Considered one of the greatest talents of Brazilian guitar, Yamandú Costa is a world reference in the interpretation of our music, which dominates and recreates every performance, even in his compositions. Who sees on stage realize their incredible involvement, his passion for the instrument and art. His musical creativity freely develop on an absolutely improved technique, exploring all the possibilities of the 7-string guitar, renewing old themes and presenting own compositions glare, always a passionate and infectious performance.

Years ago I was at the sound check for the New York Guitar Festival, and of course all these great guitarists were taking their turn to go on stage, play and get their sound right. At one point I was in the green room while the Assad brothers, surely the best classical guitar duo in the world, were on stage, playing these amazing duets, and their feed was coming over the speaker in the green room where Yamandu Costa was hanging out. He started playing along with them and improvising--not single notes, whole arrangements using all seven strings--with the Assads on the speaker. One by one every other guitarist in the hall (apart from the Assads) filled up the corridor and doorway just to hear him play. Everyone was speechless; he didn't even seem to notice them.

I just learned of Yamandu from comments on a Jerry Garcia site. I'm just blown away and speechless. Garcia would have loved his playing no doubt.

Yamandu is my first exposure to Brazilian music. I really enjoy it. I've been listening to other Brazilian music now too.

@@AkiraUema Concordo com você. Os países hispanoamericanos cultuam a música folclórica. Neste ano de 2020 assisti a vários vídeos com festival de música folclórica em todas as capitais das províncias argentinas. A Argentina tem violonistas maravilhosos. Dois deles já falecidos e de quem sou fã: Abel Fleury e Eduardo Falu.
Um dia eu estava tocando em um boteco em minha cidade então eu vi Yamandu Costa sentado num canto escuro acompanhado de outra pessoa, me observando.
Eu sabia que ele estaria pela cidade para uma apresentação no teatro municipal. Mas não teve jeito, eu não consegui mais tocar direito fiquei muito tímido.
Qualquer um ficaria. Deve ter sido difícil....
impossível não ficar tímido com um monstro desses observando... kkkk

I have never heard a guitarist have such great control over his instrument . Soft melodic and great rhythmic variety, and not to mention the expected pyrotechnics. Loved it.

I responded before hearing the last piece. It was so beautiful to hear the audience come in to sing the last song. Made want to cry with happiness.
The tune is Carinhoso, by the great Choro composer and instrumentalist, Pixinguinha. It's a standard in Brazil, comparable to "Over The Rainbow" here. Very common for Brazlian singers/musicians to perform "duets" with the audience.
And yes, Yamandu e beijado por Deus/ kissed by God, the greatest guitarist on earth, and possibly the world's greatest musican. Virtuosity, soulfulness and changing the vocabulary of the instrument: never let anyone tell you that God's don't still walk the earth.

Realmente faltan palabras para describir lo que se siente escuchar la música de Yamandú, o si realmente se puede describir con palabras, solo puedo decir que si el corazón hablara se lo agradecería muchísimo. Su música es un verdadero viaje por el alma, por momentos parece una verdadera montaña rusa, y sin darme cuenta luego parece que estuviese en los brazos de mi abuela escuchando como me hacía dormir tarareando alguna melodía.
Si, Yamandú haría épica hasta "La Cucaracha".
I've been a huge fan of Yamandu Costa for years now. IMO, for both virtuosity and musicality, he's as genius as Stanley Jordan, Biréli Lagrène and his fellow countryman - the Pelé of the guitar - Bola Sete. He transcends!
After have experienced Yamandu Costa in concert 20/3-2018 in Kristiansand, Norway - vow! Fantastic concert, I dare to say the best I have been to- if you have the chance - don't miss it!! I bought three CD`s after the concert, so I`m going to enjoy this fantastic guitarist many times now. Thank you Yamandu Costa for a great concert!

Yes, apparently the seven-stringed guitar was brought to Brazil by Russian immigrants at the beginning of the 20th century and sometimes the seventh string is crossed diagonally over the others.

esse cara é um fenômeno.... não sei nem o que falar.... a parte teatral do sentimento da performance dele é incomparável.... ele é o top esta no topo e sempre estará... respeito dmais os antecessores, Baden, Rabello, Paco, etc, mas Yamandu, superou tudo e esta numa sala diferenciada....claro, levando em consideração que são sim os antecessores que proporcionou essa leva de músicos violonistas instrumentais pelo mundo.... mas a musica se renova, e alunos vem ultrapassando mestres desde de sempre... yamandu é a prova disso...... o melhor de todos os tempos

Oggi ho scoperto un artista eccezionale: chi compone la sua propria musica e la esegue con quella libertá, divertendosi, é geniale. Rimane per me un vero mistero il fatto che no sono pochi i chitarristi popolari che, quando amplificano il proprio strumento, tirano fuori un pessimo suono, simile ad una pessima chitarra elettrica, che si allontana dal bel suono di una chitarra d'autore. In ogni caso, notevole! e bello da ascoltare!

The fact that some people are comparing other music style like guitar in metal and rock with guitar in classical, is completely wrong. You don't do this if you truly love and understand music. Music is not something to be comapared, everyone has different style and yes this guy is genius, but you can't compare just any other guitar god to him. It's literally wrong

Nossa é verdade, o que eu conhecia do yamandu era musicas tecnicamente impressionantes mas pouco agradáveis, esse show realmente foi diferente
Você falou tudo! Eu sempre tinha um pé atraz com o Yamandú, pois ele fazia firulas exageradas que poluiam demais as suas apresentações. De nada adianta muita técnica e velocidade com uma melodia pobre e cheia de erros. Já o falecido Rafael Rabello prezava pela qualidade e perfeição. Mas isso está mudando e essa apresentação é uma prova disso...

O que mais me alegra é ler todos esses comentários em quatro idiomas e ver o quanto Yamandu é admirado. Que Deus o abençoe sempre. Nós só temos que agradecer por passar algumas horas esquecidos das tristezas que varrem o mundo, tendo os ouvidos físicos e os ouvidos da alma presos nas cordas mágicas de sua guitarra, ou seja, o nosso violão.
Pois é como eu gostaria que houvesse tradução, pra poder entender..fico triste por não entender nada!

Fiz um curso por correspondência. Inglês e Francês aprendi na escola. Tem um jeito de você entender que é usando o tradutor. Eu não uso porque o tradutor traduz muita coisa errada. Assim não me comunico com os orientais, alemães e o pessoal do oriente médio... Rs... Bom fim de semana! Abraços.

@@joseivancoelho8407 Oi, José. Já tentou esses cursinhos da Internet? Dá pra gente aprender muita coisa. Eu até tentei aprender aquele idioma cheio de traços do oriente médio, mas depois eu desisti. Mas dá pra aprender um pouquinho sim dessas línguas que têm muita coisa em comum com o Português como o espanhol, o francês e até o inglês. Eu interajo com as pessoas mas sempre com o dicionário online aberto... ;-) Abração pra você.
