I play sax and the flutes are always like "Can I have a reed?" and I'm like "you don't need one why r u asking?!" and they're like "CAUSEEEEE I wanna see what it's LIKE to have a reed." i will never understand my classmates.
Same! But there is that one person that got it up and hand it back to me kindly, like I was gonna get it but he got it for me instead. Sadly he was a Senior already so last year was my only year that he can do it for me. :P
I'm in beginner's band, and even though I still see this stuff happen, I'm baffled by how idiotic other band members can be. I mean come on! Who leaves their slide or their whole instrument at home? If it's a piccolo I can understand (it's the size of a pencil), but if another saxophonist like me leaves their huge, bulky case because they didn't realize that they forgot it, then I'm calling bullshit. Reed: yes. Saxophone: no.I see the other people do that stuff ALL THE TIME. They act as if they are the best, playing whatever crap they want constantly (even when the teacher is talking), but degrade into brand new students when they are actually told to do something. They play 3 notes before giving up entirely. If you screw up, jump back in. Don't give up because you missed a note.
If anybody asks me that (I play clarinet too) I go ballistic, as I would with anyone asking for a pencil, pen, etc. Then, when I say no and tell them they should bring their own stuff, then they call me mean, rude, (insert synonym here). But, luckily, I rarely get asked to "lend" people reeds, pens, pencils etc anymore
Great video! I'm a first year middle school music educator in Ohio and laughed at just about everyone, especially "My music/instrument has been stolen."
I LOVE THIS. so much. I will now show it to all of my grade 6 and 7 band students. thank you. so much. (we don't have middle school here, but it's the same thing every day)
I showed this to my classes end of last year, and as it played, everyone pointed and named students when their"issue" was presented! TOO FUNNY and SADLY, TOO TRUE! Have shared this with my favorite colleagues, as well. Thank you for your ability to help us find humor in this.
This has gone viral in band teacher circles... and I must say, it's so close to my day-to-day that I can't decide if I should laugh or cry! I love the "my instrument is stolen!!!" I must hear that at least once a month. Version two should include some of the, "the concert is TONIGHT?!?!?!?!" or "I wasn't hitting the mouthpiece!" I can't decide if I should show this on the first day of school this year as a cautionary tale... don't want it to become an inspiration! Thank you! :)
My son's band director shared this with us all. We have watched it several times and love it! Much respect to you for doing the work you do! Band teachers rock! :)
Wow!!! Things haven't changed over 35 years!!! :-) I used to be the one that would leave my instrument at home, but miraculously have my sheet music!!! I laughed at the clarinet playing... Although that was me in elementary school. By Jr. High, I switched from Clarinet to flute, to get rid of the squeaking!!! Then, I switched to T-Sax right out of Jr. High... Biggest mistake I ever didn't make!!! LOL... However, I needed to go back to the flute by Jr. Year, because, I was so out of breath. But, I ended up just getting out of band altogether, as my schedule, or should I say the band director's schedule didn't have a Symphonic band during the time I was at the school, before going to the career school.
You forgot one---when leaving the stage after performing the Holiday Concert: "Mr. Brisk, someone stole my cell phone!!! I had it on my stand behind my music and now it's gone!!!!" (student checks flute stand in front row) "Honey, where do you sit?" (student checks flute stand in second row) "SHUT UP. I'M NOT TALKING TO YOU ANYMORE i want to be back in the first row."
Fantastic! My sister and brother-in-law are both music teachers....I was involved in music through grad school, and now my son plays trumpet in 6th grade. I saw SO much of this in all of our experience....great job! :)
I remember when my middle school band teacher showed us this and he said that all of the clarinet parts described me and two of my clarinet friends... I miss middle school band!!
one time a trumpet player (i play percussion) asked me for valve oil, so i gave him one of my mallets. he said "this isn't valve oil!" and i responded with "yeah, it isn't. could you think of a reason why?" "i dont know?"
Asking for a reed to "borrow" is basically the same thing as asking for a free reed, though, right...? Unless people actually don't mind ingesting other people's saliva, of course.
im in middle school band and one time when we were practicing sounds, instead of getting the sound right the trombones harmonized.this was 6th grade beginners band.yea.
I can't express how true this is. I've heard every freaking one of these at my school because NO ONE IS RESPONSIBLE DANGIT. Sometimes I feel like I'm the most responsible person ever (which is saying something) because half the drums won't have their stuff and some flutes are like 'Oh, well, I left my music at home so I'm just gonna share with you.' At our school we have to share music to conserve space because we have an eety bitty practice area so you can't be called out unless our director does a sheet check. She calls out at least one person from almost all the instruments. I'm too anxious to lose my music o_o
I play the French horn and I'm first chair,I have seen/heard(yes I do it too!) almost all band kids say/do that stuff! I am deffinitly showing my band director, mrs.ireland this!!!!awesome vid!!!
I'm not one to criticize how someone makes a video, but it could've been a lot better. However, the content was on point. So many people say this stuff.
You forgot us percussionists over here- “I FORGOT MY STICK BAG” *drops crash symbols* “uuhhhhhhh” “IF YOU AREN’T A PERCUSSIONIST, DON’T PLAY IN THE PERCUSSION SECTION”
A lot of this isn't true, especially for some really talented middle school bands. The only thing I agree with is the "Where are we?" part. BECAUSE SOME (very untalented, and not interested at all type) KIDS DON'T PAY ATTENTION OR STFU. Remove them, problem solved.
KarmaCantBhop listen I've seen all region ms band kids be this stupid so maybe your band is JESUS but where I am everyone is pretty much like this but our playing is 9/10 and we get trophies and plaques so i mean
I disagree. It all depends what school district your in. My school let us join band in 4th grade. Everything in this video is accurate from what I've seen. What does not knowing much have to do with it? You don't have to know everything to say those words.
Seriously I hear all of those all the time! My band teacher showed us this vid. The only thing that is missing is people fighting over stands and saying "I don't have a stand" or "someone stole my stand" Because I hear that the most.
As a clarinet player my reed is always chipped so i ask my mom "hey mom! can we stop at the music store please?" mom: "why?" me: "my reed is CHIPPED .-."
As a high brass player (I play double horn), in the beginning the most hardest thing and most complaining thing was when trying to play the high notes. So many people would lose their embouchure and just play air, and some people would just blast it out. Aaa, good times :)
I'm a clarinet player! Me nad my friends are always the ones who forget the music at home. Thank you Mr. Harrod and Mr. McCready for making my entire band expeirience 10x better!!!!
Just as true today, apparently as ALL that was back in 1966, '67, '68. Way to go, Mr. Noel (and all music, band and choral teachers, everywhere) ! You are all much loved.
Looking back at this as a sophomore who's played flute and tenor sax since 4th grade, and I can tell you right now, those band kids will never leave ya, you still get those kids in high school who just want a fine arts credit.. Or those who are only in it to see their friends
I used to help instruct high school drum lines. Someone would always bring a football and we would throw it around before rehearsal. There was a guy who played trumpet that also played soccer. So one day we are seeing how well he can kick field goals. The guy made one from the 25 yard line and one of the kids says "I wonder how far that would be on a pro field?"
I think it is appropriate for a teacher to demonstrate student challenges and shortcomings ESPECIALLY when it is something students can relate to and enjoy watching.
You are hilarious. Your facial expressions and postures are spot on! I love this video and I am so glad I can appreciate and relate to every line. Band memories are the best! I bet you are a fantastic director. I hope you will make more videos like this one! Don't forget us flutes lol
There is legitimately like 5 kids in our band at school who do all of these. Luckily, since I'm the only bassoon player in our school, I've never forgotten my reeds at home XD
I'm a euphonium player in 6th grade, and for some reason I always lose track on some songs when at band, and I just sit there until we hit a long tone and I can get back in
YES!!!! No exaggeration! My dad is my band director and gets this all the time!! He's going to show the band this once school starts. My family sat around and watched this video over and over. You look like a great band teacher :)
all of this is legit so true..like everyone in my band class has said this and i love the part when he played and then just sat there because he didnt know and just looked around...thats exactly what i do and when we whisper to the person next to us "where are we?" i just died watching this
XD Middle school days.. Speaking of which, this reminded of how this one kid left his trumpet right near the wheels of the bus (We were on a band trip) and the bus backed up...RIGHT ON HIS TRUMPET. My teacher still has it, it's squished flat.
This is so accurate xD, a lot of people in my band class forget their music, lost their music, ask for reeds (woodwinds), share music, forget their instrument at home, and worse, play a lot of wrong notes lel.
I play saxophone and the only thing I would leave t my house is my music and that would happen maybe 2.3% of the time. Well that’s what I have my saxophone buddy for 😂
There was a time a few weeks before we went to MPA where our only bass clarinet player consistently forgot his mouthpiece, which sucked because he had a solo in one of our songs. So at the end of the year when my band director showed this to the class, everyone looked at the bass clarinet player and shouted his name, because he used to say that every day before MPA. (Music Performance Assessment in case you didn't know)
I'm play flute and someone asked me if I had a reed. I was like:
"DOES IT LOOK LIKE I WOULD HAVE A REED"
The same thing has happened to me 😂
I play sax and the flutes are always like "Can I have a reed?" and I'm like "you don't need one why r u asking?!" and they're like "CAUSEEEEE I wanna see what it's LIKE to have a reed."
i will never understand my classmates.
same but I play trombone face palm
i am expecting that to happen at one point😂
+That One Guy ahaha that happened to me but sadly i play tuba so where i would have a reed idk
*JUST BECAUSE YOUR BAND DOESN'T DO IT, DOESN'T MEAN IT ISN'T TRUE!*
Thank you for your time.
NO! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!
Shut up Jellal you made Erza cry
As a middle school music student myself, I can confirm most of these.
Same lol
Ditto
Everyone here says "Most of this isnt true" but for me....I'm in middle school....I'm a clarinet player......And i do all of these.....
Same, im in high school now and i did it then and still do some of it now
"-whispers- where are we???"
Phyrolis agreed we had a test I cut my finger open and he still made me play
Twilly Lilly lol, me too, but mostly just *whispers* "where are we" cause the music is pretty hard😂
im in middle school, im a clarinet player, and i do i think only one or two of the things mentioned in this video
Phyrolis ikr same
What I heard a lot of was:
"I accidentally bit through my reed!"
HOW??!!
faunawhisperer ikr
It’s actually not hard o do if you twist it sideways and bite it the whole thing falls apart
@@aceix6540 How does one get to the point where the reed is sideways and they are biting through it?
@@dec5847 don’t know about others, but as a clarinet putting it in your mouth before playing you can easily break ir
@@IndependentOreo Yeah, I play clarinet. I've definitely broken my reed a few times by being reckless, but I've never bitten it sideways before.
How does one loose a trombone slide like that?
+ThatWolfyGamer Wish I knew... ;)
+MrNoelJMIS I play tuba and baritone saxophone and the second tuba player next to me said he left it at home, even though it was right there.
idk
Idk lose* btw
Right!
My band teacher showed us this video and so for the rest of the year he said "IF YOU WANT TO DO THAT JOIN MR.NOELS BAND"
Troll Insky my band teacher joined this
Troll Insky ooh please join us daddy
oh no I am in his orch
Kevin Ma I'm in his band
oh hi then
I'm in 8th grade and geez why is this so true omg
Same!
right
So true I'm a beginner trombone player in 8th grade and I do the "shit wrong note" face all the time 😂
7th going on eighth and 90% if this true I play flute and sometimes I swear the 7-8 band has the brain of a 1 grader
One time a trumpet came up to me and asked for valve oil. My response: I AM A CLARINET DOES IT LOOK LIKE I HAVE VALVE OIL?!?
I didn't yell
lol
Chris J. same
THEODD1SOUT I LOVE JAMES U HAVE GOOD TASTE CAN WE BE FRENS XD
NVPANDAGIRL I'm not James. My PFP was on one of his videos. I screencapped it because I thought that it was funny
Same except I would've yelled
I'm always the 'where are we?' or 'where are we starting from?' 'Oh right that's a flat oops'
"wait shit fuck I forgot that we don't have flats in this son- WAIT WHAT WHEN DID THE FLATS CHANGE"
So flipping true
By chance do play trombone
This is exactly what it was like in my middle school! Exactly! Good times.
You're welcome! :)
Oboes: Forget a reed and prepare to not play.
Genericide exactly
Same
too true
Yeah
yes
DO YOU HAVE A REED I CAN BORROW? lol i remember hearing that a bunch. I'm a tuba so I don't have to worry about that stuff though.
TRDOAndyRocks same exept i play flute
I hear the I don't know where we are or the I don't have/you didn't give this one a lot in band
Same, but they always get mad when I say no because reeds are super expensive and my mom doesn't like me just giving them away
+TRDOAndyRocks I play in the pit and a seventh grader asked me for a reed and I was like, um no but I have some sticks XD
+TRDOAndyRocks tuba all the way bro! :)
The only thing I do is accidentally knock over music because I'm clumsy af. 😂
Same
Same! But there is that one person that got it up and hand it back to me kindly, like I was gonna get it but he got it for me instead. Sadly he was a Senior already so last year was my only year that he can do it for me. :P
You're not the only one 😆😂
I can confirm all of this is true
the only thing you forgot was "I forgot to bring my instrument home, i couldn't practice.. "
(insert sneaky smile here)
XSadieX That's me lol
I'm in beginner's band, and even though I still see this stuff happen, I'm baffled by how idiotic other band members can be. I mean come on! Who leaves their slide or their whole instrument at home? It's a joke..
I know, but there are kids that seriously forget their case. A person playing the alto saxophone forgot his case at home a while back.
HOW!?!
+Raptor22 we may never know
XD
True.
+Raptor22 This comment is adorable XD
*whispers* "Where are we?"
That is so true.
😂😂😂 ikr I play alto sax and this girl next to me is constantly asking me that😂
It's SO TRUE!! I'm a clarinetist and I hear the " dose anyone have a reed I can use?" ALL the time
lol I also play clarinet :D
If anybody asks me that (I play clarinet too) I go ballistic, as I would with anyone asking for a pencil, pen, etc.

That is so true XD.
This is seriously amazing. Defiantly showing this to the Band Directors at my school.
Thank you! :)
***** im doing the same! Haha. I'm guilty of saying i dont have my sticks XD
My band teacher showed us this and the whole band laughed SO hard!!! LOVE IT!
Same XD
Hahaha!! My band teacher, Mr. McCoy showed us this while the beginners were in the room! The looks on their faces!!!
This is why high school band is a lot better
Cause everyone is serous
Maximiliano Luera just depends on the school
Maximiliano Luera cause my junior high band is actually at more of a high school level
Maximiliano Luera of course high school band is better dumbass there more experienced
Mikhi Ranger *they're
The Who took my sticks one connected with me on a personal level. Hate it when they think it’s funny to hide my sticks right before I have a solo

Thank you for your ability to help us find humor in this.
"Oh yeah I practice like all the time. I only messed up because my reed chipped."
This has gone viral in band teacher circles... and I must say, it's so close to my day-to-day that I can't decide if I should laugh or cry! I love the "my instrument is stolen!!!" lol this STILL happens in my senior band!!
Senior band?
Ghosts289 yea... And?
I am a middle school band teacher...You have just captured my life for the last 29 years!! Love, Love this video!!!
The whole video: Reed, I need a reed, I left my reed, help, my reed broke, my reed chipped
Me: *Laughs in mouthpiece*
Wow!!! Things haven't changed over 35 years!!! :-) I used to be the one that would leave my instrument at home, but miraculously have my sheet music!!! I laughed at the clarinet playing... (student checks flute stand in front row) "Honey, where do you sit?" (student checks flute stand in second row) "SHUT UP. I'M NOT TALKING TO YOU ANYMORE i want to be back in the first row."
+Daniel Brisk Lol
"somebody stole my instrument!!" same. I play the horn and there's only 3-4 horns available at my school
XD Highschool band is same.
So is elementary school band music.
Jessica Johrendt They have elementary band? Not just a recorder and hot-cross buns?
Rueben Brown 6th grade
Takkuri Himare oh my ele school was like that till they bild a real middle school
Where I live there is no middle school... and the recorder is one the most annoying 'things' ever made.
Fantastic! My sister and brother-in-law are both music teachers....I was involved in music through grad school, and now my son plays trumpet in 6th grade. I saw SO much of this in all of our experience....great job! :)
Completely accurate except for one thing: The 8th graders just leave! XD
At my school only the 6th graders bother to say bey and they only say it the first half of the year
I remember when my middle school band teacher showed us this and he said that all of the clarinet parts described me and two of my clarinet friends... I miss middle school band!!
one time a trumpet player (i play percussion) asked me for valve oil, so i gave him one of my mallets. he said "this isn't valve oil!" and i responded with "yeah, it isn't. could you think of a reason why?"
"i dont know?"
Accurate
If my Clarinet gets stolen, I shouldn't be surprised because I've used a locker with no lock for months now 😅
Love this video I'm a clarinet myself and it's so true!!!!
as someone who came from a really good middle school that had an excellent middle school band I can say that yeah a lot of this is true
Kids in my band never say this, our director's too scary
Glad it made you laugh! And yes, it usually is in the trunk when it's a "stolen" instrument...or on the bus... :)
literally me in middle school omg
My band director showed us this video and all of us died!!! 😂😂😂
The part when you play the wrong and look at the instrument is soooooo me!
Asking for a reed to "borrow" is basically the same thing as asking for a free reed, though, right...?
Unless people actually don't mind ingesting other people's saliva, of course.
If the person isn't sick or a nasty person I would take it
I was in band in middle school playing clarinet and I can totally confirm all of this.
Ahhh middle school..
I laughed so hard lmao it's so trueeeee
im in middle school band and one time when we were practicing sounds, instead of getting the sound right the trombones harmonized.this was 6th grade beginners band.yea.
You forgot, "My mouth piece is stuck..." xD
VintageGamer Pvt. Lee- Brown
Haha 2:00 was definitely me
My band teacher showed us this in class and looked at specific sections and/or people at different parts

So true but i play flute
XHopeBunnyX sameeee (it's still like this at times in high school)
Thank you! I'm so glad this can be enjoyed by people from so many backgrounds! :)
I'm not one to criticize how someone makes a video, but it could've been a lot better.
However, the content was on point. So many people say this stuff.
***** That's why I teach band and not video production. ;)
***** Or acting.
***** So then, you ARE one to criticize. No worries- I can't please everyone! :)
I have already seen some kids go on to do great things! Thanks for the encouragement!
Your missing one thing, " Oh My God, There is a leak on the marimba!"
...that's cuz we don't have a marimba... :P #california
I don't know how i would live without my marimba, it's my baby.
Tsuki Yuuki We also don't have a marimba but my band director really wants one. But we do fundraisers every year but never reach our goal for one. :(
ROTFL
You forgot us percussionists over here-
“I FORGOT MY STICK BAG”
*drops crash symbols* “uuhhhhhhh”
“IF YOU AREN’T A PERCUSSIONIST, DON’T PLAY IN THE PERCUSSION SECTION”
I play violin lol don't now why I'm here
haha i play cello
Lol, this is practically my 7th and 8th grade years in band...good times. Now for high school times!
A lot of this isn't true, especially for some really talented middle school bands. The only thing I agree with is the "Where are we?" part. BECAUSE SOME (very untalented, and not interested at all type) KIDS DON'T PAY ATTENTION OR STFU. Remove them, problem solved.

Social Studies teacher here, long story...LOVE middle school. You had me crying. LOVE that you posted this!! Don't forget your Xanax!!!
This really isnt funny. the middle school band is when they first begin. they dont know much.
it's not meant to be mean...just meant for those who have experienced this. It's funny because it's true! ;)
Actually I started before middle school...but anyway, I can relate back to so much of this, it's more for laughs rather than making fun.
I totally agree this is what I was thinking the whole video
I disagree. It all depends what school district your in. My school let us join band in 4th grade. Everything in this video is accurate from what I've seen. What does not knowing much have to do with it? You don't have to know everything to say those words.
Really that's funny cuz I'm in beginning band and all of my band mates do this so I wouldn't be talkin k 😉👍👌
My band teacher showed us this video during rehearsal.. We all broke out in laughter! I play clarinett❤
Seriously I hear all of those all the time! My band teacher showed us this vid. The only thing that is missing is people fighting over stands and saying
"I don't have a stand" or "someone stole my stand" Because I hear that the most.

Yeah, I can play lower than the French horn teacher but I can't play high notes
I'm a clarinet player! Me nad my friends are always the ones who forget the music at home. Thank you Mr. Harrod and Mr. McCready for making my entire band expeirience 10x better!!!!
Just as true today, apparently as ALL that was back in 1966, '67, '68. Way to go, Mr. Noel (and all music, band and choral teachers, everywhere) ! You are all much loved.
Thanks Kaylee! I like a lot of instruments, but my favorites to play are Bass (my main instrument), viola, trumpet, trombone and bass clarinet.

There is legitimately like 5 kids in our band at school who do all of these. Luckily, since I'm the only bassoon player in our school, I've never forgotten my reeds at home XD
Thats so true especially in middle this stuff happens all the time everyday at least one of these happen
Oh heavens - I'm about a year out from my student teaching, and I've got a feeling this will be most of my days from there on out!
I teach elementary band-and I have heard ALL of these excuses. Totally nailed it Mr. Noel.
I've taught middle school band for 22 years. You nailed it! Thanks for the laughs....
you don't know how true this is, and the worst part is, it carries on to high school. The immaturity continues.
today in band class, only time I've done this, i knocked over a bell kit and the case for a different one...
I'm a euphonium player in 6th grade, and for some reason I always lose track on some songs when at band, and I just sit there until we hit a long tone and I can get back in
OMG THIS IS SO TRUE I'm a middle school band student myself and trust me our 6th graders do this stuff but rarely the 7th and 8th graders :D
I actually did forget my trumpet mouthpiece once in my high school band😅
I teach middle school English, but played viola in middle and high school, and this was all hilariously familiar. I love the farewells of each grade!
YES!!!! No exaggeration! My dad is my band director and gets this all the time!! He's going to show the band this once school starts. My family sat around and watched this video over and over. You look like a great band teacher :)
all of this is legit so true..like everyone in my band class has said this and i love the part when he played and then just sat there because he didnt know and just looked around...thats exactly what i do and when we whisper to the person next to us "where are we?" i just died watching this
“I left my instrument at home” lmao so true
XD Middle school days..
Speaking of which, this reminded of how this one kid left his trumpet right near the wheels of the bus (We were on a band trip) and the bus backed up...RIGHT ON HIS TRUMPET. My teacher still has it, it's squished flat.
This is so accurate xD, a lot of people in my band class forget their music, lost their music, ask for reeds (woodwinds), share music, forget their instrument at home, and worse, play a lot of wrong notes lel.
My band director showed to us and omg so accurate except I'm in 8th grade and I think I leave more flamboyantly than the 6th graders were shown😂
I play saxophone and the only thing I would leave t my house is my music and that would happen maybe 2.3% of the time.
