I think there’s some confusion with my title of this cover. I have never claimed to know this song’s origin and I have never said whether the song was Celtic, English, etc. However, I covered the song in the style of the group Celtic Woman. I hope this makes sense!
You shouldn't have had to respond to this !. I have recently had a bad time this it made me feel better and I was unsure if you were going to deliver the song from my town (Scarborough). You delivered it when I heard this version ago a few months ago and you personally delivered it and I am proud. Thank you for your rendition and keep on doing what you are doing !. You have a sub from me !. Please visit our amazing historical town sometime soon !
I have listend to this song for over 40 years` I don`t like to here other covers from singers thinking its a nicer verssion with such a classic song, But that was beautiful to listen to, not saying I prefer than the orignal but you did it proud.
Julia, to be honest, it doesn't really matter to me what you said or whether you did say anything about this song's origin or not. You voice is just absolutely out of this world. It's simply mesmerising. And that's what counts. Keep it up. And thanks very much for uploading and sharing your musical gift.
Among all the singers who sang the song i like very much the voice of ms.Julia Arredondo and her singing Singing style. Only three among all and of course Ms. SARAH BRIGHTMAN AND ONE YOUNG CHINESE WHOSE NAME WAS WRITTEN IN CHINESE CHARACTER.
It is clearly an English folk-song as Scarborough is in north Yorkshire which i can assure you seeing im from Harrogate The actual fair at Scarborough was an annual trading fair which lasted for 45 days starting on August 15. It was granted a charter in 1253, and ran until 1788 when competition from other fairs made it untenable. Traditionally, the herbs in the song have the following associations: parsley - festivity sage - wisdom & immortality rosemary - remembrance thyme - courage & strength The name can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when the northern English city of Scarborough was an important meeting place for merchants from all over England. A major 45-day trade show, from 1,253 to 1,788, called Scarborough Fair, The song was probably written in the 16th or 17th century. It is likely that it came from the Scottish folk ballad The Elfin Knight. After being transferred from city to city, it changed many times. Today it has 11 elements. The song is about a former couple of lovers who now set unsurpassed tasks between them to become a couple again. what counts is their effort. And that it can also be interpreted as an invitation to a man in his previous love, who asks him to take on seemingly impossible tasks, to try again for him or her. However, an unwanted pregnancy is possible. The refrain "Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme" initially does not make sense to a listener today, but has symbolic significance and can be considered as a request or prevention of an abortion for then. It is therefore also possible that as a Cambrian "Cymru" ( Wales ) theme the future child. The fact that they are ex-lovers also shows that the two are not married and makes the problem of the child between them clear. It also becomes clear that someone communicates in an encrypted way, after realizing the relationship and its consequences was considered a sin before the wedding, and it was a major scandal for that time. in-Teesdale, County Durham, England, sang "Scarborough Fair" to Ewan MacColl in 1947 Martin Carthy learned the song from MacColl and included it on his self-titled debut album in 1965. He taught the song to Paul Simon the same year and Simon & Garfunkel released his own version, which was extremely successful. Prior to that, Bob Dylan used Martin Carthy's version as the basis for his song "Girl from the North Country" from The Freewheelin's second album, Bob Dylan (1963).
One of the most original performance of " Scarborough Fair Canticle ". The voice, as well as the singer´s feeling, emerge deeply from the profound corner of the soul. As a result, the song has melted into an authentic singing. Go ahead and pick it up .

But my very own staffordshire terrier will only go to sleep with your version playing on repeat. Keep up the good work. Its a very old traditional English song, but iit was made into a hit by Simon and Garfunkle, which was an honour to the generations who had known the song before....its timeless now. I have personal connection in my childhood to the part of the world the song refers to. So it haunts me especially strong.
I have heard so many versions of this song all slightly different. In one the last verse said... And when you are done and finished your work... The bring to me that cabaret shirt and truly be a true love of mine. It dawned on me that the only thing the shirt could be was a death shroud, and the lovers were reunited in the hereafter. Have you heard this version, but if not what are the actual word to the song? And is there another title for this beautifully haunting melody? Thanks Sandra
