    This video was released almost exactly only two months after SC II WoL was released, but it's crazy how it's still so relevant, with the expansion released, and all the new strategies revised.

    Microing an SCV on Lost Temple while I do my build...
    Such simple words, MOST REVOLUTIONARY EVER.
    I haven't been on SC2 in a week because I was so sick of trying to keep my SCV alive and then my macro falling behind horribly (all I can manage is building SCVs and units from my barracks. I end up falling behind on MULEs, gas, tech, etc) and then even losing my SCV before I want to.

  • @evildivision

    In game, you can click and drag to make a selection box. When he says box and attack, he means to select all the attacking units in one group and attack.

  • @X3lfl3X
    @X3lfl3X 12 лет назад

    The 1st build problem was lack of scouting as the probe missed observation of the intial look for the Main, you can sometimes pick to attack if you've not been scouted early, but by the same token the person doing the scouting not seeying the intial base will trow off the missscout and go for tech.. as no reaction could be known till too late.

    Funny thing... I have a build where you can do Helilons and follow that up immediately with Cloaked Banshees. :] Got the Hellion half from Jinro vs BoxeR. Just figured the build could perfectly transition into a cloaked Banshee setup.
    And for the last replay, I don't know why he didn't use his Force Fields... It's like the best spell in the game! He sat there, not wanting to use it or not knowing how to... It's so valuable against early pressure, allowing me to go for mid-game tech safely.

    I like your take on the word "newbie", I would fit what most ppl describe that level of play. However, rather than using the term "lower" level player, I think using the term "casual" level of play is most appropriate and really meaning. Most hardcore gamers think I suck at this game as if I had no inability to get better, but after being more fluent with simple mechanics you teach here, anyone can literally be a good gamer.

    Also, as for walling off, against Protoss, anyone who uses Void Rays not to harass, but with an army, walling off is VERY bad. They get a nice target to charge up on, and you can't stop it since there is plenty of area for the Void Rays to safely attack from. Also against Zerg, it's bad against Mutalisk harass, unless you split up your anti air units. Otherwise, the wall in is very nice... But if you're a good player, you can probably prevent both the Void Ray and Mutalisk from coming out.

    @sibenikkk Not sure what you're talking about, we have players continuing to climb in points in SC2. However, rated chess matches occur far less frequently than SC2 rated matches, so meeting the threshold where your rating is too high and you get +1 for a win and -30 for a loss takes a lot longer ;)

    Use macro hatches and then to balance your money just change what units your building. For example if your going muta ling build mutas when you have gas build ling when you have mins. then when the money gets high throw down another macro hatch. also make sure you hit all of you injects

    Day9, you have taught me a lot.

  • @Anolaana
    @Anolaana 6 лет назад +1

    Y'know, coming back to this with that much more experience... I think the actual answer for bronze leaguers is to NOT TECH. Which is really counter intuitive, but I actually believe this video is more aimed at like silver-gold people who have a solid understanding of the game - at least from experience.
    For a bronze leaguer, it's hard to realise that sometimes rushing up the tech tree costs resources you could use for the army. They don't have the control or simcity ability to wall off and fend off a cheese any other way, so sometimes, the best idea to fight off a cheese is to "cheese back" almost as hard. You don't get gas, because that costs mining time (more important back in HOTS etc, but could be worth trying - this is done in "the staircase" 5-step training program).
    What's a factory? Who cares, we just need /more stuff, more marines, more lings/ to hold the push. Those 75+ minerals could be TWO marines, man! And then,when you've defeated his push, then you have a more decent economy, then you CAN get gas and a factory and all those fancy gadgets without worrying about it.
    This is especially important when facing the AI or on a small map, because unlike on ladder where you could/can afford to go for a fast expand, the AI always rushes you first. 400 Minerals? That's EIGHT marines, man! EIGHT of them! You could buy a second barracks, dual rax it, and put out twice the marines! So yeah, while day9's great and entertaining, I think there's some merit to thinking about your plan and what you aim to get out of this episode. Thanks for reading this essay!

    • @Anolaana
      @Anolaana 6 лет назад

      (PS: he kinda brings this up indirectly at 8 minutes, but I actually think it's WAY more important because people emphasise build orders way too much. You gotta get them out of the mindset of having "a build order to learn" or at least pick one that's simple and straightforward and beats cheese, so they don't get rushed and then frustrated. Way too many people emphasise eco builds as good for newbs -- whereas eco builds are better for again, those silver-gold people who have the experience and need to refine their skill. A bronze leaguer just needs to get stuff chucked out at the enemy! Even if it's just 20 marines at 5 minutes or whatever! Anyway, rant over. I hope.

    Concerning the game with grits and gas timing. Throwing down gas and timing it to finish at the time the pool is finished or a little earlier, in my opinion isn't necessarily a poor choice. Of course that's if your pushing for speedling expand, which is a decent opening on a map like this. Speedling's couldn't have hurt in prep for that first push. What do you think Day 9?

    @anthonywhistler you need to continue winning against higher league players. There's this thing called MMR which is like a hidden stat saying how good you are. If you start winning against high league players, your MMR will rise upwards. It will continue to rise until you start losing and your W/L record is settled at about 50% again. Then, they will make the decision to promote you.

    @smithcm14 It really grinds my gears when somebody associates casual with newbie or bad player. A casual player is a player that does not have the time to play the game as much as he would want/as much as most other people do. A casual player does not have to be a bad player, he may well be an ex hardcore player who does not have time to play the game as he used to. TL;DR : Casual != Newbie/baddie
