- We've taken the first step to determine the absolute WORST board game of all time, and we've done so with your help! This Round 1 Update showcases all 32 games that have moved on to the Second Round, while also looking at the shocking losses that surprised us along the way.
The bracket scores have been updated, so refresh those bracket tabs to see how well you are doing so far! For those that missed out on the bracket period, head to the community tab to vote on the games you want to see move on to the next round! You will play a direct part in determining who is the worst, so vote for your least favorites now!

"The Campaign for North Africa: 1940-43 vs. Doggie Doo" is a string of words I never expected to hear.
The right half of my bracket is decimated. 10/16 of my picks on that side were wrong. Most importantly, how could y'all do tic tac toe like this?

While War and Candy Land are both non-games in the fact there’s 0 chance or player choice… at least War just needs deck of cards. A deck of cards you already use for better games.
Candyland is not a game. Candyland decides who won as soon as turn order is set. All the peripherals, all the colors, it’s all meaningless tat.
Candyland doesnt even belong on this chart. It’s just not a game. It’s a time vampire.

Chance does not make a game. In fact, Candyland and War are both 100% chance games. It's just the chance is decided and set at the start. Would Candyland be any more of a game if you shuffled the deck every time someone drew a card?
Player choice is necessary, but not sufficient to make a game. Would Candyland be any more of a game if you cut the deck and made two piles and players choose one of the piles to draw from each turn?
Would Candland be any more of a game if you used dice every turn to decide how far someone advances?
I say no. I consequently must contend that Snakes and Ladders is also not a game. If the players make no meaningful, at least semi-informed, strategic decisions (actual decisions), then it's just Candyland wearing a skinsuit.
I would also contend that Sorry! is very arguably a non-game, because the only decision a player makes is how to use a Sorry! card when said card is drawn, but is that really a decision? You use it on the player with the most pawns in his safe zone; if all opponents have the same number of pawns in the safe zone, use it on the one with a pawn closest to the safe zone. Seems like an illusion of choice to me.
Oral fixation games are a great bet, people hate putting weird things in their mouths and people hate going to the dentist
Beanboozled and speak out are going places
beanboozled is a silly party game but because you can really only do it a limited amount of times before all the beans are gone is a huge negative that'll bring it forward

I think W.W.B is the only game with a chance of beating Adultery.
Based on the comments displayed at 7:40, we can conclude that What Do You Meme’s awfulness is unaffected by whether mom is playing it.

I will understand the Candyland victory if it happens but holy heck, the accomplishment of making a worse version of Uno is pretty unfortunate, bought Dos at a Five Below for the heck of it and played one round with my brother before we were like "wait no, the game design is kinda weird here" and returned it. ;u;

I was watching that original selection show you guys did and Ms. Monopoly is the definition of "Trying to hard to make up for past mistakes." What Shall I Be is the definition of said past mistakes. These are two concepts that are bad for the exact opposite reasons. It's appropriate that they both got a win.
Of the 100+ games my kid and I have run in our tournament for the best game we own Sorry was in last place with 8/20 (not counting DQed games that largely got removed from our library). Not surprised to see it out of the tourney in round one. It is a game that is at least playable. There were a few we owned that were not and many in this tourney that are not. Hell Tick Tack Toe and Candyland not even enough of a game for us to consider for our tourney. Not surprised to see Candyland moving on. Shocked that TTT lost round one.
Yeah, Trouble is no masterclass in game design, but I've had fun playing it with my family as a kid. There's some degree of strategy, and the poppee is just dang fun. Nowhere near the level of most what's in the tournaments

@@yannickgrignon2473 Agreed. They are low tier games but not so low that they would go past round 1. Def way worse games out there aka the ones that are so bad that looking at the rulebook DQs the game and we never play it and instasell it.

I genuinely think that public assistance can win. The working man’s burdens cards, the subject, and it’s gameplay all combine into a tasteless experience.
I think if there’s one thing that could take a game far, it’s being not just offensively bad, but offensive in general. Ms. Monopoly is my pick to go the distance.
Ouch, yeah, that hurts my bracket, lol. I got about a third of it wrong, but at least none of the games I have advancing to the Quarter finals have been eliminated yet. Still reeling from Pug You, Global Survival, AND Life being eliminated, lol.
Beanboozled vs Capital Punishment is such a chaotic match up.
Also, I predict CoNA at, the very least, going very far due to its sheer complexity/gargantuan length.
I hope Makin’ Bakin beats Adultery just for the comedy potential of two bacon themed board games going at it
If Beanboozled doesn't beat Capital Punishment after it beat Global Survival I will have serious questions. Global Survival is game that will often take months to comple due to the fact that you start out with 200 billion dollars in the year 1992. As a result it is next to impossible to go backrupt in that game. It also is basically a more mechanically simple version of Monopoly meaning that unlike a game like C.N.A. there is not anything interesting to even do in the game. I am not saying that there were not legitimate reasons for people to have voted for Beanboozled, but if it loses the next round after beating an opponent like Global survival than it would make no sense.

I really have to wonder how some of these games were even put in this competition. Trivial Pursuit and the Mad Magazine Game are great games.
Beyond that, Candyland and Chutes and Ladders are children's games and for who they are aimed at, they are actually well designed.

Long comment about a theoretical losers bracket, mostly for sake of all the games having a placement in the final ranking.
*The Actual Concept*
A Losers Bracket could be a nice addition to this, because it would be nice to get to see a proper ranking of all the games with it, but it would probably be a bit of a hassle at this point in, so I understand if you don't add it.
If you do make the loser's bracket though, games should be sorted/grouped' by rounds, and will progress from below upwards towards the Main Bracket instead of inwards towards the center from the corners.'' (Remember this for later) For who fights who each round, the losers of the main round go against the winners of the previous losers round''', repeating until one game reaches the end. When one game becomes the champion of the loser's bracket, and one game becomes the champion of the main bracket, the ultimate showdown (of ultimate destiny) for the title of worst board game will happen over 2 days (on the weekend preferably, which means more people with more spare time then, which means more hype, which means more hype, which means more people, becoming a cycle of more and more hype) of voting; The winner being recognized as, "The Worst Board Game (of The 2024 Season)", and returning if you ever do another.
For the website and voting changes; The website will let you view the losers bracket (however that comes to be), and you can predict who will win the next losers round (this will be updated at the same time as the video updates, and if your bracket was made before this site change, you will not have to make the whole bracket again again, only the losers matches; You will also be able to vote who will win the next loser round in the community tab like normal. If any dead ends are found, they will happen after all of the main round and just use a second site.''''

' You can name the 4 loser groups and loser rounds whatever you want, but I have some ideas for you; Losers Round (LR) 1 is "The Least Bad", Quarter Finals/LR2 is "Not Good, Not Bad, Just Eh", Semi Finals/LR3 is "Still Worth Playing Once or Twice", and Finals/LR4 is "A Bit Bad", and the Losers Bracket winner is "Not Not Bad", but these are only ideas give them whatever name(s) you want!

I love Bunco just for the name, but it probably sucks as a board game though (it did get in after all), and seeing my precious Bunco out first was a real bummer; That is (mostly) the truth behind this request, if you were wondering; This could also let some crazy comebacks happen and other shenanigans, and just getting to see how they all did when this ends will be pretty cool too.

Well, one round in and I'm already at rank 158, so I guess there's not much point in keeping up with this anymore. I mean, so far I haven't lost THAT many predictions, but 9 errors out of 32 is still a bad rate for something like this, and both Pug You and Gay Monopoly are going to cost me another 2 errors later, and assuming that the rest of my bracket is accurate seems absolutely bonkers at best. Oh, and I had both Fat Chance and Pumpkin King moving on, so no faith in that entire half of the bracket anyway.
I squandered my chance to vote in the first round because I thought I would be biased towards my own bracket, but I will not make that mistake again.
Global Survival is the most surprising round 1 exit imo. Bean Boozled isn't much of a game, but it does clearly provide entertainment value judging by its popularity alone. Global Survival, on the other hand, just seems incredibly boring from what I can gather. I think it should have won.
Pug You and Global Survival were both in my Final Four. So much for my bracket.
At least my projected winner (W.W.B.) still has a chance of taking it all. But I'm starting to doubt his ability to make it to the finals. 33% of people still picked Quelf, even though you can actually WIN that game. If people treat W.W.B. as a game you can quit at any time, then it won't stand a chance against Adultery or Ms. Monopoly in the Final Four. Not to mention, if "What do you Meme" won by 80-20, then he's got a lot of meme haters to face in this round.

But Candyland is literally not a game. There is nothing you can do as a player to change the outcome. It is entirely deterministic, the winner is decided as soon as the deck is shuffled and turn order is established. *It is literally not a game.*
New rules have you draw 2 cards and chose one so there is a tiny bit of choice now.

I think the hate for The Game of Life is a bit too recent for it to have gone far. You can definitely see the socioeconomic reasons why people would find the game distasteful, but the mechanics and ideals DO work in teaching kids the wild and whacky world of living in aa society.

All the games were described in the selection show, but only a choice number of games got bios. I couldn't make one for all 64 games in that time period. I'll probably complete the bios for games that make the Sweet 16 and don't have one yet.
The BGG link is included on polls for games without bios, and there is a Google Doc with all of the games' information in the description!

why is "Sorry" on this list, it's a classic fun game for laughs made mainly for kids, it's sort of unfair to even put it on a list like this. Putting Sorry on that list makes you seem a bit elitist when it comes to these games. What about similar games like Parcheesi and Trouble which are essentially the same sort of game but with slightly different set up. I'd even go as far as saying Sorry is a more fun version of either Parcheesi OR Trouble.

War as a game played with a normal deck of cards of doesn't belong but a purposely made product sold as "War" with the same rules has a place in the bracket. Same with e.g. tic tak toe or rock paper scissors.
