one of them is always broken.
Ducati marketing dept: "we need to increase sales in the US: we need to sell a cruiser" Ducati accounting: "we don't have the money to develop a completely different bike." Ducati marketing: "fock it, just move the footpegs forward on the diavel, change the model name slightly by adding the letter X, and call it a cruiser" Ducati accouting: "That works for us." Jay @ 15:05 "I guess technically it's a cruiser cause of the feet forward thing."
Your comment was funny but not true.. :/ They look similar but the similarities are very little. The engine is different, the Diavel makes 160hp and revs higher and the X revs lower, makes 156hp and because of the adjustable valves it makes torque earlier. The suspension components and set up are different, the steering geometry, drivetrain is different as well.
Beautiful Bike,,Jay is like Alot of us "older" Motorcycle Riders,,To Hear & See,Feel the Different Aspects of a bike is really what its about Feeling like "Your" Controlling the Bike,,Its a Beautiful Bike,& Its just Amazing the Technology...
I know a bunch of motovloggers who would love to own this bike! Definitely interesting in design but after seeing Snowcat's drama with the crappy Ducati, I would be skiddish at buying one.
At the opening of the Video Jay points at an old 60's Single OHC which he says was the Monza and could do almost 100mph. We were Ducati Dealers in the 60's and early 70's and the Monza was the least powerful of all Ducati's 250/350cc lineup and even getting up to 80mph might be a stretch. On the other hand the 250cc Diana Mark 3 could do 110mph right out of the crate with the Black Roadracing Megaphone included with the Bike. This was in 1965-66, so that was very impressive for a Single. Essentially a production style Street Roadracer it was one of the fastest 250cc singles of the Day. This was even before they started coming with Desmodromic Valve actuation. They had super high gearing and with the radical Cam would Blubber until around 3500rpm and then come on like gangbusters. Had to change the Countershaft sprocket from 18 tooth to 14 because too many buyers that shouldn't of had the bike in the first place were burning up the clutch trying to get them on the Cam sooner. we had to warranty several of these before I said enough is enough and changed the gearing which limited the top end but made them more impressive to a rider in the low and mid range. Back when BSA and Triumph were making junk like the T20 Cub and C15 Star which were both OHV Singles. Ducati's bevel gear shaft driven OHC almost seemed Furturistic. They make some extremely fast / powerful Bikes which in the past have won both AMA and WSBK RRing titles. Also won a MOTOGP Title w/ Australian rider Casey Stoner. My Friend just attended the MotoGP Race in Austin Texas on Sunday said the GP Ducati was the fastest down the Straights at 217mph. Although it took 3rd overall it even seemed faster than Marc Marquez's Factory Honda. Just needs a top caliber rider like a Kenny Roberts back in the day ...
Lots of comments mentioning the Vmax... why? This Duc has a single-sided swing arm, an exhaust system that is part of the bike's design (rather than slapped on the side as an afterthought), and that ridiculously '80s rear fender hangin' off the back. Sure, a Vmax will get you where you want to go, but the XDiavel S will get you there in style.
Jay you're so right @2:30 - my Monster 821 corners like it's on rails, whatever the speed! So stable I can ride at 2mph and practically wait for a red light to change without dabbing...!
I so appreciate the gracious approach that Jay takes to these. Even if it has a characteristic he doesn't like he is ok with saying "I am not crazy about that but it is still a really nice bike!"
In 1988 I had a one owner 1964 Ducati 250 Monza. They were 4 speeds and 23 hp. Went maybe 80mph. My first bike was a 250 Scrambler. I owned 350 and 450 Scramblers, too. My souped up 350 had maybe 37hp and went about 105 if you had the time.....I had all the cams Ducati made, Mk3, Diana, Scrambler but no F1 cam. I had Veglia and Smiths Chronometric tachs. I bought a bunch of 250 Ducati stuff at an auction in Pueblo Colo. and sold them on ebay. Prices are pretty low on ebay, you can get some good deals. (I've also owned 3 Cagiva 500's MX, a 1984 125 Cagiva, no powervalve....a 1986 Moto Morini 501 Camel. Love that Italian stuff.)
Looks like a jet-ski with wheels. I'm all for innovation and new ideas but the Diavel doesn't speak to me at all. As a cruiser rider I like the idea of greater performance (especially in the handling department), and it probably excels in some areas, but styling is hugely important with these kinds of bikes and I know Ducati can do better and make a beautiful bike.
This is probably one of the most honest reviews of the XDiavel yet... It really solidifies what you want to believe about the XDiavel. Although every motorcycle magazine already said it - they were all put up by Ducati in L.A... kinda hard to talk trash about a bike after you've been hanging out with Ducati legends, eating their food and drinking their booze for 48 hours... I want this thing SO BAD!
Thank you for the great videos Jay. You are awesome! The look of this bike is polarizing for sure. I've always been a sport bike rider. I hated the way it looked until I rode one. Then bought a used gen 2 Diavel a week later. Now I admire it's design every time I see the bike. It demands attention in public as well. It's like driving around an exotic car.
I found the tune up is $1,500 every 15,000 miles and often goes higher, 60,000 miles you can have $6,000 in tune ups, looking on Ebay you find motors with low mileage some only 2000 miles for $1,750 ! reminds me of my 1991 BMW 850 V12 Coupe, the motors are very expensive to fix but not much to buy used, many consider the motor a throw away for that reason.
I think you are the first person on the planet not to be blown away by the Diavel's low-end torque... 130Nm at 6000RPM gives a very special experience, you just have to twist the throttle!
I came back to TN because South Florida had no good roads, all straight-line riding, drove me crazy...love corners and rolling hills. I found a couple on-ramps and off-ramps on the interstate to run a loop on just to get some corners in..
Japan was way ahead on this power cruiser or power bike as the original diavel. The V-max came out to the market 30 years ago, and it still looks good. At the same time, what did Ducati have? The Indiana?...
I have a 2014 nightrod used to think it was fast and fairly nimble hhahaa!! I bought the xdiaval s both bikes in my garage now !! The xdiaval is all engiene with a little seat strapped onto back of engiene it is a violent animal when you open her up !! I thought vrod was like that but now i get on brod seems like old slow slug now !!! But still live the vrod glad to own both makes my day walken into my garage hahahha

Really? It looks tacky as hell to me. It makes the bike look cheap like a matchbox car or something. Same with the designs on the motor.
Nope

There you go Harley Davidson. That's how to make a cruiser that's not only comfy but also fun. A cruiser that will perform when you want it to.
You need to add a Stage 6 on the Harley for an extra $6,000.00 to get it up to 130hp.
stage 1 on my v rod and I'm at 113hp

Every time I see Jay's garage videos I get a little more dead because I will never have as cool as a any car as he has, but then I'm alive again because he has the best garage ever.
"Draggin it on the rear tire"...
Well, that was _special_.
Deathlok67 go easy church lady :-)
Good looking bike and I bet it rips!!
Today's word of the day - absolutely!
+kmd1234 dammit i was gonna post "absolutely" ...beat me to it
+kmd1234 You could also argue for the word "fantastic!"
This bike is a good fit for you Jay!
I know there's a bunch of old motorcycle riders out there that'll give me crap and I do want like a 1940s War II Style Harley Kickstart or a 1970s Harley Kickstart but but this motorcycle is got to be one of the best-looking coolest versatile bikes I've seen in a long time and I've got to get one I've never ridden before I'm 36 and I still want this bike bad enough to go ahead and save the money to get it probably take me to three years to save the money to get it but I think this is the best bike I've seen in a long time
Love the way Jay says fantastic lol
You can tell Jay Leno was holding back on the praise at the end of the video... He knew this bike was killer.
The more I see of these advanced, modern new motorcycles, the more I love the simplicity of the Honda CB 750
Or the 900ss.
Recently, Rob Faretti said something along the lines of you have two ferarris in the garage because one is always broken. I repeat this same position to Ducati. Always have 2 because one of them is always broken.
My Ducati's have all run like Honda's.
I'm a Car guy
But thats one Sexy bike I would love to own
i said the same thing lol
its voted one of the ugliest bikes by bikers, so yeah that makes sense a car guy would like it.
Same here
And you can play with the digital controls while you ride, thus explaining the hole you put in the bread truck crossing the road.
loved ducati's especially the WSB days, met foggy the weekend before his first world title in a motorbike shop in Portsmouth england
No Kardashians on the back seat. xD
+Kragatar
"Dragging it on the rear tire"
lol
Im afraid not lol
New drinking game....watch Jay's video and drink every time he says "fantastic".
The Moto Channel the share something like 5 parts across the bikes. The motor and frame isn't even the same
The Moto Channel theu needed to make it vibrate, rattle and leak oil... lol I jest, doesnt have to leal oil...
Your comment was funny but not true.. :/
They look similar but the similarities are very little. The engine is different, the Diavel makes 160hp and revs higher and the X revs lower, makes 156hp and because of the adjustable valves it makes torque earlier. The suspension components and set up are different, the steering geometry, drivetrain is different as well.
My friend there are a few more additions and changes to the bike other than just the foot pegs. But that was funny.
+NicheRiding not snowcat LOLOL
burgerman that Snowcat tho!
Cool story bro
Wow! that's as beautiful as a Buell!
Amazing that Buell actually had designs like this waaaaay before everyone ripped him off.
Ducati has a demo ride truck rolling around right now full of these things. I rode one yesterday and had a pretty good time.
I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I'm guessing that it pulls nicely
996 is my ducati all time favourite..nothing can top that badboy.
hahaha poor guy. Jay completely cuts him off from talking by starting the bike
I love this bike - great review! Gave me my first wheelie so I'm sold
+XXXDEADHEAD MOTOVLOGS I was just about to tell you he posted this video
+Love 4 Boost I'm always looking for new X vids - can only watch mine so much :). Think Jay was just as sold as I was.
Jay you're so right @2:30 - my Monster 821 corners like it's on rails, whatever the speed! So stable I can ride at 2mph and practically wait for a red light to change without dabbing...!
A Ducati for America. No more stiff neck or sore back!
I so appreciate the gracious approach that Jay takes to these. Even if it has a characteristic he doesn't like he is ok with saying "I am not crazy about that but it is still a really nice bike!"
Jay is gonna get it for himself!
Andrés Padilla I bet Jay got it as a gift for allowing Ducati to be on his show
Carolina Cowboys nah he buys everything...
He gets the hooked up to the very first ones like chassis number firsts ...
He gets favors not vehicles...
He was thinking of it. Who wouldn't
Definitely going to get it!
Will be my next and first bike,🔥🔥🔥
Yea it's a beautiful bike looks like a blast to ride and you get some comfort.
You should test the Triumph Rocket 3
Looks like a jet-ski with wheels. I'm all for innovation and new ideas but the Diavel doesn't speak to me at all. As a cruiser rider I like the idea of greater performance (especially in the handling department), and it probably excels in some areas, but styling is hugely important with these kinds of bikes and I know Ducati can do better and make a beautiful bike.
An ugly bike indeed
Great! A bike that is not into "Fat Acceptance" ;)
+john milton Soon Harleys will have dual wheels!
Rocketninja200 theu do! You wouldn't believe the bikes here in Fl with training wheels, four full sized wheels.
Low end torque means torque at low rpm, 6000 is not low rpm.
Jay Leno roasted the Kardashians WHAT A FUCKING SAVAGE G
Forget this bike give me that OLD RED ONE BEHIND YOU!
This motorcycle videos from Jay are great, but they remind me of my tired old 1988 Honda BROS that needs a bit of work.
Anyone a fan of the Ducati 899? I'm thinking about getting it soon
Da Ca I think I would kill myself on that bike lol. The 899 is still plenty fast and I've heard great things about it
+SimFtw Ducatis are rubbish.. Check out Snowcat's videos
+Bruno Danese not the same model+it's just 1 person, read other reviewers...
+Bruno Danese check out anyone who owns one ..
+Bruno Danese they fucked snowcat over and over ..and over all on video .. hay its repaired , 1/2 mile later ..dead .tow
This is the one bike that I can say does it all for me!
Jay is going to buy one
You could always find me in Leno's garage by following the trail of drool.
jay id love to see if u can find and have a Vector w8 in your show !
all those assists and electronic modes would drive me nuts, urban, touring, track, all you need is go!
lol ya
Really love those rims they chose for this bike. Are those stock? They're seriously gorgeous
+Samuraisahsah yeah those are stock. pretty crazy
I came back to TN because South Florida had no good roads, all straight-line riding, drove me crazy...love corners and rolling hills. I found a couple on-ramps and off-ramps on the interstate to run a loop on just to get some corners in..
This cruiser is a game changer. Now it's time for japan to respond.
yo cycle cruza
Japan was way ahead on this power cruiser or power bike as the original diavel. The V-max came out to the market 30 years ago, and it still looks good. At the same time, what did Ducati have? The Indiana?...
its called the Vmax...since the 80s.
Here’s a long shot question. Does anyone know what gloves Jay is wearing? You can get a decent look just after he pulls over toward the end.
"Non Kardashian passenger" lmao
jay is bossing around with the smart watch! 😂
If you can't decide between a Cruiser and a Sports bike BUY This :D
100 percent true
I have a 2014 nightrod used to think it was fast and fairly nimble hhahaa!! I bought the xdiaval s both bikes in my garage now !! The xdiaval is all engiene with a little seat strapped onto back of engiene it is a violent animal when you open her up !!
