I’ve come back to your tutorial because I think yours is the very best… no distracting music, good camera work, very clear instructions.. the very best tutorial.
I just want to say thank you for your great tutorials. I consider them to be the best on RUclips. In fact, I would say, even compared to what I learnt at High School. I have been sewing different items for some years but II always had a problem with getting them to look properly finished. So I spent several years watching sewing tutorials on RUclips and never quite found one that kept me from losing my way or getting distracted until I found your tutorials. I actually started from your Beginners Sewing tutorials because i knew I needed to finetune what I knew already and I am soooo glad I did. My confidence and skills have grown ever since. So thank you thank you thank you for such well presented, incredibly informative tutorials.
Thank you so much! My invisible zippers always looked poorly finished and your tutorial has absolutely transformed my garments. I have so much more confidence now when I tackle anything with an invisible zipper.
I've just paid for sewing lessons, and was so confused about how to join a facing to an invisible zip. This tutorial is so easy to understand, and I feel so much more confident, Great teacher!
I've watched two of your invisible zipper tutorials and your instructions are the best. You are a wonderful teacher! My first try is looking very professional. Thank you!
Superb tutorial as usual. I so appreciate all the tricks you are giving out and I have to mention how detail everything always is in all of your videos, so good for self taught sewist like me. Big big thank you.
I just need to say thank you. I was struggling trying to understand some directions on a pattern and this totally cleared it up for me! Thank you thank you thank you
Another excellent tutorial with the techniques very clearly explained. This is such a useful aid for getting a professional finish on a small area that, if not done correctly, can spoil the whole look of the garment. Thank you Aneka.
Thank you so much. Your tutorial was recommended to me for my first dress invisible zip with facing. It has turned out better than I could have imagined. 😊 Really appreciate the time you have taken to develope and create this tutorial.
Thanks so much Aneka!! Your tutorials are absolutely wonderful -- very clear, concise, and thorough. You are a life saver!! Keep on doing what you're doing.
Just wanted to say thank you again for another excellent, well explained tutorial, I am so happy that I found your RUclips Channel. I am just about to sew my first facing on with your instructions here which were excellent. I am hoping to achieve the same professional finish as yourself so wish me luck ✂️
Excellent tutorial, very well explained. I find my zip always gapes at the back neck is there a way of stopping this or a tutorial that would help? Thank you again for a brilliant tutorial.
Hi Wendy, is the zip too far away from the top of the garment? Is that what you mean by gaping? I would only leave 1/8" (3mm) between the edge of the garment and the seam allowance that you will sew across the top of the garment. I think I cover this in the tutorial? x
@@MadetoSew Hi thanks so much for your reply. No the zip sticks out away from my back neck. I think I may need to reduce the width of my garment at the upper back but not too sure how to achieve this. Thanks again your tutorials are brilliant.
@@wendynicholss6886 Ok, I understand. Firstly did you stabilise the neck of the garment with stay tape or stay stitch first? Otherwise this can stretch? If so, then do you have a curve to the back of your neck? You may need a rounded back adjustment? I have plans for a video on this. x Thank you x
@@MadetoSew thank you again for your reply no I don't have a rounded back. I think I have a narrow back so there is too much fabric between my shoulder blades . I have the same problem on the front there is always too much fabric. I will watch out for your videos though. Thank you again.
@@wendynicholss6886 Hi Wendy, that makes sense, what patterns are you using? I often find the big pattern companies are large in this area, and have to down size for the shoulder, neck area. What size are you making? Thank you. Aneka
Usually you want the top teeth of the zipper to a tiny bit lower than the seam allowance, by about 2mm (1/8") to give room. So measure your seam allowance and then a bit extra. Aneka
Another of your fantastic tutorials. Is the garment you have on the one you made doing the interlining video. It looks beautiful and comfy. And the splash of color is great. Very nice.
Hi Tracy, thank you so much and so pleased I could help. Yes I am wearing the Copen pattern, the dress I made in the interlining video. Thank you so much. Aneka x
Hi Jana, yes you can complete the same technique with a full lining. Or you could have a facing and then lining (the lining would attach to the bottom of the facing). Thank you Aneka
Congratulations on your videos. I appreciate your explanations-the details are great. Thank you. I was wondering whether you always pre wash the fabric and if so how? Hand wash? Thank you
Hi there, thank you very much for your kind words. Yes I could suggest that you pre-wash your fabric to prevent any shrinkage later on. I would recommend that you pre-wash the fabric how to plan to wash it in the future. If the fabric is hand-wash only then hand wash the fabric. If it is machine washable then machine wash / tumble dry as well if you plan to do this in the future. I hope this helps? Aneka

I've been wondering how to get a really neat finish at the top of an invisible zip for ages! I wonder if you would mind doing another the same but using a bias tape instead of a facing? Would it be the same?
Hey! Could I use this technique to insert a invisible zip in a dress with a neckband/collar? The neckband is two pieces of fabric, not one that is folded over. I would first attach the outer piece, insert the zipper, and than handle the collar piece that will sit against my skin as the facing in your video. Would that work?

Dear Annika, your tutorials are the best.. i want to lowe the neck line of my dress with a center back invisible zipper and a facing. İ already attached the zipper. I fear that when i lower the neckline, the invisible zipper will be folded at a position below the zipper stopper and will create a bulk. Is there a way to remove the teeth from the top or any other recommendations?

Personally for a professional finish I would unpick the zipper, lower the neckline and reintroduce the zipper. I appreciate this is time and effort but you will be pleased to have a professional look after you have done it. I hope that helps?
Hi Annika, i was lazy, so i didn't unpick the zipper and tried my best by carefully cutting the plastic stopper and some teeth. This reduced the bulk but it sure doesn't look professional. Many thanks for the reply. Lesson learned: don't be lazy :)
quick question. i did all the steps but my facing was bagging on top of the back of the zipper, wanting to match the same crease from the front once i pressed the fabric. do you cut your facings shorter than the whole length of the neck. because that's the only way that it works for me so that my facings don't get caught on the zipper. what am i doing wrong?
Hi Cintya, so sorry you are having a problem. Where was your facing bagging? At the centre back over the zip? Or at the top neckline edge? Please email me pictures if you can (Info@madetosew.com) and I will try and help. Generally I will cut my facing the same size as the neckline, it is rare that I would 'favour' my facing and make it smaller by a few mm. Aneka x
