I hesitated on the 50 1.2 despite waiting for it , but now I am all in on the Z 1.2s for people especially events or outdoor. Not in a studio, I think I need it as well as, not instead of, because you need something easier to carry. The 26mm may well replace the 28mm for my use.
I love my 50 f/1.2 so much that may very well end up getting the 85 to match it even though my 85mm f/1.8 really should be perfectly good enough for my use. The character and the extra light do tempt an awful lot.
I’ve just preordered the 85 1.2 today. I have the 85 1.8, and the extra level of flexibility the 1.2 gives is just that little bit more - that little bit more ability to turn down the shutter speed, that little bit more separation, that little bit more light. I honestly think none of this is necessary though, we are well into the land of luxury with lenses, but I’m here for it. In terms of what I really can’t wait for: a 24 1.4 would be amazing.
I own the 28mm f2.8 and love it. Don't mind the plastic mount at all. This lens is so small and light that it doesn't matter. I've seen Ricci's video on the 26mm and although the IQ is a bit better, I don't feel the price difference is worth it. I'll probably pickup the 40mm instead.
Lens like this makes more sense for lots of low light photography it’s the only reason I would put up with the bulk….other than that f1.8 or f2 does the job very nice already. It’s really more desire than actual real life usage. Nothing wrong if you just crave for a nice lens.
Like Becky, I am all about the 26mm. Preordered mine here in Canada. As I get older, I prefer lighter gear. I am looking at it as a travel compliment to the 24-120mm f4Z. Perfect for a small carry on bag. I really like the f1.8 Z primes…I would want 135mm to finish my collection. The only f1.2 that I might consider is the 35mm f1.2. But not seeing it, right now.
I'm not one who does a lot of portraits so I'm keeping my F mount AFS 85mm f1.4G lens but with the preproduction f1.2 Z lens being soft at 1.2 versus the f1.8 wide open I would hold off until the production model comes out and see if that changes. Z mount S lenses tend to be sharp wide open. To me is it really worth 2K more than the Z mount f1.8 version. - Jeff
controversial opinion: unless you really need the absolute most light any prime at 1.8 or 2 is more than enough for almost anything. 1.2 and 1.4 are from the world of fixed film ISO and noisy early digital sensors. with all the stuff we've got now in ISO and sensor tech I'll go right to 2.8 and be happy with having both eyes in focus. and f4 is fantastic for portraits which allows for the 24-120 to have it's day. sidebar: the 26mm is PERFECT as a drop in any bag and walk around lens. it's also great for whatever crops are on the horizon and the z fc / 50 right now. just a bit wider than 28 helps as a walk around.
Nicci recently compared the 85/1.2 S to the 85/1.8 S, and in that comparison the 1.8 did so well that I'm hesitant at first. After this comparison, I can't quite understand the hype around the new 85 mm.
I already have the 28mm but the new 26mm pancake is exactly what I need to make it possible to stuff my Z50 or Zfc into pretty much all of my bags whenever I leave the house without having to make any special allowances for space. However I’m not willing to pay full price for it. As for a rangefinder body I’d love one as I currently own a pair of used Sony A6xxx series APS-C bodies. I love the form factor but the Sony lenses I own are average at best.
I believe that they would have been better to come out with a 23mm f/2 lens, which would make it a good street photography lens (35mm FF equivalent) with the cropped sensor cameras.
I am interested in the 85mm for studio portraiture but also want to see if they come out with a 105, 135 f/1.8, not sure what I would pick. Currently using 50mm f/1.2 and f type 105mm /f2.8 macro on the ftz.
I *want* the 85 f/1.2... just like I want the 50 f/1.2. But I cannot think of a good reason to get either. I'm simply an enthusiast photographer, so there's no financial bonus to getting one. That said, if I can ever convince myself that there is a whiff of a legitimate need for either, I'll pounce. 🙂
Nikon have lost it (imho) back in the dlsr days (remember them?) Nikon was king - best dlsr in the D5/6 and D850 and D500 - lovely professional lenses like the 58 F1.4G that cost a lot (£1600 new) but that had character and produced gorgeous photos. Since mirrorless they just seem desperate to get sales by any means possible - mainly to gearheads. I'll be sticking to my gorgeous 85F1.4G for many years and saving the ridiculous £2500 Nikon want for F0.2 faster, a tad sharper (who cares) and lacking anything like the character of thier F lenses.
I agree. They are a one camera company. Don't think they care about any of their other cameras. They screwed up the momentum of the z9, loads of hype around Nikon and excitement. Now it's back to people highlighting the flaws in their cameras. They should have released big firmware updates for other cameras and also should have had development announcements. Sony and canon are crushing with their variety . Af performance on canon and Sony is great across the board. No need to buy a 5k camera to get good af over there. Nikon... I really don't know what they are thinking.
Thank you for brightening my Friday!😀
It doesn’t matter what camera you own. It’s what’s in your minds eye that produces a great photograph.
Thanks joined Nikon owner because of you

I am staying with my 85 1.8 S lens! The larger aperture is not worth the money. I love my 85! Kevin
Just found your channel. Nikon user in the USA. Thank you for content!
33:30 just got a black Zfc myself, gorgeous camera.

Look forward to hearing how you find the 85mm when it arrives, for all the reasons you mentioned! :)
@@graysofwestminster So far my thumbs are limber from the twiddling.
Thanks for the Notebook Becky it arrived in Canada last week

Great stream, wonderful team! Best greetings from Germany!
Pre-ordered the 85 1.2

New Nikon lens 85mm etc informative content.
Added the 85/1.2 to my list.

I’d love to see a comparison between 105 1.4 and 85 1.2 😊
Krolop & Gerst / RUclips / min 11:12 / 105 1.4 vs 85 1.2 😊
The 28 f1.4 is a helluva lens. Jonesing for one right now.

You two should be doing this full-time! 'Photo Kon-versations' or 'Pro and Kon' or something.. 😊👍

There is a 24mm DX on the roadmap.
@@mbravos Hopefully f/2 or better 🤞
A range finder style with the 40mm f/2 would replace my Panasonic gx85!

135 is on the roadmap and I can highly recommend the Z 105 f/2.8 MC although some people might complain that it shows too much detail :)
There's a couple of really good youtube videos with "Professor Hines" doing street photography on his 85mm Zeiss lens. Well worth looking them up.

Test the 26mm f2.8 against the Leica Q2 28mm.
Anytime I see a video entitled "New Nikon Lens Announcements" I want to ignore the word "lens" in hopes that they finally announced the Z8!
and i missed it again.
Guys, I don't think there ever will be a Z8. It sounds like an urban myth or just wishful thinking.
