One of the most respectable lyricist duo of all time! You'll be surprised to find out their names are written under those countless popular songs. They really put nice words into music that made composer so envy of them. I love them all for the most part. Thanks for all those songs. :-)
Since the 1970's when I first learned about the Bergmans, I have been under the impression that they were music composers and arrangers in addition to being lyricists. Today, nearly fifty years later, I learn that they are lyricists who wrote words for the music of Michel Legrand, Johnny Mandel, Marvin Hamlisch, and all the other great contemporary composers and arrangers. I love their work, but somehow I feel relieved, knowing that the talent associated with all this great music is distributed among many composers.
Certainly Brooklyn and other boroughs of NYC produced a huge number of the best.......the best anywhere........actually...........of beautiful music and musical performances.
True masters. there is so much to learn from them even from this short conversation. They're the true embodiment of the saying that genius minds think alike.
It is a sad loss to music history that Alan & Marilyn Bergman have not written their autobiography. I wish some writer would take up the project. There must be a fascinating story to tell for each song
What B & B lyrics take you back to a place & will forever do so ? Mine is Streisand’s version of “What are you doing the rest of your life”, 1969 , alone at 17 living in a grotty room in the East End of London after my first love had dumped me.
