In the aftermath of nuclear war, he sat engulfed in flames amid a world reduced to ash. Surrounding him were the remnants of a civilization lost to atomic fire, each charred silhouette and fallen structure a stark reminder of human folly. The air, heavy with the scent of radioactive decay, echoed the silent cries of a planet scarred by conflict. As flames enveloped him, they seemed less like the harbingers of death and more like the final, defiant breath of a world unwilling to be forgotten. Here, in the heart of devastation, the fire became his testament and shield-burning brightly as both a beacon of the destruction wrought and the indomitable spirit that survives, a lone figure standing resilient in the face of oblivion, forever marked by the fire of war yet unbroken.

Sad to say but your titles are very relevant for the times we are living, I thought the threat of nuclear annihilation was gone when the wall came down in 89. It's worse now than it was back then. Dunno how or why this was recommended to me, but I'm not complaining. There's a sort of tranquil feeling of just.. acceptance as the world goes up in flames around us. Like you know everything went to shit and now you're just surviving day by day until the end comes. It's beautiful in its own tragic way.

Some great vibes for The Anomaly
Got inspired, and decided to write something inspired by this music. It's a slice of my sci-fi world, bellator, hope ya enjoy it!:
The Planet of Vera was supposed to be different.
Modeled after Unity, it was meant to be the crown jewel of the 3rd Sphere Colonies. A place where all peoples of all walks of life would live. Where wealth inequality would be slashed with cheap, sustainable living. These visions where the product of Ricktor Hall, a Horizon Exec and head of Colonial Development. Hall rested his career on Vera, intending for it to be his last great work before bowing out of the company for good.
The problems with Vera begun early on, the planet would require extensive terra forming. Vera was an arid world, with only 30% of it's surface covered with water. These small oceans were more akin to gigantic bogs and caused large amounts of nitrogen to be released into the air, far more than was needed, creating greenhouse effects across the world. The average tempature of which was close to 25 Degree Centigrade, with parts of the world reaching as high as 60 in some cases.
Horizon got to work fixing this, constructing atmospheric towers to help bleed off the excess nitrogen and stabilize the atmosphere. They also partnered with Lazarus Biotechnica to begin seeding the planet with fans that would be easy for settlers to utilize for crops and livestock. After close to a decade, temperatures began to decrease, dropping to a far more managable 20 degrees C. New lakes and additional water sources where added in the form of mined astroid ice, adding 60% more water to the surface.
Horizon calculated that the world would be fit for colonization within twenty years, with plans for the first Arcologies already being laid out, but that's when they ran into their first problem -money. For years, Horizon had been playing a dangerous game with investors, promising massive projects in exchange for massive investments. Soon, promises were being exchanged for money, with some new projects being started to help pay for other projects that hadn't been completed yet. This put Horizon, and more over Ricktor Hall, into a tough spot.
Vera was beginning to turn into a money hole, and Ricktor's insistence on it being entirely managed by the corp, with no Coalition intervention, led to an inevitable confrontation. Mar Hayes, CFO for Horizon, and Uri Pin begin to lead a movement to oust Ricktor from the company. This ousting was supported by unnamed shareholders, who were beginning to worry over Vera's profitability. They wanted the Coalition to open the planet for Colonization now before the archologies were completed. This would mean building costs would be shifted from the company to the colonists. However, Ricktor pushed back, still seeing the archologies as crucial, as they would allow for much more sustainable living and would leave small footprints, allowing for the growth of the colonies without the worry of the border wars seen in the 2nd Sphere.
This feud ended suddenly when Ricktor's ship, the Humble Planter, suffered from a sudden and unexplainable Liminal Drive failure. All hands were recorded as dying, along with Ricktor himself. His death only briefly halted work on Vera; as soon as the funeral had been finished, Horizon finished a deal with the Coalition Colonial Board to begin colonization of Vera. Construction on the archologies would continue, but only on a First Come, First Serve basis. Unlike Hall, who wanted to have them function as affordable housing, the archologies were soon turned into luxury villas, where the extremely wealthy would be able to live and help fund the rest of the project.
The board soon carved up the planet, with a territory in the North Eastern Hemisphere designated for colonization for a population of Novians. The Novians, led by Patriarch Vone, applauded the move and soon began constructing settlements surrounding the artificial inland sea, renamed Lok Kasre, the settlement itself being named Kasre Ka. This attracted other Novians, who left the unstable Second Sphere and went to Vera to find refuge. Along with them, some agents of the terrorist organization, the Sons of Nova Terra, arrived.
Later Star Watch reports would indicate that this might've been done out of a want to establish new cells or, more likely, as an attempt to flee Coalition Peacekeepers, which had designated them a terrorist organization. Regardless, word spread that the Sons of Nova Terra were hiding in Kasre Ka, and that rumor spread quickly across Vera. The colony did not have a strong military presence and depended mostly on PMCs, particularly Werewolf, which offered advanced Cybernetically augmented soldiers to help protect the archologies.
This was supplemented by the Dawn Company, a PMC that was owned and operated by Horizon itself. The commander of the Dawn Company forces on Vera, Jack Naip, was a CMC veteran and was chosen to command Verain Defense Forces purely because of his experiences during the War of Fallen Stars, making him an expert on hunting terrorists and pirates alike. Naip, a Konii, did have some anti-Novian sentiments, and a later Star Watch report would indicate that he didn't hide his racism. However, Naip was less concerned about Kasre Ka and far more worried about maintaining the security of the archologies. This meant that, initially, no one was watching the Coalition's established colonies, which made the inevitable clash unsurprising.
Pt 2
A band of Bor'Kohn led by Kal Khali, arrived in system of Vera, looking for Sons of Nova Terra, in particular, Pavlo Dansk who had earlier fought Khali in skirmishes in the Second Sphere. Khali's Toak Warriors landed on the outer settlements outside of Kasre Ka, purposefully hiding in a Grey Zone so that local Coalition forces would be hesitant to pursue them. They inner mixed themselves with other small Grey Settlements, using them as bases to raid into Kasre Ka.
The local Sons of Nova Terra would materialize, and soon, a small border war was breaking out. Coalition forces, spread thin throughout the system, deferred to Dawn Company to deal with the insurgents. Naip then decided on a 'Both Sides' style, attacking Bor'Kohn and Nova Terran forces if encountered in the Grey Zone. Naip hoped this would silence both sides and even force the Bor'Kohn to leave. The Toak wasn't interested in leaving and had a steady stream of new recruits galvanized by far-right sentiments in their home systems. Sons of Nova Terra were also infuriated by the affair and began to attack Horizon Conveys and installations.
Meanwhile, Horizon was still running into financial troubles. Several of their Prospect Worlds were becoming money pits, and worse yet, fewer and fewer projects were being approved as the Colonial Board began to crack down on 'Fake Colonies' scams, where unfinished settlements were being sold to unsuspecting colonists. Horizon dodged several lawsuits, but their legal fees weighed on an already overstrained giant. As such, when Naip came and asked for reinforcements, the Home Office refused and slashed defense spending. The Werewolf Company had its contract terminated. Now Naip was expected to deal with the border war and run security for the 6 complete archologies and the 10 yet-to-be-completed ones.
Desperate, Naip decided on a different approach. Rather than cracking down on both sides, He began to ally himself with Bor'Kohn paramilitaries in the hunt for Sons of Nova Terra. This move is often cited as the beginning of the end and would be the time that the Coalition's passiveness in the area led to disaster. Naip, despate his hate, did insist on minimizing civilian deaths, although Khali refused to listen, opting for a scorched earth policy.
Now that they were under attack by the corp, Kaser Ka turned to the stars for help, pooling whatever wealth they could to find a PMC or a Pirate Clan that might help them. They regarded the Sons of Nova Terra as extremists and ultimately wanted them gone but had no real army of their own. They eventually found help in the Rusty Claw Pirate Clan. Scavengers by trade they were also proficient in war, having a substantial amount of salvaged mechs and war rigs. The Rusty Claw took payment in the form of a tithe which would be paid to them yearly and any loot they took from the battlefield.
From there, things only escalated, with PMCs and Pirate Clans being brought in as the war on Vera continued to grow. Many archologies began seeking their own PMC protection, pooling their wealth to ensure their security. This also led to archologies becoming more and more isolated from one another. They treat each other less as neighbors and more like foreign nations. Paranoia began to rise as the war around Lok Kasre spilled further. Eventually, the Coalition began the process of setting up an intervention, but there came an obstacle, Horizon.
The company still insisted on handling all security matters, downplaying the planet's instability as nothing more than a skirmish between extremist groups, worrying that any intervention would lead to investor panic. Still, this wouldn't be the death blow for the mega corp, rather, it would come in the form of Mar Hayes yet again. The CFO of Horizon begun to realize where the company was going, and begun a scheme to exit the company with his assests preserved. This scheme spider webbed across the company as more and more execs begun to see the writing on the wall.
The killing blow came when the loan for Horizon's Mayden Station defaulted, leading the Coalition Galatic Bank to issue a foreclosure on it. Horizon attempted to settle it, requesting an extension, which was denied. Horizon was then forced to reveal the level of debt it had accumulated, estimated to be north of 800 trillion. Horizon had accumulated more debt than the entire world of Vera had in circulation 1000 times over.
Overnight, Horizon collapsed, billions lost jobs, and trillions of dollars in assets suddenly vanished. The Unity Stock Exchange became a frantic battleground as brokers realized what had happened. As the main driving force for colonial development, Horizon sunk numerous other companies that had been tied to it, leading to them going bankrupt and a cascading effect across the whole market. Suicides spiked by 5 percent across the Coalition, and whole fleets of ships were captured as they were tied into the unimaginable debt Horizon had accumulated.
On Vera, it was even worse. Attempts to turn the Liminal Beacon off to stop the spread of the news came too late. Residences of the achologies woke up to find out they were penniless and with angry mercenaries at their door, demanding to know where their paychecks were. Riots broke out as the working staff of the archologies were without pay or a way off the planet. Mercenary Companies took over whole cities, their captains making themselves kings. The incomplete archologies were seized by the workers, only for them to be massacred by roving Pirates seeking to make them their homes.
At this point, the Coalition deployed troops to keep the peace-or what was left of it. The task fell to Marshal Brian Cadwell, another War of Fallen stars veteran. Alongside him the 6th Bellator Corps, the Star Wardens, where also deployed to stem the tide of violence. Marshal Cadwell determined that the best course of action would be to pacify the pirates and mercenary companies, as well as restore peace in Kaser. The remaining archologies where put in the hands of their residence as they fell into a grey area of legality.
Cadwell waged a ruthless campaign, utilizing the 6th Corps to ruin the numerous Mer Companies operating in the wilds and the Pirate Clans, which roosted in the incomplete archologies. The campaign would be a twenty year affair before Cadwell quit the planet. A Coalition Garrison remains to defend Kaser Loc, but the planet of Vera is now a wild, wartorn wasteland. To this day, the planet is the home of numerous pirate clans, the archologies now being safe havens for PMCs looking to ply their trade to the highest bidder.
Whispers to remain about Rictar Hall, and what happened to him and his ship. The Arcology he visited, Veridian, still stands mostly intact, and while its Mercenary King, Lawden Mecharm, claims full control of the tower, he has yet to get down below. Underneath the arcology is a void, another floor. It's rumored that this is where Ricktor went while on his stay. Perhaps it was his personal quarters, his gambling hall, or maybe a tremendous value. Many have tried, but few ever come back up to tell what's down in Ricktor's Vault.
