Still loving Morphine in the year 2024
No other band sounds like Morphine. They were and remain one of a kind.
Saw them live back in the mighty 90's & it was Epic
I hear a lot of Morphine in Viagra Boys.
YES
My heart still breaks. what a huge loss. RIP Mark. My favorite band of all time
Absolutely the most underrated band of the 90s. What an absolutely unique, sexy, cool and elegant style of music. Unique in every way. RIP legends!
They where rated pretty high until vocalist died
1995 - back in the day when Morphine were regularly playing the scene in Boston.
and coming often to Belgium where we could go see so many great Us alternative scene bands such as them , Soul Coughin , Sonic Youth , Mudhoney , and so many more
2 saxophones and 2 bass strings between 2 people, it's strange no one else figured out this perfect balance.
The glorious soundtrack of my senior year... I used to drive around listening to these guys feeling so ethereal and cool.
Cheers to that.
That's such a cool thing to say.
This is amazing! I still listen to Morphine regularly. They were so unique, a sound and feel that just can’t be touched.
Miss you guys.... Mark you are sorely missed... honored to have know you guys and shared the stage with you ..
I had been given “Cure” by a friend and had a hard time getting into it. Then he insisted I go see them here in Nashville at 328. Dana played a bass sax on a stand that stood on the floor along with the bari and alto sax! All three at once. I was a garden variety Deadhead. I’d never seen so much black leather in one club in my life! It was one of the most memorable shows of my entire life!!! Next week Mark was dead.
I had tickets to see them at a small music festival but he passed away 9 days before. The remaining members and friends of the band preformed in his place. Wish I could have seen them with Mark.
Cool, man. Seriously, I miss Morphine, I miss 328 Performance Hall & I miss the 90s.
Saw some great shows there back in the day. Thank you for reminding me of a good thing I hadn't thought about in a while.
lucky you!
Dana is a ridiculously talented saxophonist
Jesus! They were so freakin' good!!!
BEST BAND IN HISTORY. RIP MARK SANDMAN AND BILLY CONWAY
Billy passed away too???
Cancer... damn.
So sad that two of this legendary band aren't with us anymore.
Damn, that’s sad. This is legendary music. It’s perfect.
The most underrated band of the 90s
I would say Morphine and Madrugada - both such incredible and unknown gems.
They were quite big over here in Belgium, for what it's worth 🤷♂️😊
Understated. Add from the start of any music since electric guitars caveman drummers and wind instruments since electric, wood, pre brass + post brass inventions
@@ContreRiposte I say not really to the recognition status of the level of talent and deserved world wide mass exposure
Also red house painters and Mercury rev were pretty underrated at that time
In 19 years of music listening, morphine is the favorite combination of sax and rock
What a groove!
Was so lucky to catch these guys 4 or 5 times back in the day. Such a great show. My girl and I would never miss it. Nothing like 500 people just jamming and dancing and raising Cain. They were SO GOOD.
can't agree more with that unique trio . Soul Coughing was also in a vein of their own
this particular ensemble intrigued me, growing up in the 90s watching MTV relays in Indonesia, I never heard of Morphine, thank God for the internet, the music is weird but really good, I'm officially a fan
Another band that should have been huge. RIP Mark Sandman.
Wonderfull, should be available on vinyl.
One of my all-time favorite bands. Sadly only Dana left.
I have never met anyone who knows this band...these guys are so amazing and original
These guys were brilliant.
Treat Her Right was another fantastic project. It was an incredibly creative time in the clubs around Boston. It felt like the best material was musicians simply creating without much thought about how it would go over, and audiences felt like they were in on it.
Que banda! Saludos desde Argentina. Viva Morphine ❤
3 July 24: Mark Sandman departed this mortal coil directly from the stage 25 years ago while playing a gig In Palestrina, Italy. RIP Mark.
Thanks for the upload!
Grateful ..the sound quality is good as it is. This is...Thanks.
I remember these guys catching my attention as a kid.. then as a young adult discovered Spanking the Monkey..
But honestly it wasn’t until Mark Lanegans book that I went back through their catalog and listened.
Genius. And so different then and now..
Thanks for this!!! 🤘😎
One of the most influential and creative bands of the 20th century. yet dark, vibrant and so F,,,, RocknRolling. Love Them! RIP dude
Unique and just bad ass!
Thank you for this
sax, drugs and rock n´roll
Bassist plays a two string bass, sax player can double sax. Could there be another Morphine? Maybe. Will there be? Unlikely. Morphine were special.
Soul Coughin were also very unique back in the 90's ....check them out
Unique, underrated and one of my all time favorites
Me encanta el sonido de esta banda. Los conocí hace unos años ! Poco conocida y difundida en Argentina. Gracias !
I used to play alto sax and I have no idea how I would get a decent embouchure with two instruments like that. I wouldn't have thought it possible.
Very unique and creative. ❤
Just discovered this I’m a fan now❤
Ахереть Морфин, очень круто, вокал, бас и сакс шикарны, по сейчас в плеере
I read a review of their second album album "Cure For Pain" on my favorite rock magazine 31 one years ago, here in Italy, and i bought it immediatly the cd cause i was very intrigued...well i've always thought i've made a great decision! They are unforgettable...
Honey white damn love it miss it!! No mas
Um.. I've been listening to these guys for the better half of 25 years. It just dawned on me. Do they NOT have a guitarist? Is it really just bass, drums, vocals and horns? Mind blown!
no guitarist , 2 string bass , 2 saxophones + One drum kit !!!!
JUST WOW@@BlueHopi144
oh yes , those guys created some unique musical mojo that never existed before & some of us saw them live when the singer was still alive . We were stunned @@thegreatinterpreter8382
Mark would occasionally play his Tri-tar. Two guitar strings and one bass string. You will have to look that up!
Miss and Love this band. in my 20's I believe I saw them a few times in Providence, pretty hammered back then
Music made by hand - it's human not machine like almost everything else out there.
Гурт, в якому основні музичні партії належать саксофоністу та барабанщику, а басист-вокаліст зі своїм голосом є прикрасою музичних творів.
унікальний гурт)
Jeezuswept - I never realised he played TWO saxophones at the same time, I thought it was an effect! This band is ssssssssex.
Blessed be the tonic if saxophone and bass
*of
Soooo Coooool !!!
Such an aptly named band.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
My fav
Awesome
Name a cooler cat than Sandman. You cant.
He is definitely Loy Reed esque
JJ Cale
Mark Sandman and Layne Staley from AIC were two of the coolest frontmen of the 90s
1.7 k likes only.this is incredible(
Mast be millions !
This music is great
beautiful, magnifique, bello, lindo...
They were unique
thats the dayyyyyyyyyy, ill throw my drugs away
Mark was the last Boston rock star
WOW !!
En Medellin colombia se escucha morphinee
yesssss!!!!
Bari sax rules, baby!
Fuck they were so good.
oh baby
❤
Double saxing (bari and tenor), Dana’s got a shorter range, pitched a 5th apart (if he sticks with identical fingering. But there’s no reason I can think of to do that.
Anybody knows how I can find the triangle solo? It was on a live session on youtube somewhere but I can't find it anymore..
Чем то они напомнили мне группу российскую "Странные игры" из 80 х
That guy....
The dual sax had me crying laughing for some reason😭👌
Check out Roland Kirk and keep in mind he's blind.
@@HansJazz will do
@@HansJazz how.. did he pull off THREE sax’s!?
@@insanepykl3603Amazing isn't it? And he has also all those little flutes and things hanging around his neck. He's one of my favorite sax players.
@@HansJazz what was the bell like thing he was messing with?
It sounded so cool
Hi Whats the brand of the pickups and strings that Mark was using? Thanks
Mark Sandman sembrava sempre triste, non sorrideva quasi mai.
I think he was just laid back
Penso sia dovuto al fatto che fosse molto introspettivo, non togliendo quel pizzico di follia tipica del genio.
Kudos to Dana for his soundtrack for Assy McGee on Adult Swim.
Did someone recorded TV too have such a footage?
Morrisey meets Kenny g meets Tom waits. Idunno
I saw Morphine several times in the late 90's. I'm really surprised to see the band standing together and Mark being comparable in height to the other guys-I could have sworn that he was seven feet tall in real life. Weird.
MTV u were cool
Phenomenal performance, RIP Mark and Billy.
Por dios basta!!!
It’s like primus, viagra boys, ska and grunge all mixed up
What the sax?
Two baritone saxophone’s
Ones a bari ones a tenor
If I am guilty I will do my time
It was July 16th, 1989
Too bad they've got marks mike so quiet. His deep tone is kinda lost here. All the instruments are kickin
That's the way that microphone is. It is a Calrad 400C crystal mike (sold under numerous aliases), made in Japan circa 1960. I think Mark used this when he wanted a "lo-fi" sound, meaning not much bass or treble, mostly mids. Also known as the "Big Walter Microphone" as you can see him playing amped harmonica with it while holding a lit cigarette in "The Blues Brother". I paid $11.67 total cost for mine (says Argonne M131, beat up but working great), will soon upload video of me playing harmonica through it, unusual tone.
Buncha try-hards. LOL. Life would be much bloody diminished if Morphine's music had not be written and recorded. There's a stamp of authority on their tunes, and a sincerity of intention to make stunning humane music. Sandman musicologist, Dana the wizard of reeds and their drummers always made it pulse with LIFE. Other bands sound banal. If you play, then the interview is a buzz.
Wtf
youtube ad tech is garbage
You know I'd like to hear a little less Matt...
Don't get me wrong I've always liked this band from the beginning but a lot of there songs sound exactly the same.A good sound but ..
His saxophone technique is all wrong.
why does it sound so good
No, it's not. 😂
who fuckin cares, it works for his music
Who fucking asked? :D
thats not your problem at all ....but could u play it to sound like that ?
Looked like an interesting line up but of course it ended up being the same old regurgitating blues-wank, not an ounce of uniqueness in their sound despite the gimmicks
спасибо, родные!
Охуєнна назва гурту!!! - це стиль!
